we are at home at BLT for 2 nights in September would you upgrade to a Lake View if it was available from a Standard? We are already biting into our next year's points.

Your visit will be magical regardless of where you stay - I'd stick with a standard view for the first trip. Subsequent trips can have the "upgraded view" and each will be special in their own way

For me personally - there's no way I'd book a standard view room. When I'm on vacation I don't want to be looking at a parking lot and sure as heck don't want to be on the ground floor. So, I'd stay fewer nights in order to have the points to do it right. At BLT that means lake or MK view, and at AKV it means savannah view, and at BWV it's boardwalk view.

We had this same debate for our March 1st stay. It'll will be our first stay and decided to make it extra special, knowing that when we stay at BLT (our home resort) in the future we don't have enough points to get a MK view and stay the length of time we'd like. In fact it's starting to look like we'll be stay at other resorts more often. I don't think we appreciated how many more points on average BLT requires than the other resorts when we bought in May or even when we added on 50 points in June. We actually bought the additional 50 pts when we realized the basic 160 pts. just weren't enough.

You will really love all of the resorts! Do try to get a boardwalk view at BWV. It is spectacular!

I would take a standard view over not being able to stay for a longer trip next year. If the extra points don't make a big difference for next year's trip then go for it, otherwise just enjoy BLT and save up those points.

Points management is always a prioity with me, but that said - I figure as BLT sells more units and/or sells out getting rooms and rooms with preferred views will become more difficult. So - if trying the lake view is a dream for you - dare to dream and go for it.
