Need some help and advice here. I thought I had seen a while ago that if you eat at CS you could order a double burger meal and then buy an extra roll and share the meal. I cannot find any info on this! I don't know if this is allowed or not. We are going in September and are not on a dining plan and are on a budget. It is only my husband and I so any info on the above or sharing or good places with good food to share will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do you need the extra roll? My husband and I split almost every entree we eat out (portions are huge!) and we've always just cut burgers in half.

Last time I tried to do this they changed the burger meat and no longer offered a double.

We were on DDP, and DH and I still split everything. We would just eat more often - ha! There were many times though, that we would get a burger, and split it as a heavy snack/light meal. I would always end up stuffed. At the end of our vacation in 2010, we had 5 CS meals left at the end of our trip. (we swiped them out for souvenier snacks that DD took back and shared with her class).

Places that we liked with big portions were :
*our hotel's QS place (roaring Forks at Wilderness Lodge) - we would routinely get a bacon toped burger on our way back to our room.
*Pecos Bills (Frontierland in MK) - we had their Taco Salad a few times. Because of their set up, you can get all the lettuce, salsa, etc you want, so depending on how far you spread that taco meat, it's a really filling meal! We also got burgers here too - we loaded them up with sauteed mushrooms and onions from the bar. And we also got melted cheese for the fries... YUMMO!
*Pizza Planet at HS? DH and I split a pepperoni Pizza and the side salad. This was more of a heavy snack.
*Cantina De San Angel (Mexico - Epcot, out near the water - QS) - we had the tacos, but looking back, we probably should have just gotten the nachos. filling!
*Main Street Bakery (MK)- We split the cinnamon roll between the 3 of us, and we were all stuffed! Dang thing was the size of a loaf of bread!
*Starring Rolls (HS) - we didn't do this because we were never hungry when we went by it, but those cupcakes were humungous!

Please also keep in mind that DH and I can be big eaters, but when we were on the go so much like we were at WDW (always walking, over 7 miles every single day of vacation!) we never wanted too much all at once. We ate little bits, more often. We did hit up Pecos Bill's every day we were at MK though - LOVE that place!

I think that it was once a budget option but Disney started charging a pretty hefty price for extra hamburger rolls. I think it's Disney's way of discouraging the practice of ordering a double burger and extra roll without coming out and telling guests what they can do with their food once they've purchased it.

Just remember that you can get anything that is part of a platter by itself. So, you can get just an order of coleslaw or just the burger or whatever. It may not appear on the menu marquee but you can order it just the same.

You can also save money by skipping the soda or iced tea and just ask for a cup of ice water with your meal.

We've also found that aside from ice creams, it can be a cost-saver to share snacks. Most of the time, we just want a little something to take the edge off our hunger and the snack portions are too big. Sharing helps to cut the cost.

I don't think that Disney's platters alone are big enough to share between two adults but if you order just an extra sandwich to go with the platter, then sharing the sidedishes helps. But that's just my family's experience. The boys are capable of eating an entire platter by themselves. My daughter and I can easily share with each other if we order a little something extra or if we want to be able to eat dessert with our meal.

The prices at Counter Service are not much more expensive than eating at fast food restaurants. Maybe $1 or $2 more than the typical combo meal.

Look at allears dot net website for menus and pricing for each restaurant at Disney. Mousesavers dot com also has ideas about frugal meals at Disney.

Our family only eats counterservice at Disney. The ability to share a meal depends on how hungry we are--my teen boys can eat all of their food plus whatever DD and I have left. Sometimes DD 10 and I are so hungry that we both eat all of our food. We also try to stay at the Cabins at Fort Wilderness(family of 6) which allows us to put something in the crockpot to come back and eat.

I have found that the portions at Pecos Bills at MK allow for sharing--especially the chicken wraps (huge). Adults can order a kid's meal at any counterservice, too if you are not very hungry.

For Disney trips, I plan about $10-$15 per person per meal and then $10 for snacks.

