We are only expecting 1-3" & it's not supposed to start until "evening rush hour". My youngest is on about the latest bus in the county & he's home by 4 pm. So I guess the transporation people have a Holdiay party to get to.

You gotta love it. My freshman year of college, the university closed down in an anticipation of a huge snowstorm. Never actually got any snow because the storm moved.

They decided to close the H.S.'s down here at noon. At that point, it had just started to snow.

They'll get out one hour early. My take on it is they want the school buses to be off the roads before it gets too nasty out there, and it's coming down pretty hard right now and starting to stick! We are in the 5-8 inches of snow range or as the weathermen keep saying "the bulls eye region."

I just heard that they've already cancelled school for tomorrow! What the heck? There isn't even any accumulation yet!

Oh well, better safe than sorry I guess!

Amazing! Which school district?

i am soooooooooooooo dreading my commute in tomorrow.

Even though we are only supposed to get 1-3" (which to true New Englanders, is NOTHING)...I can just see everyone attempting to drive in the first "rush hour snow storm" of the year...as it'll be in full swing by 8am tomorrow.

joy.

mom2boys--I thought Charles County (south of Waldorf) was expected to get 4-8 inches?? I'm in southeast Prince William County (directly across the river from Waldorf) and we are in the 4-8 inch band. It has been snowing since 12:30, but they did not dismiss our schools at all.

I'm in soutern New Castle county, Delaware and not a flake here!

I did leave work early today--before the first snowflake even fell. Last year, we had one of those mid-day snowstorms in D.C. It started at about 10:30 a.m. and was called a "clipper". Supposed to be fast moving and not much accumulation. By 1:00 p.m. it was sticking and looking fierce. So, I left work at one, only to be hit with absolute GRIDLOCK trying to get out of D.C. It took me one hour to turn around and go back to my office. I stayed until about 4:00 p.m., hit GRIDLOCK again, and didn't get home for another 3 hours. I said NEVER AGAIN. So, even though it isn't that cold today and I know nothing will stick, nothing is worth a 3-4 hour commute. I'm too old for this crap.

So, I left at 11:00, went to the mall, picked up a present for my dad, had some lunch, went to the grocery to get stuff to make cookies with in case I'm home with the kids tomorrow. You would not believe how many people were in the grocery store at noon. Do these people not have jobs???

If you guys get our 1-3 inches we just received, it is the very light fluffy stuff. But it is so cold out that it makes shoveling a pain. They should have an icon for a stiff back and neck from shoveling.

People go into survival mode. They feel they will be locked in their houses and they need bread and milk.

Are you in Frederick County? I couldn't believe it when they closed an hour early today. They're supposed to get even less than we are supposed to get here in Montgomery Co (and we're supposed to get very little). I was so happy that MCPS did not close early--very unlike them. They usually close if there is a hint of snow.

Oh, no, my son has a science experiment, which involves testing different brands of bread to see which ones mold faster. So I get to go to the store today to buy the bread. I'm going to feel like an idiot buying 4 loaves of bread and having it look like I'm in snow panic mode. :rotfl: He needs some from Giant and Safeway, so at least I only need to buy 2 loaves at each store. I'm not planning on buying milk at least.

Good luck. :teeth:

We're expecting about 2-5 inches, MAYBE up to 6 in some spots and the radio station's "Storm Track" is "on alert" and I'm supposed to stay tuned for emergency instructions and closings. Huh?? :confused3

I don't get the bread, milk and eggs....are they going to make french toast for the storm? If it really is as bad as they think it's going to be, aren't the lights going to go out and spoil the milk and eggs??

I admit though....I'm taking tomorrow off. This is mainly because I have no desire to increase my commute from 1.5 hours to 4 hours each way because of morons who can't drive in snow or morons who think that because they have 4WD they can do 70mph and then cause an accident. I'll just watch it all on the news while I sit on my couch in my pajamas with some hot chocolate. :goodvibes

Wow! We had 14 inches from 8 pm last night until 6 this am and we only had a late start...supposed to get another 10 today, 10 tonight and up to 8 tomorrow. NO cancellations yet!

Now that's funny. Good thing it's not a TP experiment. :rotfl:

BTW...it's snowing pretty hard here at my suburban Baltimore office. Amazingly, the kids' schools are still open in Carroll County. Don't worry, though, we're bound to be closed tomorrow.
