This was our second stay at the Homewood Suites at 3100 Parkway Blvd in Kissimmee. We were there from 1/16 thru 1/24/04. Our previous stay was in January of 2002.
Our room was even nicer than last time. We had almost no complaints last time, but this time the location was better (in our opinion) and the room seemed a bit better maintained. The room did not have the recliner that we had last time, but since the recliner was broken on our last visit, we didn't miss it this time around! Last time we stayed in bldg #7 I believe, which was towards the back. A short walk across the parking lot, through a passage way that went through a blding, and then around the pool to the lobby for bkfst and laundry room. This time we were in bldg #1, room 112, facing pool side, first floor. THere was only one evening when the kids in the pool were a bit loud, but as my children (and I) were able to sleep through it, I didn't make any complaints. It was only about a 30 second/1 minute walk to the lobby for bkfast and to the laundry room. And this time our door opened to the outside, versus our previous stay where we stayed on the second floor and the door opened on an inside hallway.
They had improved the bkfst buffett to include scrambled eggs and either bacon or sausage each morning. It also included toaster waffles, microwave pancakes, toast, english muffins, pastries, fresh fruit (bananas, oranges, apples, grapefruit). Juice, coffee, cocoa, oatmeal, cold cereal, milk, peanut butter, jelly, were also included. The food was fine, plentiful, fresh, and hot. They could use a new toaster or two however. The three double toasters available were only partially working most mornings and were busy.
THere is a manager's reception available from 5-7 Sunday through Thursday I believe. We only caught it one day. It was hot dogs, salad, chips, beer, wine, soda. It was a fine, quick, free supper. According to the menu, they had tacos and baked potatoes on other days. Certainly nothing fancy, but for free it was great!!
Our room had two double beds in the bedroom, which also had a tv, as well as a double-size pull-out sofa in the living room. There was a tv in the living room as well. The kitchenette had a full-sized microwave, two burners, coffeemaker, dishwasher, regular refridgerator/freezer, small sink with garbage disposal. There were a few dishes, glasses, pots, silverware. Enough for a small meal or snack. Don't expect to have dinner for 6 on the table though! THere is a nice size table with two chairs.
There is a full wall with a double door that closes off the bedroom from the living space. Great for putting the kids to bed at night. Nice heavy drapes keep out the light/sound.
There is a full sized tub/shower in the bathroom, a closet with decent hanging space and some shelves. There was a hairdryer, iron/ironing board in the room. THere was also an electric alarm clock.
There is a dresser with two very large drawers in the living room that the tv sits on.
There is another dresser with 6 good sized drawers in the bedroom that the other tv sits on. LIke I stated, there are shelves in the closet.
Our towels and bathmat were replaced every day. (I have noticed that some hotels, even really nice ones, are starting to ask you to "conserve water" by not requesting fresh towels every day!! Isn't that what hotel staying is all about??) Our beds were made up every day, the dishwasher was loaded and run every day (even when we only had two dirty glasses!)
I did request extra pillows one night and got a call about a minute later saying that they didn't have any more available, as they were sold out that night. But they were very apologetic about it. As it turned out, there were extra pillows on the top shelf of the closet for the sofa bed that I didn't see until the next day.
We did request to have a lamp replaced one day, as it wasn't working. They came very promptly and took care of it.
I had a package of food shipped to the hotel for myself. It was there waiting when I arrived (THANKS to UPS!). I actually forgot to ask for it when I checked it, but the desk staff brought it right to me.
I did the express check-out so I didn't have to bother to go to the front desk on the morning we left (good thing since we were running late!).
There was a nice looking exercise room that was not in use any time that I passed it by.
The pool/hot tub had been emptied and cleaned the week before we arrived. They were both a bit cold on our arrival (as was the weather!), but were very clean and they warmed up quickly. There were plenty of clean towels available near the pool the first day we used the pool. The last night we used it my husband said he had to request some towels, as there were none out, but they quickly brought some out fresh and warm from the dryer.
There is a large sandbox area available for the little kids. We never used it.
There is a small picnic pavillion with a grill available for use also. We did not have time to use this either.
It never took us more than a maximum of 20 minutes (under 15 several days) to drive from our parking lot, to the parking lot of whatever theme park we were going to, including all the WDW parks, Wide World of Sports Complex (very close!), and Sea World.
We enjoyed our stay tremendously. We would highly recommend this hotel. It is not fancy, but a good value for the price we paid. It was clean and in good repair and is very close to the parks. In my opinion, you can't ask much more!
Be sure to request a room away from the highway. While I don't think the noise would have been enough to bother us, it may bother some light sleepers.
There are lots of restaurants on the strip (192) that Parkway Blvd is off of.... including TGI Fridays, Olive Garden, Waffle House, Shoneys, several steak houses, japanese food, McDonalds, Wendy's, Dunkin Donuts, and Publix grocery store. It is also very close to Celebration (the new town) if you feel so inclined to visit there.
Let me know if you have any questions...... I will be happy to answer whatever I can!...................P