When at Disney, we grab something quick for breakfast-granola bar etc., eat a late CS lunch and then have a snack or light dinner and another snack before bed, especially when it's hot. So not a lot of "meals" needed.

I think all the double burgers were changed to an Angus cheese burger and you would just have to cut it in half. They did raise the price of the extra bun to $1.89 before they changed burgers.

I don't like the burgers at WDW - they always make me feel nauseated so I avoid them. But if you have to have a burger I suggest going to a place with a toppings bar.

And I don't think there is enough food for 2 normal adults to share 1 meal. We always supplement it with at least a kids meal if we are trying to save money. That way there are 2 drinks, extra fries, and some kind of entree.

Recommend the BBQ and Chicken platter at Cosmic Rays, The Shwarma Platter at Tangerine Cafe, and any meal at Wolfgang Puck Express at DTD for sharing. Plenty for two people. They are all about $12 so splitting makes $6 meals each. And just ask for ice water when you order your meal, it's free.

I was in world start of May and I don't recall seeing toppings bars in Cosmic Rays, Pecos Bill or Liberty INN. I saw an area where you could get relish, ketchup, mustard mayo etc but no Hot cheese, mushrooms, or pickle slices.

Really? I have eaten at Peco Bills on another trip and they did have toppings but it has been awhile since then. I guess they have changed things:sad1:

Oh no!! The extra pickle slices were one of my favorite parts about eating at cosmic rays!!

Cosmic Ray's at MK had pretty good sized portions for their Greek Salad with Chicken (off the lunch menu) and their Chicken Sandwich with fries (this was off the dinner menu). I had wanted to split a meal but my bf thought we wouldn't have enough food. We both brought back a half a sandwich that was more than enough for lunch the next day :) It was delicious. The bread was hearty and they put a lot of meat and toppings on the sandwich. It was a great value.

They had a fixings bar with plum tomato slices, pickles and relish. I'm not sure what else was there besides ketchup, etc. I don't remember seeing cheese.

Desserts at most locations are also huge. I couldn't finish a cupcake in one sitting. A chocolate frosted brownie was four inches square!! :) I think you'll be fine splitting meals and like another poster said... you can share the sides but order an extra sandwich if you want.

Roaring Forks at the Wilderness Lodge serves 3 Mickey waffles with 6-8 strawberries with 3 pieces of bacon for breakfast. I could have eaten the whole thing myself because it was so delicious - but we split that meal and ate some leftover omelet we had from the day before.

Sunshine Seasons at Epcot had good sized portions but I ate my whole meal that day (Salmon) I would say that was enough for one. If you were sharing that might work for a small mid-day meal.

I was on the dining plan so I felt forced to order dessert with each meal but most times I was full just from the meal itself (and with leftovers)

I was wondering because no way can we split. I myself have no problem eating a cinnamon roll, in fact even asking for half of mines is fighting words. ;)

That's the problem I've always had with splitting.

At peco's bill we tried the extra roll thing. by the time we ordered a side of fries and extra drink, we saved 4 bucks? and I was still hungry because I only had half my burger.

I guess we are the opposite, all the walking, running and riding makes my entire family hungry.

Earl of sandwhich, same thing. I get a meatball and split it with my dh. for about 1 hour we were ok, but since we really weren't full we ended up snacking on ice cream to tide us over to dinner.

Some times one person may have some food left over but it's never enough to complete a meal for the 2nd person.

Wolfgang puck express. I had the Margerhita pizza. while I had one slice left, no way no how could one slice hold my dh over. LOL
He had a chicken alfredo and not a noodle left.

So in hindsight, we tried it once but either one person had to suplement their half with chips or some thing or we ended up snacking 1 hour later.

Let me ask you, do you share when you go out normally? if you don't then it may not be all that satisfying at disney. JMO

That would be very sad for us, we loved those mushrooms.

I don't know...I eat a fair amount, and DH eats a lot,and we share quite a bit..... but we also snack quite a bit too!
