Notice from Orlando Stroller Rentals about theft

I was going to rent from OSR and received the same e-mail. If I remember correctly, they told me that in just the 2-3 weeks prior to my visit 4 of their strollers were stolen and they knew of another City Mini (family owned) that was taken. So if it is now 6 in total maybe the theives have moved on (or gone to jail for something else).

They are offering insurance so that renter's don't have to pay $400 to replace a stolen stroller. They are also recommending removing the wheel so that it is more difficult to steal. She assured me it was quick and easy (and actually suggested by a customer who figured out it was easier to pop the wheel on and off than to use a bike lock).

I still opted out of the rental - and feel very bad about Shannon's situation. She is offering a very high level stroller and now is a target for thieves. Even with insurance to protect me financially I wanted nothing to do with the possible hassles of dealing with a stolen stroller (who wants to mess around with security when you are at the park to have fun). I think the City Mini's are now prime targets (kind of like renting a BMW and leaving it in the parking lot with the windows down and the keys in the ignition).

okay, I am not renting from them but did purchase a city mini stroller for our upcoming trip in Aug. I told DH about the suggestion to pop off the wheel to prevent theft. His reply-- now the person taking the stroller just has to find another stroller of the same kind and pop that wheel on in the missing wheel spot. Aaah the results from being married to a police officer:rotfl2:

That so sounds like what my husband would say! And guess what, surprise, surprise - he's a police officer too!!!! :rotfl:

OP here. I totally agree with this. This is why we are also purchasing the insurance.

Shannon's email said that she has received a lot of customer requests for this insurance. I believe that is why it is now an option. I truly don't think that she's trying to just milk us for more money. I think the chances of the entire stroller getting stolen never to be found again are probably slim, but it was something I was sorta concerned about when we rented from her last time. I appreciate having this option because it puts my mind at ease, but I can also understand why some would not think it important or necessary. To each his own. :thumbsup2

The insurance is a good peace of mind for both customers and the company. No one wants an added stress of "what if" someone steals your rented $400 stroller and the company wants to make a profit, not worry about replacing X amount of stollen strollers. It is your choice to purchase the insurance, so you aren't being forced to spend extra money. Smart business :thumbsup2

Just wanted to let you all know that I rented from OSR during my trip to MK last week and my double stroller did get stolen. :sad1: It was really traumatic and sad for us. We parked it in Fantasyland went on the Peter Pan ride (had fast passes) and came back to the stroller area in 5 minutes. When we looked for it, it was gone. We contacted security..but nothing could be done. I had a 7 month old and a 2 year old with me and my 7 month old's formula, sippy cup, and diapers were all with the stroller. I was literally in tears. Anyway, just wanted to let you know that it does happen... In my case, I don't believe the insurance was offered when I rented the stroller...so yes, I have to pay for it.....:sad2:

Thats terrible I can't understand how people can do that/ I ordered a stroller from A Babies Best Friend and I ordered a lock to go with it. I plan on putting it through the wheel of my stroller and my sisters stroller so I hope that is good enough. I may try to remove a wheel to just in case. Im sorry that happened to you :(

Just as when renting a car, if you don't have your own insurance that covers a rented stroller or video tape/DVD then you should see if the rental agency offers coverage you can buy.

Yes the car rental coverages are a big profit item for the rental agency ergo they cannot be a good deal for the consumer. Yet the coverages can offer peace of mind.

One of these days credit cards will be offering stroller theft coverage much as they may offer rental car coverage.
