I understand that putting 5 people into most of the moderates and all of the values is pushing it. However, what's wrong with putting 5 into the studios of say BWV??? There is a queen bed and a pullout double. Plenty of sleeping space, where does the problem come in at? I am not advocating breaking the rules here... I am curious. I don't know about the rest of you, but I spend very little "living" time in my resort.

The problem comes in that the occupancy is set at 4. The maintainence at DVC resorts is paid for BY THE DVC OWNERS. More people makes for more wear and tear and higher maintainence costs. I don't want to pay for your vacation because you can't bother to FOLLOW THE RULES.

Not to mention the extra space on the buses, in the pools, etc. You're not inconveniencing WDW, you're inconveniencing your fellow guests.

Plus it is a fire code. Only so many people in the room and that is set by the fire department not Disney.

I don't see a problem with putting 5 people in a room. Just my honest opinion! Tons of people do it.

To agree with sdoane, the most important reason is because it is a fire code. I used to work for a group of resorts up here and realized how IMPORTANT this really is. Occupancy is determined by square footage of the room. Now, to some this may seem like "oh whatever...we'll just tell them we have 4 people". Keep in mind that the front desk has a complete roster that tells them exactly how many people they have in house. A few years back, we had a minor emergency and had to evacuate the hotel - when the fire department asked for a head count, we told them what we had. They did count and realized we were over occupancy - one room made for 4 had 6 people sleeping there (2 in sleeping bags). Now, the hotel does get fined for this (keep in mind DVC owners....DUES). However, more importantly, had this been a fire in the middle of the night and the fire department had to go in and search - they need to know how many people they are searching for. I'll get off my soapbox now - just keep this in mind when registering your family at the resort (not necessarily you, but anybody considering this).

Hey Jillpie - Good question - maybe Florida fire laws are different, but I know that is how we did it up here in MA. Wish I had a better response...just keep in mind, they have their reasons and it's imporant for all of us to follow the rules

I thought that they only allowed 4 adults and then an infant at POR. Has this changed? Where would the 5th person sleep?

I often wonder about that...not that we have 5 people in our party. CBR is slightly bigger than the other 3 moderates, yet POR is the only one (in the AB) that can have 5 people. So what trundle bed...you can put a sleeping bag for a child next to the bed at the Mansion and they probably won't allow this one. You would think...if anything...they would allow 5 people at CBR, but instead they chose POR (AB) and not the rest of the moderates. I guess this is one way Disney can pushes the deluxe to those who have 5 people in the party.

I am not trying to sound critical of what other people do or think, so this is just what I think about the subject.

IMOP, I believe that if a resort says only four people to a room than only four people should be staying in that room.

I know that this probably couldn't happen, but I would be very un happy if I was paying for conceirge service and I could not get the breakfast or snacks in the conceirge lounge because other conceirge rooms had too many people in them and the food and goodies were gone.

All WDW is trying to do is make sure that everyone gets what they are paying for and have a good time.

It has more to do with bed space than fire codes. They allow a 5th person in POR in rooms with a trundle bed. 2 in each of the doubles and 1 on the trundle bed. Same with some of the deluxes - 2 in each queen & 1 on the day bed. In a DVC studio there are 2 queens or a queen and a double sofa, which they figure 2 people in each. There are some BWV studios that have a small daybed where they allow 5. I don't think it has to do with fire code because a DVC 1 bedroom is twice the square footage of a moderate or deluxe but only allow 4 because there is a king bed & a queen sofa bed, they figure 2 in each. During their sales presentations, DVC Guides have suggested bringing an aero bed for a 5th person to sleep on the floor. DVC member services has been known to accept a reservation for 5 with the disclaimer that there is only bedspace for 4. I don't think they could do that if it was against fire code.

In a certain section of POR (allig. bayou), they have a trundle bed in addition to 2 double beds for the fifth sleeper.

So are you saying that they do allow 5 in a studio or a one bedroom as long as you can provide the sleeping arrangements, ie. aero bed? They actually allow you to book 5 in a room?

It amazes me...the amount of self-righteous indignation about a hotel room. It's good to know that everyone has everything in their lives so well handled that this is the stuff that gets their panties in a bunch....by the way, BWV does allow 5 in a room. (now watch the fireworks really begin)
