Not sure what to do first...

I posted this elsewhere, but not sure which is the right spot?

We have traveled to WDW several times, but this December will be the first time we've stayed on site. I am very unsure about how to find the best rates, we have basically decided on a moderate resort, but I don't know how to check for the best discount or rate, and I've read through these threads and feel like I still don't understand the best route.

Is there a number to call for rez or do I have to book at the WDW website? How do I check for AAA or AARP discounts? I had done some research earlier this year, but have been so busy and now we are getting so much closer, I would really like to nail down all the details.

Any advice on how to book the best rate would be wonderful. We are traveling with a total of 10 people, but we will likely chose 3 rooms, 2 with 4 people each and one for my mother and her best friend.
They both qualify for AAA and AARP, one is retired military. In another room we have my sister and her husband, who is active military, stationed in S. Korea, who will be on leave at the time. All the adults are AAA members.

Thanks! :disrocks:

Mousesavers.com will answer most of al your questions.

Good luck!!!!!

You will have to book directly with disney (not online) to use the AAA discount but they only have so many rooms available with that discount and once they are sold out you are out of luck. I don't know if they offer an AARP discount but I would ask. I would also ask if there is any offers available for the time you are traveling. Linda

Don't forget to check out Shades of Green. It's for military personnel. Your brother-in-law should qualify for that. They have really reasonable rates, and your brother-in-law could get 3 rooms.

Just a thought.

You can see this year's rates on Disney's site, here.

For Vacation Package Bookings you can call (407) 939-7675 and for Resort Room-only Bookings call (407) 939-7429.

I would reccomend talking to AAA and to AARP to see what kind of prices they can get you.

you can also check on the disboards go down to the budget board and click on the discounts page under the heading. I have gone on the budget board many times and never noticed the discount page until someone pointed it out. Shades of Green is a good recomendation I believe you can also purchase discounted passes for the parks there. Linda

Thanks again for all the info! :goodvibes

We have checked out SoG, but it seems that it will be expensive even with the best of rates, and it doesn't seem very, well, Disney! No theming, which we love.

Does anyone know if it is easier to call AAA travel to book a room only or to call WDW and just ask for a discount?

Also, I remember someone telling me once that you can get a good deal renting DVC rooms from the owners, but I never figured out how to look into that.

You can check what is for rent or post for availability for your dates here :
http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=29

Read the "stickys" up top on those boards. Most charge $10/point. Keep in mind though, that Fri and Sat nights can be quite costly. DVC points really jump up on the weekend...so much so, that alot of Members book other disney resorts on cash---then we just use our points for Sun through Thurs nights.

Early December is lower points that later December.
Example :
Dec 1-4,
OKW (2 bedroom villa ) : $220/night average rental for Sun thru Thurs
OKW 2 bedroom for Fri/Sat nights : $540/night
OKW has the largest rooms and the lowest points, but perhaps not the most elaborate themeing.

BWV/BCV/VWL (2 bedroom villa) for Sun thru Thurs : $300/night

Studios for OKW Sun thru Thurs : $80/night
Studios for BCV/BWV/VWL Sun thru Thurs : $120/night
SSR is in between these rates.
OKW has two queen beds in their studios. The other DVC resort studios have 1 queen bed and 1 pullout fullsize sofa sleeper.
Fri/Sat studio rates jump up : $200 to $220/night

Prices go up for mid December.....and really high for Christmas week.
Any other questions, feel free to ask.

You can also book AAA room only discounts through any knowlegable TA as well as through AAA travel.

In order to book package AAA discounts you must book through AAA travel.
