Not a flake but schools are dismissing early

Are you in Frederick County? I couldn't believe it when they closed an hour early today. They're supposed to get even less than we are supposed to get here in Montgomery Co (and we're supposed to get very little). I was so happy that MCPS did not close early--very unlike them. They usually close if there is a hint of snow.
Yep Frederick County. My family lives in Charles county - it is 75 miles from my door to PineField. There are no schools closing early between here & Charles county. They will wait until 6a.m. to announce any delays or closings for tomorrow.

I heard about the early closing at the Walmart - put a damper on many a Mom's shopping trip.

They will probably cancel school tomorrow as well.....we don't have any snow as of yet in Cecil CO and the schools have not canceled

I HATE that they wait so long. I am out the door (with my kids) at 5:45 a.m. DD's bus picks up at 6:30 (at an "alternate" bus stop). My biggest pet peeve is that they don't call it sooner. Lots of people here in my county leave for work and school well before 6:00 a.m. I will be almost to her friend's house and I will have to turn around and go home.

The county website says they make the announcement at 5:30 a.m., but I have not seen it show up any earlier than a little before 6:00 a.m.

Now that's funny. Good thing it's not a TP experiment. :rotfl:

BTW...it's snowing pretty hard here at my suburban Baltimore office. Amazingly, the kids' schools are still open in Carroll County. Don't worry, though, we're bound to be closed tomorrow.

We went to the stores and got the bread. On our way there I told my son about how people tend to buy break and milk when it's going to snow, so we were laughing in the store picking out all the white bread (yuck...). When pulling into Giant someone was walking to their car with a big package of tp, eggs and who knows what else in the bag. I got a good laugh out of that (I do laugh easily :rotfl: ). We got one loaf of bread at Giant, and then went to Safeway where we got 3 more loaves of white bread, french bread for dinner, and potato bread that my 12 yo likes. We looked like we were on a bread buying frenzy! :rotfl2:

Glad that MCPS didn't close early and I hope they don't close tomorrow. My new van just came in today (in Hagerstown) and I want the weather to clear so I can go pick it up!

I hope that if they delay they will announce it tonight so we don't have to wake up early to find it out. That's annoying--sometimes it can't be helped when the snow comes overnight, but if it's already on the ground the evening before they can decide then and announce it.

I don't get the bread, milk and eggs....are they going to make french toast for the storm? If it really is as bad as they think it's going to be, aren't the lights going to go out and spoil the milk and eggs??

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I hear you about teh commute though! I have a 30 mile/about 30 min commute (in good weather.) one time, during a horrific ice storm, it took me 1.5 hours to go 5 miles.

it just wasn't worth it. I turned around in the grocery store parking lot (I did stop in for some food as I was going to go shopping that night anyway) and drove home. it took me 45 mintues to get back home. NUTS!

knock on wood..tomorrow shouldn't be TOO bad. but ya never know!

You gotta love the DC area Nothing like a good panic for us city folk!!!! Run to Giant and Safeway!! It just better be fine on thursday when we fly to WDW! :cool1:

That's ok. Last year, right after Hurricane Ivan I think it was, we had horrible flooding. My town never floods and we had like 6 inches of water on some roads. Anybody in the Pittsburgh area knows what I'm talking about. Our school gets out at 215 every day. The day of the flood, we got an early dismissal. WOOOOOHOOOOO!!! That's great, right? NOO. We got out of school at 214. Most of the teachers dismissed us like 5 minutes earlier than they were supposed to, but the official dismissal was 214. That is 1 minute. Big deal. LOL. :rotfl2:

im in nj and last i heard were supposed to get 3-6 inches....i am really hoping they cancel classes at my college because i have a 45 minute commute, and like others said, i hate making it longer because people dont know how to drive in the snow..i cant skip either since next week is finals! ahhhh

We were supposed to have 6-10 inches and we have more like 1-3! It is still snowing, but not much and I don't think it stuck to the roads much at all. However, the road leading up to our house could be a different story. We live on a private road on top of a mountain and it has a really nasty curve in it that always get slick before anything else. I am hoping our neighbor has been out clearing it. I'm also hoping I can get into work on time tomorrow morning...one co-worker is out b/c of surgery and the other has a meeting 1st thing, so guess who has to be here at 8am to answer the phones??!!

They called off school before it started today, they might have been o.k. going, but no reason to take chances w/ the kids and buses. I think they might be 2 hours late tomorrow. (maybe)

Gotta go clean my car off now!

Wow! We had 14 inches from 8 pm last night until 6 this am and we only had a late start...supposed to get another 10 today, 10 tonight and up to 8 tomorrow. NO cancellations yet!

Heck, we don't even get late starts for 14 inches of snow. :(
