Nothing Thread

OK, story time. On eof my co-workers was expecting and her children were to be only 12 months apart. Child #2 was not planned. Another co-worker wanted to give her a date-night for a break, but knew nothing about kids. No problem, I tell her. I'm great with kids. Babysat tons in hs.

So, we take the alomst 1 YO toddler for a night. Guess what, he was less than 3 feet away, we were both sitting on the floor with him and he fell into their tv stand. I swear my finger tips were brushing him as he fell. He looked like a cyclops. Not a good thing!

Our friend took 1 look at him and cried (hormones) and her dh was less than thrilled with us.

Two weeks later we found out the dh was REALLY mad at us. Well, until the same thing happened to him.

You're right, though, Laura, he will bounce back. That's dh's favorite saying "kids bounce."

Ut oh, looks like SOF is showing his politician's greediness!

Happy B-Day Lefty!!! I spent quite a bit of my childhood in N. CA and still have family there too.

Laura -- Sorry to hear about DS's boo boo. How's he going to play all those games at "Up"Chuckie Cheese with a splint on? I think he deserves at least two rainchecks on that one. :teeth:

Hey, speaking of pancake batter...we're going camping again this weekend (not leaving until Sunday though). Guess what we're *not* having for breakfast?

Okay...I just had a "duh" moment. I thought Lefty was trying to get his personal post count to 1000 and saw he was at 959 and thought...man, is he way off! (No, I'm not blonde -- but maybe I'm guilty by association or something.)

Thanks for the bday wishes everyone.
Laura, Hope your little guy bounces back quickly. Just give him lots of mommy love. that always works best.

Mar, Didn't seen Tooneric pass through. Toons blend in too well here.

Wtpclc, I better go edit that post.....

Calypso, I'm originally from San Jose and my parents retired to the Sacramento area.

Very familiar w/both San Jose and Sacramento...I grew up in Marysville/Yuba City area. It's amazing how much it's grown. There used to be miles and miles of peach orchards/rice fields between our town and Sacra-tomato, not it's hard to tell where one stops and the other begins!

Son and dad just came by (and brought me a nice lunch to boot) on their way to our regular doctor. He is fine. :teeth: Can't quite figure out how to pick up things with just his fingertips sticking out of his splint, but I figure that will have him held back for errrrrr 10 seconds or so. :P

Thanks for all your kind words. I have 3 other sisters and we did our share of things when we were younger where 1,000 times nothing happened and then the next time, someone was hurts. Luckily, we all made it.

Mar - I think that "catching" themselves thing is what got Richard too. I have heard that this is the #1 way children break their arms.

Carrie, I suspect that is a HUGE part of why I feel so guilty - hormones. However, you are so right, its not even close to the first time I have ALMOST saved him from something only to watch him tumble. He is 100% boy and most of the time just takes his falls and moves on. (and I am very glad it didn't happen when he was in someone's care. I wouldn't be mad, but as you pointed out, things happen no matter how careful we are and I would hate to have a close friend feeling responsible!)

lol I like the political advertisement Left Coaster! Rash will certainly be thrilled when he returns as well (poor Rash - he is probably so far behind at work right now with back to school and all those appts that had to be rescheculed and wanting to be home with his family too - we miss you Rash!)

hahahahaha Calypso!!! Watch out for flying pancake batter! I think it is fantastic that you are getting to go camping again. Hope you have a blast. Going to a state park? Lake? (we often camped at my grandparents house back at the lake front - lots of fond memories).

So - off soon to pick up Charlie (older son - 5) for open house at his and Richard's montessori school today. :) That will be a nice afternoon. Charlie has been DYING to get back there all summer. Then off to Grandpas for the guys for dinner while mom goes home and crashes out on the couch!!! (trying to take advantage and rest where I can!) Hopefully Richard and dad will make it to the Open house before its over at 5 as well. I know he misses his class too, even though at 3, he isn't quite as vocal about it as Charlie.

Thanks again everyone!

Still lurking and occasionally posting. Yep - life is about 150 mph right now. Thanks for thinking of me. Sorry to hear about your little guy - hope he's feeling better.

NOUGAT

Wow, I'm gone for a week and look at all I missed!

llovell's little one took a fall,
Best wishes to him from us all.

A birthday wish a little late,
Left Coaster's older, celebrate!

Then inlaws made the headline news
Oh, how they make us sing the blues!

The blood bank's left Mar' feeling drained
But on vacation she's unrestrained!

The name changed once more on this thread,
1,000 posts and still not dead!

I must inquire of our Left Coaster,
about a certain poodle poster.
In Disneyland there were 50 I think,
Of poodles painted shocking pink?

YAY!!! The toon's back!!! Great summary poem! There have been somethat have tried to fill in your shoes, but theyy were drawn awful big!!! Hope you had a good trip!

Thanks for the welcome homes. I'll give a trip report after my jet unlags.

Oh, and Nougat!

Ahh, now there's a good Dis'er, runs right in to log on and see what he missed without stopping to help the wife unpack the car. Hope you grabbed a cold one on your way to the computer. You da man!

After seeing that pic of your refrigerator, I'd say that You da man! I'd rush right over but I'm sure by the time I got there Rash would have already been there leaving no survivors.

Thanks Laura :flower:

Yes, we are going to a state park: Cape Disappointment. We've already gone there once this summer, but enjoyed it so much we thought we'd go again.

As you can see, the coastline is a bit wild, but there is a really nice beach area and the kids love collecting driftwood to build forts with. It's also very close to Long Beach, WA which is a quaint little beach town. Our schnauzer loves the long walks on the beach (uh oh, sounds like a personal ad!).
