Nothing Thread

Hi everyone! It's been a busy week here in Toontown. I've missed Nothing. So is Nothing about scrapping at the moment? I'm sort of a digital scrapper. Does that count? I do photo albums of our trips with clipart - mostly Disney Characters and other things Disney. I'm also into editing the videos with fades, music, photos with zooms and pans. Pretty fun, but time consuming.

Hey Toon -- I'm a digifan too. What software do you use? I'm in the market for some new video and also photo editing software. I usually use MS PictureIt Publishing to do my photo editing (cropping, add captions, borders, etc.) and then use internet companies to produce the final project (books, etc).

NOOOOOOOOOO! Not just about scrapping, please!

See I told you, it's a conspiracy!

But, Carrie, I did see your pages, and they are so stinkin' cute! I like the Mickeys. Now, personally, I would never do that, but I enjoyed looking at the fruits of your labor.

And to all those who scrapbook, digital or otherwise, I salute you!

And Gopherit, you made me laugh. My BIL has the same job right now! They've given him 2 assistants, and he's still not sure how to fill his time, let alone theirs. LOL. Oh well, enjoy it while you can, but I always think I'd rather be too busy than just trying to look like it. I understand your frustration!

I'm into scrapping hard copies, but db love Photoshop Elements. he has done some cool slide shows with music.

Welcome back Toon! SO sorry you've missed so much nothing this week.

Here's a vent. I was promised a caramel latte' if I helped the branch manager out yesterday. BAsically, after 2:30 when our receptionist and person who really runs the office leaves, I become teh admin, because teh branch manager is cluless. He has a Palm, but never used it so the batteries died. SO whenever he is out, he needs to call me for phone numbers. He can't print to letterhead, he can't scan and he can barely use the copier or fax. So, I become the admin. I usually don't mind helping out, but if you promise me a caramel latte, you'd darn well better bring it! So, I did not stop at Starbuck this morning, the coffee maker here is not looking very pretty ,as I quit being the one to wash it (I wouldn't make it anyway as he would think I was doing him a favor). When you show up a half hour late (oh, that's normal and hehas the shortest drive and is typically gone before me) and didn't even stop for coffee, you can color me annoyed. So, it's black tea this morning. Grrrr... BTW - This is not the week to tick me off.

gopherit - WHat an appropriate job for someone on this thread to have. ;)

If I may interject - I've used Pinnacle Studio for video editingover the last few years, but just upgraded to Adobe Premiere Elements - much more powerful and flexible. You can buy it bundled with Adobe Photoshop Elements (image editing software), which is also excellent, for about $149. I got lucky and found it at BestBuy.com for $89 - it's now back up to $149. If you bargain hunt using sites like Dealcatcher.com, I'm sure you can get it for less than $149, but even that price is good for such highly-regarded software.

Rash! Good to see you! Looking chipper as always this morning! Mr. Evan must be letting you get your beauty sleep! :earboy2:

Why thankeee, Rash -- I'll pass that info along to DH (who is usually desperate for gift ideas for my brithday, which draws nigh)... If he asks me where I got the advice, I'll say it came straight from the horse's mouth... er, keyboard.

Hang in there Rash - it can't be much longer and the little guy will be snoozing away happily all night! (and you are the most attractive horses patootie I have ever laid eyes on :earboy2: )

Wow - now I feel guilty for all those pictures I have never done anything with! :earseek:

Gppherit - be careful what you wish for lol I used to have a job where I read 2-3 books a week sitting at my desk. The people next door noticed (the bosses are friends so our offices are seperate, but only by a locking door that stays open all the time) if I would like to work for them some on a per hour basis. Sure I say - why turn down money when all I am doing is running through the shelves at the library at an alarming rate. 9 or 10 years later (I know its bad, but dang if I can remember), and here is sit working for the people "next door" 75% of my time, another boss over on this side only 25% of the time and somehow, two small fry bosses that fit in there sideways apparently. (hey - extra gravy for me since 75% boss ad 25% boss said not to include them in my base salary or to worry about the "lost time" for them - its good when the bosses are friends). Soooo - the moral of the story, I have a great job with excellent pay, flexible hours, but there are definately moments when I miss my book reading days. Its almost impossible for me to find time to read the manual for our new software right now because of so much going on and we are just now gearing up for the busy season. :earseek:

Carrie - put an empty Starbucks cup on that guy's desk and say "oh - thought you didn't bring me one in this morning because you needed a cup" :p

Jnrrt - oh goodness honey - get a 2nd opinion! That guy might be a fantastic surgeon, but he needs to understand that there is a huge difference between you using your hands for work and me using mine!

*waving at Toon* Can you and Rash handle all this girlie kinda talk lately :earboy2: Left Coaster and TW1 have left you both to fend for yourselves this week (don't tell them, but its fun to hang out with us chicks  we promise not to braid your hair).

btw - *WOLF WHISTLE* Carrie! Pretty lady!!! and I love the letters! Those are so cool! I don't blame you for wanting that new toy!

btw - the clean house thing...I don't remember WHAT that is lol maybe it goes with that clean desk theory - I might remember once a quarter or so lol

 Everyone looks better when photographed next to a pig! And I've gained a few pounds since then. It was late last night when I realized I posted my photo for the world to see. Very unlike me, I was really just showing off the letters. BTW - No wolf whistles for dh. He's off limits! ALthough, people wave always been surprised at what a good-looking dh I have. What's up with that? :rotfl:

BTW - One of my brochures is "Are your photos in boxes?". And shows a woman with a tower o' photos. Shall I send a consultant your way? ;)

Rash - Hang in there! Looking for a new word. I'd make a recommendation, but that's taboo!

