So Peggy, how did that cleaning go? Riley was asleep by 10:30... so was the dog. Unlike Riley, the dog was awake an unhappy by quarter to midnight. Several illegal fireworks going off around the neighborhood, and she let me know she was NOT pleased about it. How dare they disturb her beauty sleep?! :rotfl2:

Jake had a silly string fight (another NYE tradition) with several friends, and being the good kids they are, they cleaned it all up afterwards. Today a friend of mine had a NY open house (it is also her bday, but she keeps that under wraps). Middle son was feeling better today, and we had fun at the party.

On other notes... oldest son is a BIG Anthony Horowitz fan (currently, as I type, he is telling me about a book I do NOT understand- Raven's Gate). From what he says... it's pretty freaky- sorcery - not the Harry Potter kind). I bought it for him since he's read the Alex Rider series of books by the same author, based upon a librarian recommendation. I don't know WHAT I was thinking! It would give me nightmares, but not him.

BTW...I've now had my first encounter with a RUDE poster on the DL thread. Someone questioned why DL was more expensive than WDW, and I posted that for us it was the opposite. Then some new guy comes on and posts how all of my info. in inaccurate and to look elsewhere for valid information. I made one error, and admitted that part, but the rest was based on our trips and my experiences. I sure am glad that that type of post is rare on these threads. The goodwill here is one of the reasons I participate here and not on other forums. Thanks everyone!:cheer2:

Happy New Year All!

Wendy, sorry to hear about the rude poster....I've dealt with a couple of those too. Mistakes happen...people just need to get over it.

It was a pretty quiet New Years here. Heather got sick around Thanksgiving...then Jeff....then Haleigh....and finally me last week. Today is my first day actually off the couch and venturing out...and where to...WORK. Yuck! We were up to ring in 2007 but it was a very quiet "ring".

Now that the holidays are through I'm beginning to look forward to our 2007 trip....only 331 days until we leave....YES, MY OCPD HAS BEGUN - No argument from me on that point.

Curious about some other vacation ideas for 2008 for just him and I. As much as I hate to ask it here on the DIS...any suggestions from anyone? I know there are DISers who've traveled outside Disney....

Hope everyone is well! We'll check in soon!

In or outside the U.S.? Time of year? For how long?

We usually do fall due to work schedules and because my vacation time renews every Oct 18th. Jeff starts to get really busy late March/early April so I guess we could say Nov - Mar is our best time to escape. We could do up to 2 weeks total time off or we could do multiple trips if you had any ideas of some smaller ones. Where??? We've only done the two Disney cruises...we're vacation virgins.....

. . . I guess we could say Nov - Mar is our best time to escape. . .
Have you considered going to Europe? We go during these months because the airfare and hotels cost less, and most importantly there are fewer crowds.

I'm open to about anything. Now that I've gotten him on airplanes for two years straight I think I might be able to approach the subject of actually flying OVER water rather than just floating on it.....

Do you have a favorite European destination?

. . . Do you have a favorite European destination?
Yes, I'll get to that.

But first, unless you have a strong desire to visit a certain destination (such as looking up relatives), and unless you speak a foreign language, I recommend London for a first-time trip to Europe. If you have time, you could add a sidetrip to Edinburgh, Scotland, or Dublin, Ireland.

London is rich with history, sights, culture, museums, and theatre. It's a favorite of ours, and we are returning later this year (we were last there in 2005). I recommend it for first timers for one main reason -- they speak english (well, maybe not American english, but close enough). You can read the signs, menus, and understand the public announcements at the airport and subway stations ("Mind the Gap"). A vacation in London is easy to do -- book flights and an hotel, then pick sights to visit the way you would pick shore excursions.

As for my favorite European destination, that would be Paris. But I would not recommend it for a first time trip, unless you speak some French.

Well Happy New Year. It has been an interesting few weeks and I could use another cruise.

We closed on the new house, have made some head way on unpacking (a lot more to go), we have not gotten anything hung on the walls and I do not see that happening for a few more weeks. We have one storage unit almost empty. We have another one to go. I think we need to organize the garage and set up racks so we can start bringing some tools and yard stuff over. We also need shelving up for the surplus of cleaning supplies, splenda and baking supplies. When you combine 3 houses into one there is a LOT of extra. We will not need to buy cleaning supplies or zip locks for a very ong time. YEAH!

