Notre Dame south bend hotels?

There was something in Sunday's paper about being able to go down the ramp, last year they started this. My boys were only able to do this when they did the football camps or a tour, never prior to a game. I cannot find the article, it was in the Tribune. I'll ask my neighbor, he'll know what I'm talking about and point me in the right direction.

Would definitely hit the bookstore. There is a shop that is on Ironwood I believe, these are reduced. There are a lot of things in there that are all official ND licensed items, this is just where they send last year's stuff. Also at the mall, in Penney's, they have a nice large selection of quality stuff. There is a small shop inside the mall, near center--I would avoid it. It's all thin, cheap stuff, wouldn't last through the first wash. The bookstore will have the biggest and best selection, but it will be packed.

I don't know how to go about it, but my boys have all been lucky enough to tour the locker rooms. It was always done through Boy Scouts or their football programs and always on a weekday. I don't know how they arranged this. Might be worthwhile inquiring about. I've been on it twice with them, once with football and once through the ND football camp. You see the locker room with all the rings, plaques and items from the past. Then proceed through and come out where the "play like a champion" plaque hangs on the wall, down the ramp to the field. They don't allow you on the field, but you could take pictures in front of it. If I see one of the old coaches, I'll ask how to find out that info.

If you have time. See the Studebaker Museum. We've lived here off and on for 10 years and I finally went a few months ago. I need to go back. Very impressive. I didn't get to take it all in.

DH graduated from ND and is there this weekend with his friends from college for the game. They are staying at the Marriott, which did require a 2 night stay minimum and is horribly expensive.
All I have to say is that ND football is not budget-related! We drove from MN to South Bend last weekend and stayed in WI with family . . . the trip still cost us $300 plus the tickets purchased in the lottery months ago. We are doing the same thing for the 25th, so another $300 there plus tickets. And I don't even want to think of what DH is going to be spending this weekend!

If you are a diehard football fan, check out the college football hall of fame...do it now though, it is moving to Atlanta in the next year or so. This is probably it's last season. If you have kids going with you, check out the zoo or HealthWorks Museum. Studebaker Museum is supposed to be pretty cool.

By the way...Go Spartans...oh wait that is next week.;)

We are going to the Western Michigan game and I booked Studio Plus by the mall for $89.95 several months ago. Pictures and reviews are fine but I'm sure it'll be stark. I just hope it's clean! I haven't been to a game in 5 years and this is my kids' first. I graduated in 97.

A friend of ours stayed there for a few weeks while waiting for his wife and kids on their move from CA. I remember him mentioning it when we went out one night. He never had a bad thing to say. Hope that helps.

OP are you driving in? Just a word of warning if so and if you are taking the toll road. Mind your speed in Ohio, in Fulton County. My father in law was a truck driver, warned us repeatedly that they will pull you over for a few miles over the speed limit (think 2 or more). It's about the 60 mile marker to about the 30 mile marker, after Toledo. It's the second to last county before you hit the west gate. We've warned friends, only one ignored it, he ended up with a nice ticket ($100+).

You can also try Sturgis, MI. Right off the Toll Road, but many don't think to look at Michigan. We have several hotels right there. It's Exit 120, and right around an hour to ND. Has Hampton, Holiday Inn Express as well as some others.

Thank you everyone for the tips and things to do!! Getting very excited!

Crazy, I live and go to School in South Bend right now. ALl these places you are talking about I know of. :rotfl:
The discount store is south of the Ironwood and 23 intersection. If you are heading south its on the left hand side, past nicks patio, but before the mcdonalds thats on the other side!
Also, parking is EXPENSIVE, our city makes people get special permits just to let people park in their yard.

DH and his daughter are going to ND for the game on October 30! DH told her that he would take her before she graduates from high school, so they are both really looking forward to it. Now I just need to try and find a hotel!

It will be tough, but not impossible. Be prepared to give your arm, a leg and some blood. Most are a minimum 2 night stay. If you want to drive a little, staying in Valparaiso or Michigan City would be cheaper. There are hotels right off the toll road in both cities. Good luck. Parking will range from $15-$40, depending on the proximity to the stadium. We park for free on a side street, but it's about 5 blocks from campus.
Have fun!
