Not sure if I’ve gone crazy

It’s only two of us or maybe 3 but I always want a one bedroom. I’ve decided against riviera but now I’m trying to decide if I want to buy direct or resale and where. It’s tempting to want to buy direct for the perks. I live in Rhode Island so I like the idea of the discounted pass
I’m curious why you went BRV over CCV?

Ok…Rhode Island, 2-3 occupants & prefer 1 bedrooms.

I think you actually want to buy direct. You have shown that by where you would like to use those points. (Easier to get a 1 bedroom at ‘most’ locations but usually shorter trips when booking at 7 months).

Do you visit Disneyland? If so, I think VDH would be a good match for you for Direct & all that currently comes with it. The transient occupancy tax (tot) is only paid during stays. Would have priority for their 1 bedrooms (needed) and points for Riviera stays.

I don’t visit Disneyland as that is a long plane ride. Maybe as a one time thing but can’t really imagine that

If you want direct points, I still don't think RIV is a bad idea. It's just that owning points at RIV isn't quite as important for those accommodations because, most of the year, you can book them at 7 months (but you will need direct points for those). For direct, if I were in your shoes, I'd be considering RIV or Poly, and I'd pick based on which resort you think you'll like better over the long-term. If you don't think you'll keep those direct points for the long-term, then Poly is a better bet for holding its resale value.

More resale points isn't a bad idea either. You might want to look at BLT - owning there is important to get resort view 1 BR villas (which cost less points), and they are one of a few resorts that have 2 bathrooms in the 1 BR villas.

I definitely wouldn't consider VDH in that case. I'm in the same boat living in PA and I have no interest in VDH points. I'm sure we'll make it out there to visit at some point to visit, but I see no reason to own or even stay at a DVC property out there.

Just to add you need a priority for PVB as well since there are such few number of one bedroom units, although you could do this with resale PVB points as well.

@melissa70
Direct PVB seems to be the best option to obtain the AP savings, book a 1 bedroom at PVB and gives the ability to book a 1 bedroom (w no W&D :( ) at CFW or a preferred and sometimes standard 1 bedroom at RIV.

RIV ownership is really only needed for standard studios/2br lock-offs and tower studios and doesn’t really fit your needs.

Polynesian points resale seem to be almost as high as direct. So I guess the question is resale vs direct … if the perks are worth it or not. I’m sure you guys have watched DVC fan on YouTube? They seem to favor resale..of course they do sell them for a living ..but I’ve learned a lot from them

If you want Poly I would buy direct not resale.

Probably should just buy a SSR second contract for points and call it a day!

Do you all think stripped contracts are worth it if you can get a good deal?

IMO BRV is a good choice. We also bought a '42 DVC, which at our age was never an issue. You can always use BRV points to trade into RIV. I always see good availability at RIV at 7 months. DH likes RIV. To me it is a French provincial version of Kidani = small with better transportation to Hollywood and Epcot.

I love Riviera and so we own there. We like having options for down the road should one come along that my adult children might enjoy more.

We do split stay a lot with RIV and VGF so it gives us the best of all worlds!!

I think having a mix is a nice option. Now, I didn’t buy with resale value mind. If I had to sell my RIv contracts tomorrow, the stays I have gotten and enjoyment of being there more than make up for any loss in $.

Plus, we don’t know what changes DVd could make in the future that impacts resale value for all resorts.

Good luck!

Oh No..now your Title should include…”or just going maddd”. LOL.

Don’t think any “deal” is worth going stripped on SSR. The point of buying it is to use it for SAP as soon as possible.

No and no.

I almost bought SSR when I was first shopping because it was cheap and the deal fell through, I am so happy that happened. I would not have been happy with owning SSR. If you have stayed there and you know you like it then it can be worth it. Otherwise its not worth buying site unseen because it looks cheap to buy.

No they cannot use resale BRV points for RIV.

Also not meaning to pile on to my previous response but you started with RIV and now you've been led to SSR. These 2 resorts are so vastly different from one another.

Its a lot of money to spend, even a cheap resale SSR is alot of money, I would take a step back and not make any rash buying choices when you don't know what is the best choice is just yet.

100% agree!! The saving are not there at this point in time. Perhaps down the road once PVB is sold out again.

If OP were to go direct with PVB for a little more she will start to get $1,000 to $1,500 back a year in AP Savings and with a 1 day no hopper MK ticket now up to $209 on some days it only makes sense to get an AP.

Agreed maybe @melissa70 take your BRV points and book a stay at PVB and see what it is like and rent some points from the board sponsor or here on the rental thread and try out RIV for a few nights. If you have an AP you can also get a great cash rate to try out SSR so if you do go that route and have to book your home resort you know what you are getting into.

I would probably do this experiment as a mostly resort stay although I would certainly visit the parks to see if the transportation to parks is something that you could handle if staying at the resort if you decided to buy in at that particular location.
