DD will not go for the ribs or chicken (tho not a true vegetarian, she doesn't eat anything with bones, or any kind of red meat), and I really don't feel like paying close to $60 for a plate of mashed potatoes and salad.

Truth be told, I'm not a big fan of the food at Hoop-Dee-Do, altho DH and DS will eat themselves sick! If there is something for vegetarians, I may order it as well.

And do I mention this when I make the ADR, or can I just tell our server? We just told the server at the Luau when we were seated and that worked out fine.

Thanks!

Yes definitely mention it when you make the adr - Also if you call ahead to the chef they can make something special.

So they don't have a particular vegetarian meal that they give everyone who requests one? That may be fun! We would be bound by the chef's inspiration for that night!

What has anyone actual had as their vegetarian meal at HDDR?

We will eat very minimal amounts of meat but will not eat it directly off of bones. Our waiter noticed that we did not take a single piece of meat ( rib or chicken ) out of the bucket and asked us if there was a problem, we said no we knew we would not be eating , we knew we were paying just for the show. He brought us Mac n Cheese, pizza and chicken nuggets :worship: , We are planing on doing Pride of America this Oct and will ask for the kids menu again.

sorry I meant to say Spirit of Aloha Dinner show at the Poly, not sure how I came up with Pride of America:confused3

We did ask for a vegetarian meal at the Luau and they brought DD a glorious mound of rice surrounded by roasted veggies tossed in an asian sauce. She loved it! DS was served chicken nuggets and other "kiddie" things.

I went to the spirit of Aloha show with my husband, and I was not eating the food either. (I also knew I wouldnt be eating it, but we really wanted to see the show) The waiter noticed and was kind enough to bring me out a kids meal that had corn dogs, chicken nuggets, applesauce, pizza, and mac and cheese.

We attended the HDDR last Feb and received a vegetarian selection for my DH. My memory is so bad I can't quite remember... I think we had to call 24-48 hours in advance to order an alternate meal. I believe there were 2 choices I was given. I totally forgot what they were. I'm thinking the on DH got was a vegetable pasta dish.

I also had requested that DD5 have mac and cheese or some other kid meal. I also reminded the server of our requests when we sat down. We all had a great time.

Anyway there is an alternate choice or two so when you make your ADR just ask about the procedure.

I had the vegetarian meal last time I went to Hoop Dee Do. I think I was offered two choices, a pasta dish or a vegetable platter type dish. I went with the second one, and it was actually pretty good. I don't remember everything, but I do remember a baked potato and steamed vegetables (including asparagus) over rice. Not exactly worth the money just for the food, but was surpisingly good and the show is fun.

Could I specify margarita pizza for DD, do you think - she is a vegetarian teen and we would be using 2 TS DDP credits for her?

Also we are not huge fans of ribs and chicken wings either - we will eat a little chicken and corn but that's about it - would you consider paying 2 TS credits for us just for the show and a few drinks or should we spend our credits elsewhere?

personally, i think the show is worth the 2 credits, regardless of the food... the fact that our family really enjoys the food (btw, it's not chicken wings, it's whole pieces of chicken) is a major bonus! the salad is great, the bread is outstanding, the beans are delicious, the dessert is yummy, etc... and the beer/wine/sangria is unlimited ;)

as far as specifying what kind of pizza, likely not... when my children were littler and didn't eat that type of food, the server brought us some pizza and mac/cheese from the trail's end buffet next door... nothing special ordered, just average kids' buffet fare...

We've enjoyed the show in the past, but haven't been for six or seven years. I'm sure we'll have fun - and like I said, DH and DS will be totally pigging out! I just need a little something in my stomach before I eat DH's, DS's and my strawberry shortcake!

Thanks for all the help!

You are right - the fact that it's whole pieces of chicken is a major bonus to us and the standard kid's fare from the Trail's End buffet would be ideal for DD. I am now sold on the idea - also didn't realise that the late show had buses which took you right back to your resort (rather than the indirect route via MK on the boat) plus I know you get the Category 1 seating at the late show (which I presume is best?)

We had planned to watch the water pageant before the earlier show, but I guess we can watch that another night from another resort beach.

We won't eat meat on the bones (it grosses us out!) and we were always told to just call the HDDR a couple of days in advance and ask for alternative selections. We don't like the beans either, so they brought us out french fries and boneless chicken tenders. They were great about it, and our server didn't need reminded...he was on top of it! :thumbsup2
