I am not really sure where this belongs but thought I would throw it out here. My daughter loves to wear skirts, that being said I am not sure what to put under them so she can play at recess and sit criss cross applesauce (very important to a kindergartener :cool2:). Any recommendations? I have found one thing called monkeybar pants but they cost over $16 a pair and that seems high to me. I am just not sure where to look!

Thanks for your help

for summer time we buy skorts (skirts with shorts attatched) and put on knit shorts under dresses. In the winter we do leggings or other knit pants or thick tights. Some of our favorite knit shorts came from lands end. They have an overstocks department that might have alot of knit shorts.

We skip the skirts and do skorts instead you can get them for all seasons. Most of ours have come from Gymboree but Kmart had a great summer selection. Works out perfectly because if it isn't a skirt or a dress, DD isn't interested.

We just wore summer knit shorts under the skirts and dresses. I did that when I was a kid too.

My DD7 LOVES :lovestruc the skorts from Children's Place and I have piece of mind when she plays on playscape and sits in class (not always like a lady). Their website is easy to use and they usually have free shipping with minimum order.

Yup we do skorts, even her uniform ones are skorts! For her dresses, she wears the bike shorts from Gymboree underneath.

My dd usually wears skorts but I have found as she is getting in the bigger size those are hard to find....even at 9 though I still want her to have something under her skirt...especially for P.E.

We found cotton sports shorts at Kohls for about $6.00 a pair and they work great....she likes to sleep in them too sometimes because they are pretty comfortable.

Thanks for all the help! I am definitely going to pay more attention and make sure we buy skorts from now on. I will have to look for biker shorts or cotton shorts for the ones we already have. My older daughter was never a big skirt person so I hadn't ran into this issue yet.

Thanks again for all the suggestions!

I found most skorts are not long enough for school where I live to comply with dress code. I found the easiest is bike shorts or the shorter leggins under the skirts or dresses work best.

I either get the skorts or I put shorts or bike shorts or boys white boxers on under dresses and skirts. All work well!

I get what we call 'cheer shorts' from Capezio Dance Factory Outlet (they have an online store) for $2 each plus shipping. They don't always have a ton of colors or sizes available but for $2 it doesn't really matter in my opinion. I like them because they fit close to her body & don't look bulky.

Bike shorts from Gymboree for us and knit shorts in a pinch. If it is cold then heavy tights or even leggings.

DD5 always wears dresses (she prefers them to skorts and skirts). We put the Land's End knit shorts under them when she needs to make sure she stays covered (i.e. school instead of at home). We do have friends who use the Gymboree bike shorts as well. LL Bean also has some knit shorts, but Land's End has more colors. DD5 wears a lot of Land's End dresses, so we can match shorts or at least color coordinate.

Here are the Land's End shorts - they are on sale for 9.50:

For winter, DD5 wears the Hanna Andersson play dresses with leggings. She loves those, although she doens't like the summer ones (with short sleeves and capris) nearly as much:

It's nice to know my DD is not the only little girl who wants to wear skirts and dresses all the time.

My DD7 LOVES :lovestruc the skorts from Children's Place and I have piece of mind when she plays on playscape and sits in class (not always like a lady). Their website is easy to use and they usually have free shipping with minimum order.

I, too, try to buy skorts when at all possible. My DD's daycare required her to wear shorts under dresses. During the winter, I make her wear tights or leggings.

my daughter (8) only wears skorts.. over the years I have found them pretty much everywhere: target, macys greendog brand, childrens place and limited too. I just bought her 4 adorable ones from limited too for school. I would imagine gymboree has them also.

DD usually wears dresses, for school I just buy solid bike shorts or leggings to go underneath. Gymboree carries them all the time. I usually buy skorts from Tarjay for $4-5 each.

I forgot to mention that I buy skorts @ Kohl's, too. They are really inexpensive there. I've bought them for as little as $3.

I buy the dance shorts from danskin.com - they're $10 a pair and I always get white. I will have to check out the cheer shorts since they sound like the exact same thing except cheaper :rotfl:

My neice wears those cute little skirts, and her mom buys boy shorts for her. She buys them a few sizes bigger, so they are like tight short-shorts. Works well and is cheap at only a few dollars a pair...