In the midst of all of this I fell backwards over a box and busted my tail and my son was sitting at a red light and was rear ended. Needles to say it has been painfully interesting around here.:rotfl2: I have a whole new perspective for doughnut. I has not altered my waistline.:lmao:

On a brighter note. I agree with Woody. England would be a good first international vacation. Just be careful crossing the street and driving. I nearly bit the dust on several occassions.:rotfl2:

I hope this finds everyone healthy and happy and may 2007 be better then 2006 for us all.

See...I knew you guys would have answers for me.....you are all the best...

Dee, sorry to hear that your year isn't starting off so well....we'll hopefully hear from you soon that things are looking up....

:grouphug: Big hugs Dee to you and your son. Since you already got the bad stuff out of the way, the rest of the year should be very smooth;) . I hear ya about the doughnut. Since I lost this weight, suddenly the tail bone I broke, falling off a horse when I was 18, has been a literal pain in the a..no, bu...no, bottom. (family board, lol).

Woody, what a great travel guide you would make. Let me know when you start your guide business, I want to be one of your first clients. Now I really want to go to London.

Wendy, don't let the rude troll people get you down, theres one on every forum. Just picture them sitting in front of their keyboard in their underwear. :) Makes them seem even more goofy.

We're not having the greatest start to the new year either. We found out our basset/beagle, Jessie, has bladder cancer and we will be sending her over the rainbow bridge tomorrow. I sure hope she will be waiting there when my time comes.

I am sorry to hear the sad news of Jessie.

Wishing you both have a quick recovery.

Good advice. At many crosswalks, the Brits have even painted "LOOK RIGHT" for us daft Americans.

Aw, shucks!

Linda, I am so sorry to hear about your little Jessie.

You all have spooked me know. The accident and my fall ended the year. I was hoping it would take care of the next year as well. Now you have me r-thinking it. LOL

Woody.. I am so glad that they post it because it sure is scary when someone drags you back and a car goes screaming by. I am certain I reviewed my life on more than one occassion. LOL

I hope Pat is having a wonderful time. We are having warm weather here as well. It would be nicer if we were at CC thought.;)

Sending hugs your way......:grouphug:

Linda so sorry to hear about your sweet doggy. :sad1:

And thanks for the comments about the troll! I did feel a bit like I got my "revenge." I know, revenge is wrong, but I didn't DO anything! On this same thread, troll-man happened to make some post about how 5 people can actually stay in a DVC resort 1BDR or Studio, they just would have to sleep on the floor or provide their own linens (that the DVC guidelines suggest only 4 people). At this point MANY people jumped all over his post to correct him (regarding strict rules about guests 3 and older, fire codes, you name it). I think at least 3 posters came on to tell him he was WRONG! I somehow felt better. :rolleyes1

Guess I wasn't the only one who could make a mistake.....

Woody you world traveler! I wish we could get that sort of time off... sure would make life more fun. Kris make sure you let us know what fun vacation you decide on. I know our plans for this year (outside of DL trips) include the Grand Canyon and Phoenix in the spring, and possibly Hawaii this summer.

Sending :grouphug: pixiedust:   - to Dee & Linda. Geez guys, CUT THIS OUT! Also a little  to Wendy - for not "doing" anything in the revenge category! I too, know how hard it is to fight back a response... remember me holding back sticking up for Jackie?

I agree, Woody would make a great guide. And he's cute too!:worship:

I had a travel nightmare last night, it was cruise related, but then turned into a plane crash... weird. No one was really hurt though, but I had trouble getting back to sleep. Came in late today... but it's cool.

Everyone around here is  and I'm trying really hard to battle off the germs. I started a new eating program and a new "way of life" - so next cruise I WILL NOT BE a size 14.

We can start a new weight loss cruise thread - but frankly if I have too many places to post, I get all confused and lost!

I am looking forward to our "Suite" experience once we get all the kinks worked out. Deposit situation and all... Jackie is working on that so I'm not worried.

Evidently she's enjoying her new laptop - except for an email glitch but the DH will be fixing that this weekend.

Anything else to report? OH, yes, Jackie and I are truly blessed as we will have a visitor from the DIS next month, not saying until "THEY" say it's ok!

:rolleyes1 :goodvibes :scratchin Everyone have a great weekend.

Dee - how is your baby boy doing? You didn't say - so I am praying he's not badly hurt... good luck with the rest of the settling in. I can't wait to start hearing BUNNY stories!
