We only got 2 luggage tags for our trip next week and want to take 3 bags. I called DME and they said I can just give my luggage tag for the extra bag to the staff at Magical Express when we arrive and they'll retrieve it and get it back to the hotel.

Has anyone else done this? It makes me a little nervous.

I'd be nervous too, and I'd expect that your 3rd bag would take a lot longer to arrive than the two that already had the yellow tags on it.

When bags have yellow tags, they never go to the baggage carousel - they are loaded onto a box truck from the plane and delivered to the resorts separate from the ME bus. It sounds like what they are saying is that the 3rd bag would be delivered to the baggage carousel but someone from DME would use your bag claim check to pick it up and have it brought to the box truck for delivery. For me, that would be too many changing hands to be comfortable.

When the yellow bag tags are not sent out or received in time, that backup procedure is followed, all of the time. I have had to give my bag claim check to the CM checking me in at DME, and there were not any issues receiving the bag at my resort, within the usual timeframe. If you have any concerns about a delay in delivery, just pack the least crucial items in that third bag.

I have given DME my checked bag claim ticket for an extra bag and it showed up in the room along with the tagged luggage with no issue. This was a few years ago so they have plenty of experience handling this situation. I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again if I had extra bags or didn’t receive my yellow tags in time.

People do that literally every day and I have never heard of anyone having a problem

Thanks! That all gives me some reassurance. Timing isn't an issue. We arrive around 10 and will head straight to a park after check-in. We'll just need it by bedtime.

As mentioned, DME has been doing this literally every day for 15 years. It is very common, and the procedure is even outlined on the letter that came with your yellow tags.

Anecdotal evidence is that folks who for one reason or another have some bags with yellow tags and others that don't have the tags, still seem to get all their bags delivered at the same time.

Thanks. Really I was trying to get an idea of how common it is and how reliable it is. This puts my mind at ease.

We used the Magical Express a few months ago, and we didn't have any Disney luggage tags. We called Disney and they told me to take a picture of the airline tag bar code with my phone so we had the info, and give the claim tag to the person at the ME desk when we arrived. Bags showed up in the room no problem.

I called today and asked for 2 extra luggage tags and the CM was more than happy to have them mailed to me! The trip is just about 3 weeks away.

Back in 2014 I called on a Saturday about needing additional tags for a trip we were leaving on the next Wednesday. The DME CM Port MDE on hold. When he came back on a minute later he told me I was in luck. I'd called before the FedEx deadline. He printed my extra tags while I was on the phone, put them in a FedEx envelope and put the envelope in the FedEx stack (I got the play by play ad he's doing all this). Tags did not arrive on Tuesday as he promised though. They arrived on Monday, having traveled from Florida to Oregon.

On our last trip (May 2019) I made a change to my reservation and got two packets. I received ME tags for the resort I was no longer staying at and received none in my packet for the correct resort. By the time I noticed, there was nothing I could do about it, so I retrieved my bags before heading to ME, as advised. I NEVER WANT TO DO THAT AGAIN! My luggage is from the 90's but still in good shape, but I only have one large upright pullman and the other is the old fashioned 4 wheels that like to go every direction, but the one you are pulling in. It was annoying, but we made it. Then, we got to AoA and had to drag that obnoxious thing all the way back to the Little Mermaid Rooms! I let DD take the upright pullman and I manhandled the crazy one. With online check in, we never really had an opportunity to ask for assistance, but in hindsight, I should have stood in line and asked for what I needed. I had to just keep my fussing and fuming inside my own head and resist the urge to set the crazy thing on fire! Note to self: learn how to pack light or buy a new suitcase before the next vacation! Thankfully, the trip home was a breeze.

If you are concerned or can't get a third tag, you can always collect your bag at baggage claim yourself and take it to the DME check-in. The bag will get stored under the DME bus and will accompany you to your resort. It will get unloaded at your resort. Bell services will hold the bag for you until you return from the parks. They may even deliver it to your room, once it's assigned, although there may be a fee for the delivery.

Not an actual fee, but its customary to tip anyone who handles your luggage - including the a RedCap at the airport, the bus driver, and Bell Services. The exception to that, of course, is that Disney tips Bell Services for bringing DME guests' luggage to the room.

The claim check method works.
