Nov 6, 2011 Mickey's Mexican Fiesta

Thanks for the invite to the thread princesskayla. This is all a little overwhelming to me but here goes. We are traveling as a party of 12 but my family is a party of 4. DH, DD 6 and DD who will turn 3 on Nov.6. We are from Canada and never cruised or taken a family trip. I would have love FE as I am a paper crafter but maybe next time. We will be in DL 2 days prior and all we need is our park tickets and transportation from LAX. I could not keep the secret from my family and we are all so excited. We are doing the pirate ship in PV and the Mexican Fiesta and Folklore also know as the Mild Mexican Outback adventure in Cabo. I have red no reviews on the later so we may cancel. Can't wait to meet everyone. Only 16 more days!!

Do any of you repeat DCLers know if they sell packages of minutes for wireless access? I know they list minutes for 75 cents each using the "internet cafe", but I wondered about getting some for using our laptop.

Hi buffy321,

What part of Canada are you traveling from? We're (my husband and DS 6 and I) heading down from Okotoks (just south of Calgary, Alberta). We look forward to meeting you on the cruise!

And I believe I have the homemade portion of my FE gifts made and somewhat packaged up! One final touch if I can manage but between that and the other treats I shouldn't run short. Buffy, I may have a few extra gifts I could leave for your girls even if you don't have time to participate in the full FE...

Katrina

I'm not a repeat DCLer but I can tell you that they do sell minutes for wireless access onboard the Wonder: these can be used interchangeably between the ship's desktops and your own laptop. However, be forewarned that the wireless is very slow (moving target for satellite transmission, limited broadband width, and other technical stuff I doubt you want me to continue talking about). You'll want to do your best to draft things offline and only use your minutes to send items if you decide to go that route.

Thanks Katrina! My DH is a computer trainer and likely will enjoy the break, but we each might want to sign on for a short time and clean off the inevitable trash just so we don't fill our in boxes completely up.

We bought a package of minutes on our last cruise and didn't use them up, so we wanted to be more out of touch this time. (buy less and use less)

I am hopeless with sewing, though I do own a sewing machine (for seam repairs and such). BUT, tonight on my way home from work, I went to Joann's and got some background material and two different Disney themed materials for the two pockets and some iron on letters for our names, plus a wooden dowel to hang my creation from.

This being said, I will give it the old college try!!

I don't have ANY prior experience with this exchange. I have my goodies lined up now, but am worried I haven't really "done it right"...

:confused3

:wizard:Good luck on making the Fish Extender! Don't worry about the goodies. I 'm sure they are perfect.

Do you want to do a meet up at Disneyland the night before? I know others have mentioned it and I think it's a great idea. I was think we could all meet someplace at Downtown Disney.

I can't believe how quickly the cruise is approaching. I haven't found nearly enough time to visit the Disboards.

Most of our plans are scheduled. We made dining "reservations" for Colors of Wonder seating on Saturday before we embark and Steakhouse We just need to finalize airport and hotel transfers and our Paramout Studios tour after the cruise.

For all the first timers, your cabin door is magnetic. Many people decorate their doors so they are easier to find and feel more personal.

Things I may have missed:

Did anything ever come of the postcard/recipe exchange? For those interested, that might be a good idea as a FE gifts one night.

Did we decide on a name for our group?

I'll try to get on a lot more frequently over the next month. Looking forward to meeting you all.

Lisa

I think our Group name should be Mickey's Mexican Fiesta! What do you think?

So very nice that you could come join us! Let us know your cabin #. I will have a few extra FE gifts to share as well! Is your 3yo potty trained? My daughter (who is 2.5) refuses to potty train. I wish she would understand that if she uses the potty then she may get to play in a much cooler place. She is not gonna like the nursery one bit. Oh well. I am sure that I will be spending some time in the Oceaneer's Club so that she can play in there will her brother and sister. She is gonna love the Little Enstein's playtime.

I am sure your gifts will be wonderful! Good luck on the FE. I still haven't started on mine :scared1:!

I would love to premeet at Disneyland. Downtown Disney sounds just fine. I know that some of us are going to Worlds of Color that night. However, I am not sure that would be a good idea to include my kiddos. They won't know about the cruise then.

Love it! Olay!

Welcome! Happy to see there are two more "younguns" in our group...I, too, have a 3 year old daughter (and 4 year old son). Looking forward to meeting you:)

I guess it's better to join the party late than to not join at all? :yay: We will be a party of 4: Me, DH, DS age 9 and DD age 4. This is our first Disney cruise. We have tried to keep it a secret but I think my DS is on to us. I don't know how well we have covered all of the slip ups!

A question for the Disney veterans:

1. What is the scoop on formal nights? I have heard that there aren't any "official" formal nights. I plan on dressing up for our reservations at Palo (because I never have an excuse to get that fancy! :cool2:) but my husband wants to know if he should pack his tuxedo for a formal night. He likes to wear it, but only if everyone else is spiffed up too.

We are going all out for Formal night. I ordered formal dresses for the girls and a tux for my son - (who is 9 as well) My husband is renting a tux and I have a formal gown I got from ebay for $16. the formal night is listed in the navigators for the second night. Not everyone dresses to the nine but some do. We are also going all out for pirate night with full pirate gear for everyone.

Glad to see some new cruisers. Welcome aboard! How are you going to suprise the kids? We are suprising our kids as well. It is also our first Disney cruise and I couldn't be more excited. I know that everyone shares that feeling!

My plan is to tell them that we are running some errands (which they hate) and then when we have been in the car long enough that they wonder what is going on, we are telling them that we are going to Disneyland (which we will do on Saturday). Then the next morning instead of driving home, we are just going to drive to the port and let them see the ship. :cool1: No explanation will be necessary at that point!

They are very confused why I bought Pirate costumes but they are dressing up as something else for Halloween. I didn't want them to get ruined before our trip!

We have no problem dressing up (fancy or otherwise). On some of our last cruises we did "Creative Facial Hair Night" for the guys and "Ugly Sweater Night" for everyone. We go to dinner dressed up and the wait staff gets to declare a winner of the best costume, who then gets a small trophy. Unfortunately we couldn't get a big group to go with us this time so we won't be having any theme nights.

Is anyone interested in getting together for a Settlers of Catan game when our kids ditch us to go to the Oceaneer Club?

So very cool!!!! Thanks so much for that picture. It made my night. I can't wait till I get to see that view in person and we all get to see the inside. I can almost here them call "Welcome Beckham Family".

How fun! You know on Saturday (and I think Sunday) at DL they are doing the taping for Christmas parade. :santa: Just FYI. I hear that Main Street gets kind of crowded but the rest of Disneyland is good with not much lines. I can't give you first hand experience though.

What is Settlers of Catan?
