Not so much a savings, more like reallocating where the money goes (Part 20 pg14) NEW

I love DQ - the ice cream place. I have never been to DQ in Orlando. Maybe I should go cause I am really good at PacMan :rotfl2:

We may be finished before Sept. Then you can finish up your trip where Mr. Silly visited places not on the plan. Remember that trippie :rotfl2:
you never finished.

Just saying...............

"Stopping in the middle is distinctly unpatriotic"

And I like the Muppets 3-d. “It is extremely unpatriotic to not move to the end of your row.” That kills me. DED. I probably have that quote wrong cause I am too lazy to google it and check

You're welcome. I love the Muppets too.

:teeth: I knew someone would know it. Actually I bet Mr. Silly remembers, I just didn't think to ask him until right now.

I want a tee-shirt that says that, I wonder if they make them...

Naw. I’ll just nap at some of the shows. Works for me.
Haley!!!

My two favorite places to do this: The Hall of Presidents and The American Adventure!!!!

“Free” Dining the trip report (Oct 2005, a little late)
Not so much a savings, more like reallocating where the money goes.

Part the 20th, in which I visit Everything Pop, and we all go to Cape May

Today is our last full day in the World.

I am up at dawn as always and I saunter down to the food court for my free refill. I gulp down my substitute for coffee- warm brown water with a hot chocolate packet mixed in- and fill er up again.

The hot chocolate gives it an extra kick. I like to think it is the caffeine in the chocolate. It might be all the sugar, though.

Gotta get my $11.99 worth out of that mug.

As I look around the area a bad case of Disneyfreude sets in. I start to wonder who in there is on their first day, who is in the middle of their trip, and which other poor saps are about to get the envelope of doom.

I see a well rested family.

Clean clothing, no sunburn, happy kids.

Clearly they are at the start of their trip. I look away.

I try to find another bedraggled soul. A kindred spirit who, like me, is thinking that the end is near. But everywhere I look I see happy well rested people.

I need to get out of there, but first I need to pick up a cinnamon roll for Max and Sophia.

We have a PS for Cape May at 10, but they will need something to hold them over. When I ‘pay’ for them I notice, to my horror, that we have 11 CS credits and 17 snack credits left.

I wonder if we can eat that much in the next 24 hours. We have 3 sit down meals left too. How did this happen? We have eaten more than our fill everyday, and still we failed to use all our free credits. Leaving credits behind is worse than a root canal, it is almost a mortal sin, it makes me get the hebbie gebbies just thinking about it. Not use all our free credits, even the thought of it is almost unspeakable.

To get back to our room I need to cut through the lobby.

That is when I see them.

The people checking in.

I tell myself ‘we still have today’ but it is of little comfort. I don’t hate them. That would be wrong, and too much like Zzub. I ENVY them. I want a KTTW with a date that is not tomorrow. I want to stay. But I know I can’t extend this trip. We have a long drive ahead of us. A very long drive. Longer than we expected even.

However, we still have today. So we putz around our room a little and then head over to Cape May for breakfast. Breakfast was, well, filling, I guess. And we saw Minnie, Sophia’s favorite. She is not so much into the Princesses. She loves Minnie though.

She has had a Minnie dress since she was two. She has the shoes and the ears and the gloves too. Very cute. She wore it to breakfast and looked very sweet.

I wonder if she will wear it one more time, or if she is too big already. That makes me wolley to even think about. My baby is getting big too fast. I think she will wear her dress-up outfits into the parks one more time. I hope so, anyhow.

Ok, so I exaggerated when I said she was not into the Princesses.

Maybe she also has a princess dress, or two, or one of each and two of the Sleeping Beauty/Aurora/Briar Rose variety.

But Minnie IS her most favorite of them all. Sleeping Beauty is next despite a campaign on her father’s part for Belle. Belle loves her Daddy, even almost gives up her prince for him, plus she loves books. So it is an obvious choice for a Daddy to push.

I am not sure when Sophia fell in love with Minnie, but she was asking for a Minnie dress by the time she was three. She looked so cute. That year she insisted on wearing her Minnie dress all day long at Disneyland. In the summer heat. She got tons of attention, and she loved it.

Cape May gets an A+ for how it handled Max’s food allergies. This was the only place where they offered to mix up a batch of dairy free waffles for him. Mickey head waffels, not the frozen dairy free waffles they offer him sometimes. Max loved them. He was thrilled. It is nice to have kids that are easy to make happy.

He is always so good about not complaining when Sophia gets the Mickey waffles, and all sorts of desserts, and such. He has very slim pickings at counter service places. None of the desserts are 100% safe for him, unless you count fruit as a dessert. Even the strawberry bars have a nut warning and the huge popsicles too.

We can get him dairy free ice-cream, but a week of that sort of burns him out. So the waffles were special, and I was grateful for them.

It was a good start to our last day in the World.

Me first! Haley! My TR buddy! We WILL finish!! We're nearly there! ((You more so than me, I think.))

Definitely pop some pho-toes up there!

 about the waffles. It must be really difficult to deal with the allergies -- I love that Disney is so accomodating to all kids of dietary needs.

((and P.S. --- your kids are not easy to please by luck. I think you and Mr. Silly must be teaching them well.))

OMG!!!!!

THE HORROR!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best line of your report:
"I start to wonder . . . which other poor saps will get the "envelope of doom".

You have expressed exactly how I feel about that abominable thing hanging on my door at the end of the trip. :sad2:

Haley - Just got to ask this question. The gated community estate is in Cape May. Famous really. Why didn't you stop in :confused3

What is more confusing is we usually stop there for a meal :rotfl2: As if we don't already live in Cape May :rotfl:

Haley, love, you really need, on occasion, to stop reading the collected works of long-dead Greek philosophers and take a gander at a Yiddish-to-English dictionary. And then you will come to realize just how wrong this phrase is (although it did give me a chuckle trying to picture that particular scene). FYI (or, I guess, TFI), the word you were looking for was "putter".

