Not checking a bag with ME, will I save that much time?

Starting to think about packing. I am taking my first solo trip with DD, and I am thinking about just doing carry ons, as I can't carry a huge bag anyway.
Will I save that much time leaving airplane and heading to bus. Or would they be waiting for fellow passengers anyway?
Thanks in advance.....

I think you have it wrong. The great thing about ME is that you don't have to go to baggage claim. You always get off the plane and go straight to the bus. ME will claim your bag and bring it right to your Disney hotel.

So, pack away and they'll carry it for you!

OMG!!! Totally forgot! I don't usually use DME, so I'm not used to it.
I think I will take that larger bag.......
Thanks!!!

I used DME for the first time 2 weeks ago and it was great not having to go to baggage claim! When our room was ready, the bags were already there.

You only have to claim your bags if your flight arrives after 10:00pm.

The ideal solution:

A carry-on with fragile items, electronics, valuables, medications, anything you'll need right away, and anything you'd want to have in the first 24 hours if your checked bag is delayed by the airline.

A checked bag with everything else. It will be delivered to your room up to 3 hours after you check in at your resort, but often much sooner than that. Bell services is pre-tipped by DME, so you don't have to be in your room when your bag is delivered.

Sounds awesome! Thank you for the tips. I am thinking I may also put our swimsuits in my carry on.
I honestly forgot about the convenience of DME.
I am looking forward to it, especially since I have no DH to help with the luggage!

Are you sure you don't have to be in your room to get your bag through DME? We were told last December that we had to be in the room to get the bag, and was told April 2011 we had to wait for our room to be ready, and then be in the room for the bags to come.
DME is great because it is free, but in our experiences you always loose park time because of it.

You absolutely do not have to be in your room. That is the main beneift of using DME. You don't have to worry about the luggage at all. That's what the "magical" part of DME means. The "express" part is for the bus itself.:thumbsup2

Usually, when someone from bell services brings bags to a guest room, the guest must be in your room because that's when the bell person is tipped. So if you arrive by car or taxi, or if you transfer from one Disney resort to another, and you use bell services, you must be in your room.

DME works differently. Disney wants you out of your room having fun and spending money. Disney doesn't want you sitting on the end of your bed twiddling your thumbs for up to 4 hours after you check in. So Disney pays the bellman gratuity.

Here it is in writing (in a PDF file) from Disney:

Did you claim your own luggage at MCO and take it with you on the DME bus but then have Bell Services bring it to the room? That's the only scenario I can think of where you might be told to be in your room for luggage delivery even though you rode the DME bus.

If you let DME handle your bags for you (by putting the yellow DME tags on your baggage before checking your luggage at your home airport) you can check in to your resort and then immediately head off to a park or to dinner. Some time later your bags will be dropped off in your room. You do not have to be in the room if DME handles your bags from MCO to WDW.

Another possibility. The guest has a larger carryon bag. The bag was transported by the DME bus. The room isn't ready and they give the bag to bell services for storage. Under that circumstance the guest has to be in the room to accept delivery. Same thing if the guest takes a checked bag on the DME bus and the room isn't ready.

Otherwise the pp are correct. Yellow tagged DME bags are trucked from the airport to WDW and delivered to the guests room. The bell cap is tipped by Disney and the guest doesn't have to be in the room.
