I am not sure this is possible but when I made my reservation request a month ago I was told that there were no studio, 1br, and 2br available for the week after thanksgiving. There were two days available at SSR but we declined. I am now on a waitlist for three different resorts. The reason given for no rooms at all was because people from overseas are taking advantage of the weak dollar. That made me wonder if they are booking the rooms on cash reservation before allowing members the chance to book. Does anyone know the window for allowing cash reservations and how is it possible that there is not a single room of any knid available at any resort?

I just hope we get a room. We go every year and never had a problem getting a room 5 months out.

from Thanksgiving to NY is very, very, very popular with DVC members.

especially the weeks inbetween holidays - lower points, great weather (generally), and the parks not to mention the resorts are decorated.

It is a wonderful time to be at WDW.

always and I mean always make your reservation for this time 11 months before hand. Or you will always be disappointed.

now cancelations happen so you might get lucky.

but believe me there will be more DVC members there in Dec than any other month.

so good luck!!! next year make it in Dec and Jan - and you will be much happier.

last on the wait list will get so long that MS will start refusing to add members.

I've gone during that time and always booked day by day at 11 months, back to year 2000 (BWV). I don't think it has anything to do with the weak dollar or people from overseas, it's just a very popular time for members.

That time (Thanksgiving week through New Year's Day) has been very popular for several years. Since the 7 month window has passed I'm not at all surprised to hear of the limited availability. I don't think it has anything special to do with overseas visitors.

Good luck Hope your waitlist comes thorugh.

When you were told it had to do with people travelling from overseas taking advantage of the weak dollar, I'm sure it didn't mean by booking the rooms with cash. I'm sure the rooms were booked with points, but airfare, food, souveniers...... are all cheaper due to the weak dollar. We were just at the world 2 weeks ago and there were a lot of international guests. I heard a lot more British accents than Southern accents

We booked at the 7mth point and couldn't get our first choice (BCV) so we're staying at OKW and have BCV waitlisted. :santa:

Good luck with your wait list. We booked SSR right at 11 months out for this December after reading all of the good advice on here.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that when DVC members traded out to other non-DVC sites, that's when DVC rooms become available for cash.

I tried booking for Dec 2005 in April 2005 and ended up at AKL (pre-DVC) for a whole boatload of points (still completely worth it - savannah view plus a night launch of the space shuttle from our balcony:banana: ). I now start planning holiday trips the previous year so I'm ready for the 11 month window. If I want to stay elsewhere, I'll try the waiting list at 7 months.

Good luck with the waitlist

I hope the waitlist comes through for you. I always plan all my trips way ahead. Even my air when I fly overseas. I think it is the overseas owners. There were some for rent at SSR for the week you are wanting through II. I don't know if they still are. They were on the getaways section.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that when DVC members traded out to other non-DVC sites, that's when DVC rooms become available for cash.
That's one of the ways a cash room is made available for CRO bookings. DVC rents the room for cash to pay for the non-DVC reservation the member made.

Disney also "owns" a percentage of the points at each resort.

The bottom line, though, is that CRO can't just rent as many rooms as they can for cash. They can only sell their rooms, and rooms that members have traded in. It's possible for there to be a room available for booking on points, but not for cash; and vice versa.

We bought DVC last August due to $2 to the £1 :teeth: Plus a little winter sunshine, Christmas decorations and low points means we have booked for the beginning of December.

Claire ;)

The after Thanksgiving, Christmas decorations are AWESOME in WDW, you can just feel the holiday spirit, not to mention the nice weather and lack of crowds; up until Christmas though.

That is very busy time for us DVC members. We usually go this time every year. I think the developer points are also making th resorts in general more crowded. This time period is always busy for us members.
