Someone reported they had a friend who worked at one of the resorts and they were indeed randomly handing out free tickets.

Ok.. Correct me if I'm wrong.. But I'm still not seeing the leap to "many" got free tickets. Is there some actual account anywhere of the "many others"? Blog etc?

Oh I agree that some folks might/do find it worth the $150. My main issue is that they are running LESS park hours vs prior years, even though attendance continues to climb and more and more attractions are shuttered which funnels more people into less attractions (not going to debate the ultimate merit of the closures, just the short term crowd impact).

Disney Parks (parks only) made $3,000,000,000 PROFIT last year. Not revenue.... PROFIT. Until they get those new attractions open they should help alleviate crowds by at LEAST having the same general park hours as prior years, not cutting them and putting in a pay for event. If they had at least the same general hours available and then tacked this paid event on I would not care but that is NOT what they have done.

I think there is a demand for having a less crowded park. IIRC there was a survey asking if you would pay for guaranteed low crowds, I think it was to do with tiered pricing, but these events could have been a result of those answers.
I have no problem with Disney reducing hours for the general public and offering an extra for those willing to pay. I'm not sure what time MK is usually open during April and May but its not like they are kicking everyone out at 7, 10 is still pretty late IMO, especially for those who were at RD.

I was staying at CSR not AoA. Had friends staying at AoA. None were offered comp event tickets. Also had several DVC friends on site and most of them didn't get the email. As I mentioned early on in the thread, I'm not sure how the invites were decided.

Saw reports on fb from 2 families, I think one was comped and the other paid (but I didn't ask). They loved it. One family posted pictures of themselves and cm as only people on attraction. Another picture on Buzz with all empty cars in front of them.

Today, catching up on this thread is the first I heard about comp tickets at AoA.

As I said before, I won't pay to do this, but if it's offered to me complimentary, I will gladly accept!

I admit.. Every single photo that I see makes me wish I had extra vacation time!!! It just has to be such a wonderful experience for those who were/are able to attend!

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, word is that they sold about 300 tickets the first night. Attendance was estimated around 1000. That leaves 700 unaccounted for. I call that "many".

Could you imagine the people who paid that obscene amount finding out many of the others who attended got in for free?

I guess, for me, that I would need to read accounts of a lot more people being offered to attend, or attending, for free to make that conclusion.

I'm pretty sure at least one reported here that he/she paid and wasn't bothered in the least because their experience wasn't diminished.

If I was DVC and I thought they wouldn't sell out.. I would definitely wait until the 11th hour to purchase. No question!

I'm simply stating that the one and only person that has posted who ACTUALLY WAS IN THIS POSITION FOR REAL wasn't bothered by it.

Believe me -- I KNOW VERY WELL that many here would not react the same way as that poster!! Nothing clearer in this thread!

Like I said earlier though.. A paid guest who wrote a review on another thread, said he was unable to purchase tickets on the first night due to it being sold out. Regardless of if some were given away.. he still was unable to obtain them. So that would worry me and I may just cave and buy anyway.

It makes complete sense to me that DVC received an offer like that. More than likely they are annual or more visitors. Chances of them purchasing the same tickets later on could be high. So giving it for free lets then experience and make the decision for next time.

I think this concept of a after hours party may sell better if the ticket price was lower or it included a dinner. $149 for a few hours and ice cream is a joke. Not to mention many feel they are selling the extra magic hours that use to be free for on site guests.

I can see some skipping it just on principal alone.

I'll believe a first hand account--
I believe people who attended the event.
I believe the guest who did not receive invites.
I believe anything that can in some way be accounted for or proven.
Maybe I'm too skeptical.
