Notification Help

I had someone request to be my friend that is showing up under my "notifications". I have never had a friend request before, and so I clicked on to reject the friend request and "update changes". It is still showing up as a notification in the upper right hand corner under "my notifications". How in the world do I get that off of here?

Did you select the check box on the actual friend request? It is kind of hard to see in the upper left corner of the box showing their avatar and name. You have to check that and then reject and save changes.