An English-to-English dictionary wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Ah, I'm sorry this is coming to an end. Although, at the rate of production, I'm thinking you'll drag this out for another month at least.

I can't take a month to finish this, I gotta start on the pre-trip report. We leave in 32 days :teeth:

And yet.

Here we are.

Two days later.

And.

Nothin'.

:teeth:

Better get to crackin, countdown is on, and we may not EVEN have a winner

Part 20 is ready to go...

I am just going to jump right it.

After breakfast we headed back to Epicot.

We had not made it all the way around the World Showcase yet. We had Food and Wine Festival booths to explore.

While in the planning stages for this trip I happened upon the menus for the F&WF booths. Well happened upon might not be exactly it. I searched them out. I left no rock unturned, no post unread, no board unvisited.

Or at least I spent a good 15 minutes with the DIS search feature. Anyhow my point is, wait, did I have a point?

Oh yeah, the F&WF menus revealed that Italy had a cannoli (sp? Chappie). It was a goal of mine to seek out this cannoli (sp? Chappie), and sample it. Taste it. Eat it. Gobble it up. As it turns out, I never did get that cannoli (sp? Chappie).

That’s the real reason why we are going back this year.

We didn’t spend a whole lot of time in Epcot.

We had dinner plans.

This was the dinner we were most looking forward to.

Jiko.

We stayed at the AKL for a few nights a year-and-a-half prior. We were not on any sort of dining plan, free or otherwise. We took one look at the prices and made a PS for Boma. They were PS back then, not ADR’s. So this time we were going to splurge, live a little, use 2 of our free dining credits even.

The Animal Kingdom Lodge is my very favorite resort so far.

Of course we have never stayed at the Poly.

And I doubt we ever will.

Because I am cheap.

I can not sleep easy in a room I paid $300+ dollars for. That is over $12 an hour! Seven hours of sleep would cost us more than $80. I think not. We can sleep for seven hours at Pop Century for about $23, and with a little luck and a good code we can sleep for seven hours at the AKL for a mere $35.

We really do spend all day in the parks, so a Deluxe resort is just wasted on us. We also really like to go back to places we love. So. If we do decide to stay somewhere 'nice' next time the odds are pretty good we will pick AKL. Unless we decide to rent into DVC...

Anyhow.

So we wanted to get to the Lodge a little early because there are tons of neat things to do there. Animal viewing and talking to interesting CM’s and such.

We met the coolest guy from South Africa when we stayed there. He used to work as a game warden in the huge South African parks. So he knew tons about the animals. Plus he had tons of funny stories. And he was nice too. My kids loved him. We must have spent 3 hours over three days talking to him.

Some people seem to think that there is something wrong with Disney being an educational experience, but for us life is an educational experience. There is always something to learn. From everyone. And we like to learn new things. We find it fun. And interesting. So a resort where people from other countries are around and part of their job is to tell you things about their home, and answer questions. Well that is our sort of place. We also like libraries. TFI.

Here is a link that has not much to do about anything.

Plus they have a nice gift store. It used to have a pin trading book in it. Those are gone now. Bummer for us. I have a feeling too many people abused the system.

Our PS time was a little late because I wanted to make sure we were good and hungry by the time we ate. As it turns out I really didn’t need to worry about that.

TFI, My kids are quiet and fairly well mannered. They don’t pitch fits or run around the tables or use their outside voices inside.

At least not very often.

They eat out with us a lot. Always, almost, because this cheap Momma figured out that kids meals are way cheaper than baby sitters. Plus I like my kids. I enjoy their company.

I checked us in and got one of those light up saucer things. Then we waited, and waited, and looked for hidden Mickey’s, and waited, and found hidden Mickey’s, and waited, and waited, and showed other people where the hidden Mickey’s were, and waited some more.

Finally our saucer light up.

Right after Max handed it to Sophia to look at. He had been waiting for it to light up forever. Poor kid. His luck is sort of like that. But there will be other light up saucers for him to hold and watch light up.

TFI, I think we waited about a year, give or take a week.

When we went up to be seated, the hostess saw the kids. And she might have given us a look. I don’t remember exactly, but I do remember that as we walked aaalllllllll the way across the restaurant I noticed a decided lack of short people.

Not many kids.

Almost none.

Except for mine.

They seated us against the back wall in the corner. I guess we looked rowdy again. Then we waited forever minus one day for anyone to notice we were sitting there. Our server seemed mildly annoyed that we were there. The food was good but not great. Not nearly as fantastic as we had hoped. That is the last time I listen to anyone on the DIS about anything ((big grin)). Well, maybe not.

The timing of the meal was horrible, our waiter/server person was AKA the guy we never saw. He was not stellar, TFI. We now refer to this dining experience as the trail of tears, the dinner from the black lagoon, or the place we are never going to again.

It is possible we were just burnt out on dining.

We had eaten a lot by this point. Enough to feed a small country for a week. We were sick of eating four course meals. Sick of waiting an eternity between our main course and dessert. Sick of having to beg to have our water refilled. Sick of talking to chef’s about Max’s food allergies and having them suggest grilled chicken. We were done.

I did manage to finish my dessert, though.

It was the end of our last full day in the World and even though our much looked forward to meal was a disappointment, I was said that our trip was coming to a close. So I did what everyone does, I tried to squeeze in lots of last day magic. We had another much looked forward to meal on our horizon. Lunch with some girlie girls. In Norway, even.

So we went to bed for the last time in our little cubical that had been our home for eight nights. Disney sleep is good sleep.
