Note for those of us who didn't receive email or postcard deals...

I was called by a friend today who just got a postcard rate for $109/night for all deluxes-(CRO told her as long as there was availability, it would be $109 for any deluxe). My husband called CRO and politely asked how we might be added to a list to receive such deals in the future. Even though we are signed up for every mailing, email list, etc, etc, apparently this is a list that CRO has and apparently we weren't on. They added us to it and said that even though we may not get in on a deal this time around, it may be available to us in the future.

Hope this helps everyone else who thought they were signed up for every list imaginable, as well!

Wow! I wish I would get a postcard/e-mail for a $109 rate at Poly, BC or GF:) I have gotten postcards and e-mail codes in the past but not this time.

I was one of the lucky ones who received the postcard - there is no rhyme or reason, since we weren't on any "official" lists and haven't stayed onsite since 1-01 (for one night at BC before our Disney Cruise; prior to that, last trip was 10 days at CBR in '97).

Maybe they're trying to reach past guests from their database?

It worked!! ;)

Since we were casually planning on our usual vacation home rental, we're shortening our stay there and doing two nights at AKL (WL & AKL were the only deluxes available for our dates).

Denise < --- loves vacation homes, but looking forward to a coupla days of Disney Magic :)

I am sorry, but I don't believe this. Maybe the friend misunderstood CRO. I don't think that anyone with the postcard is going to get the Polynesian, Grand Floridian, BC/YC, or Boardwalk for $109.00.

The postcard says $109.00 and up. That rate is going to be for Animal Kingdom Lodge or Wilderness Lodge for standard rooms. Any of the other listed deluxes is still going to be a lot more.

I called the Disney Travel Co today to inquire about rates for the Visa Reward Card packages. We're going in December, and the Visa card Dream Maker pkg ends 10/1. The CM asked me for my email address and the Dec dates I was interested in. She said she couldn't guarantee anything, but I might get a good rate via email that way. She said she was basically telling the computer that I have called in to book a trip, but wasn't happy with the rate given. So hopefully they will "entice" me with a better rate.

I told her I'm a sucker for a good rate. Last year we got a postcard with a great AKL rate and we booked a mini-trip that same day.

I was lucky enough to get the AKL at the email rate. I did ask about the Poly and it was more than double the AKL rate. Doesn't matter to me though, as I was booked at CBR and now I get to stay at AKL (first-timer) for only a few bucks more!

I'm not sure about the "list" that the CRO has. I received an email in march for a delux rate in May (which I used). I'm wondering why I received an email in the past but not this time. It soungs pretty random to me...

any ideas???

There is another thread regarding this same subject.....
How I understand it, is the e-mails were sent out to random people.

Some, who went to WDW last year, but don't plan on going this year, got the e-mail with discounts.

Others, who made reservations months ago, received the e-mail and applied it to their ressie.

It's hard to say how Disney picks this group of people to give discounts to. I didn't get an e-mail from Disney & they've had my e-mail/home address for over a year now!

Doesn't matter to me, I'm waiting for AP codes!

I can't figure out how Disney decides who gets the postcard/email offers, either. I'd say that we've received 5 or 6 postcards in the 6 years since our last trip. At least 2 featured AKL specifically, though they may have said "or other deluxe" in the fine print. I knew we couldn't go so I'd just look at them and sigh for a few days before adding them to the recycling pile.

We're now booked for WL for the 1st week in November, and just received the postcard everyone's talking about (deluxes from $109 for the period ending 10/1). I was surprised since our reservation is in the system and Disney didn't really need to try to entice us! I wonder if there's any possibility of receiving a postcard in the next few months for our dates? Though I'm well satisfied with our rate (237 AAA w/courtyard view and king bed), I wouldn't mind paying less! :D

As far as Disney picking who gets and who doesn't.... I think you folks may be giving them a bit too much credit. I have worked in the Computer/Database field for many years now and I would almost guarantee that Disney's IT group have set up a RNG (Random Number Generator) program to accompish this. It would take far too much time and effort to go through their entire subscriber list (has to be millions) to hand pick folks. I think it is just "luck of the draw" really.

If you didn't receive one this time you might next time. Maybe have one waiting when you return from your next trip LOL.

Cheers,

Schuey

To better your chances of getting an email, you might try something that worked for me yesterday. I was already registered on the Disney site, but I "edited" my profile by checking a few more boxes, even cancelling and rechecking the Disney send boxes, and I received an email yesterday. Don't know if it was luck of the draw or not. Also, if you receive any type of postcard, don't assume it is for value only, etc. The one I received was for value, but when I asked, I could have gotten value, moderate for $79, and AKL or WL only for $109. End date for these offers was October 1. I'm going to WDW Oct 10-18, so am hoping AP codes will come out soon. Hope this helps others.

Getting those postcards doesn't depend on when you stayed on property last or what your future plans are. A work friend of mine just emailed me the card she got (via email) with a rate of $28 off Value resorts - and she has never stayed on Disney Property at all. They go every summer but stay in a condo in Kissimee. I'm with the poster who works with databases - it's purely random. My friend is registered at the WDW website, and it pulled her email address from that.

I just called 5 minutes ago. I was told that if you were on the website or have stayed on site, you were in the database, and there was no rhyme or reason that the agents know about. It is all up to marketing.

who worked in WDW Advertising.

That's me and believe me...these deals are so very random.

We designed the postcards, at the time we weren't doing emails so much...just postcards. Anyway, the names are pulled out of a database and are completely random as to who gets the offer. The database does have info as to where you have stayed in the past. But, it still pulls names randomly for offers such as these. There is really isn't much rhyme or reason at all.

This is a man who still has bowling trophies from High School, and he received the email and deleted it! And removed all emails from his trash! After a thorough scolding, he emailed disney to see if they would send it to us again.. no luck! Although we probably wouldn't go until Nov, it would have been nice to see the offer!
