Not Ready To Make Nice

Love that song! Actually I've always loved all their songs. I think what happened to them, and the way they were treated was shameful. It was really the very worst side of our country. I'd say one of those rare times, I've truly been ashamed of our country.

Clear Channel and Toby Keith really showed what they were made of and it really wasn't pretty. I avoid both of them now and forever.

Toby Keith is an idiot. But I don't think well of the way either side of that argument held their own. Both Natalie and Toby acted like little babies and they continue to do so when it comes to each other.

FTR. . .the Dixie Chicks were not banned from country radio. Some stations still play them and CMT plays their videos. Select stations took them ff the air because an overwhelming amount of people contacted them and told them they would not listen to that station anymore if the Dixie Chicks were played. It all came back down to the almighty dollar and who makes it.

I love the Dixie Chicks older stuff. I've seen them in concert when they first hit it big and they were AWESOME! I didn't agree with what they said and I admit that initially I got some sick satisfaction that they were basically banned from country radio. But after awhile I realized how ridiculous it was. I miss hearing their music and I really like that song.

I ADORE that song. It's a big screw you to George W. Bush. It gives me peace.

Oh yeah, me too! I sing it at the top of my lungs.

I think the symbolism is marvelous in the video-the handprints all over them, the examination, the black/white and more. I LOVE the last shot of Natalie Main's face just looking out. Thanks for the link, I had never seen the video. I think the DNC will invite the Dixie Chicks to play at the convention. Ahhhhhh! Another Calgon moment. lol!

To me, that song has always been a slam on the entirely childish fight between the Dixie Chicks and Toby Keith. Both of them should realize their 15 minutes of fame are up.

They're all richer than they were when it happened and continue to do very well for themselves.

I understand why you could hate the song. I'm military too.

I try to look at it as not WHAT Natalie said, but instead that she had the right to said what she felt, and people were trying to silence her because it wasn't their view. I like the song for the melody and message of principle. You can apply that message to other situations; not just what happened to the Dixie Chicks.

Does that make more sense?

Phil Donuhue was on our radio talk show - he also talked about this "right to say it" he has a documentary coming out, and I'm wondering how it will play out in the conservative media - it reminds me of how the Dixie Chicks were villified, I dont want to live in a world where I dont have free speech...

I also appreciate forgive and forget - just reach out and let it go.... it would be so nice if we could have differing opinions without being accused of "attacking" one another...

its just a sad, strange time we live in...

I don't recall Reagan being under the same sort of worldwide "concern"....but I pray with all my heart that you prove me wrong.

The Dixie Chicks video was made shortly after Vice President Cheney shot his hunting partner accidently.

If you look closely at the chalkboard it says, "To talk without thinking is to shoot without aiming" Think there was a message there?