Yeah, don't mean to keep bringing this back to me, but I've been thinking about this a lot since yesterday. I may bail on the whole thing. I was told many years ago that I needed surgery for carpal tunnel. Every musician I talked to said it was the kiss of death, because medicine's definition of "full recovery" is not a musician's, and even then they don't promise full recovery. And there will always be scar tissue, no matter how well healed. So I looked into other stuff, was unbelievably careful, changed my technique, and now have been symptom free for several years. So I know sometimes it's possible. But this is a different problem, not stress related, so I don't know if I have to do it. I'll need to do more research. It bugs me too, that he told me I could play the piano or type within a week. Those are not the same thing. It takes a heck of a lot more force to play a decent piano (the action is a lot heavier on most concert pianos than the ones typically found in people's homes) than it does to type. So maybe this is just what he thinks playing would be like in his head. And he said I'd be achy for several months, I'd just have to take it a little easy. But what's his definition of that? Sorry so long, I'm thinking out loud, but I like this less and less.

I'm thinking I should look for a doctor who specializes in sports and performance medicine. The problem is that there aren't a lot of hand specialists, let alone ones who specialize in musicians, and they're not usually the ones covered by insurance.

Anyway, Rash, I think that was the most serious post I've ever seen from you! I hope you guys are sleeping better really soon - we know what that's like and it isn't pretty after a while.

Carrie, got any more jokes? I'm bummed about my hand...

*smile* you look fantastic to me! I am not shy about posting pictures usually, but have a hard time doing it here without them being mammoth sized (and no I don't mean my tushie :earboy2: )

Hahaha - I has a sister that is a HUGE scrapbooker and she is always threatening me with letting someone loose on me about it! Maybe one day.... but what I really need to do is start printing pictures that I have since buying my digital camera 3 years ago :earseek: At least I am smart enough to burn them onto cd's as well as keeping them on two different computers so I wont lose them in the mean time!

jnrrt - Don't worry about your posts. Sometimes just getting things out and having to take the time to type really gives you a moment or two extra to examine them. Keep us posted. I can see that this would be a very bad thing for someone in your line if you didn't heal BETTER than you went in!

Laura - Thanks. Other factor is that I'm with a member of the hundred acres woods team and in my favorite place. I missed him at my first cb that trip and thought I was going to miss him again. Very happy to see him!

jnrrt - definitely 2nd opinion time! Any way of finding who's qualified to d o hand surgery on pro quarterbacks or pitchers?

OK, here's an old favorite:

Two old guys sitting at the table. One of the says, "I had dinner at a really good place alst night."

Second one says, "Really? Where?"

"Hmmm.... My memory's not what it used to be, you know....What's that flower? You, know, you give them to your wife when you've dones somethign wrong..."

"A rose?"

"Yeah. Hey Rose! Where'd we eat dinner last night?"

:earboy2:

Not to in ANY way minimize your distress right now, jnrrt, but for some reason, all I can think of when I'm reading your posts is the age-old punchline...

Doctor: I'll have to perform surgery on your hands to correct them!
Patient: Will I be able to play the piano afterwards?
Doctor: Why certainly -- I don't see why not!
Patient: Oh goody -- I always wanted to play!

(Ba-da-booom)

I am willing to BET the doc doesn't "get it". No offense to you guy-folks out there, but it's like having a male OB/GYN try to tell me how I should be feeling during/after delivery. Yeah, right dude -- you come pass a screaming bowling ball out your loins and THEN we'll sit on our doughnuts together and have a little chattsy, okay?

As lllovell put it, how you use your hands and how the rest of the world uses theirs are two different things. If my hands were injured, I could type slowly (and it still wouldn't affect my ability to solve a chemical process issue.) Your hands are to you what that doctor's brain and years of education are to him -- without them, neither of you could practice your trade. I'm voting for a 2nd opinion too, if at all possible!

Thanks for making me laugh, Gopherit!

And you guys are right - I'm thinking this out while typing. The more I think about it, the more I'm taking a "wait and see" approach. He told me it won't hurt me to wait - it'll just annoy the heck out of me. But it doesn't affect my playing, and so maybe I'll sit tight for a while and look at other options. At the very least, I'm talking to my regular doctor, because I really do trust him, and he does "get it".

Your birthing analogy reminds me of a friend. After she had her baby we went to visit her, and she was telling me (it was their first) about how she'd told her husband how much it was hurting and he showed her the smiley face chart (remember those from Lamaze, ladies? "Now, during TRANSITION, your wife will have a FROWNY face." :rotfl: ), and said, "no, it's not that bad, honey! You're only here (points to the neutral face)!" at which point she grabbed the book and hit him with it. :rotfl2: He's a great guy, but at that moment, he really didn't get it.

Can't identify with the birthing thing, but did have a somewhat similar experience. Mass teh size of a golf ball was removed from my chest a few years back (not cancer). Dr told me I could go to work the next day. Now, if the incision had not been in a place that was constantly tugged on my gravity, I may have been ok. However..... I wanted to die. I walked around with my arms tightly below my chest teh first day adn tehn gave up the second day and staye dhome. It was awful! I'd liek to remove a mass form a certain part of him and see how he did the next day!

:rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: Lucky for my hubby, he was MUCH smarter than that when it was baby time (this time just have to make sure he doesn't pass out during the c-section....but my midwife assured me he will be able to sit at my head level where he can't see a thing...I just have this vision of a disappearing hubby as he slides to the floor out of that chair lol)

Rash - you don't have any indentions in your head from your recent Labor and Delivery experience do you? ;) Or are you just excellent at dodging?

Glad everything turned out all right in the end Carrie!!! :grouphug:

I do apologize to all the boys. I promise to stop now. Please come back!
