Notifying UK banks of travel

I've always been told its basically a computer that blocks your card so putting a note on your account does nothing at all.

I give the CC company a phone a week before we go. If we stay at dvc resort we put everything onto our card and generally pay it off on check out with cash.

I think it depends on the bank, and what information they put on the computer. Citibank certainly are grateful for the information, and I'm sure they're not just going through the motions! Other banks may not be set up the same so it might make no difference then
