Nory Report III: In the Third Person! After 3 Years, the Final Update! NEW 2/6

First off, congratulations on your job! That's awesome.

Now I'm so mad that I gave in and we didn't go to LTT for lunch! The ooey gooey goodness looks just totally awesome!

I am behind again catching up on your last post Nory. You got some very nice pictures of a relatively dimly lit restaurant. I am impressed with your pre-DSLR camera (of course as well as the person controlling it).

Though it is a great picture of your lunch, the Tri-Corner Sandwich is just not doing it for me. That focaccia bread doe not look as appealing to me as I would have thought. I am thinking Columbia Harbor house is still the lunch choice for me in Liberty Square. I love the Anchors Aweigh Sandwich there!! Oh, I can see the draw to get your hands on the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake but that is sadly off limits to me due to dietary restrictions. Sigh....

Looking forward to some ride action coming up....

I can't believe I just found this TR! Found it yesterday and am now caught up.

First, congrats on your job! Love, love, love your photos. I think I told you on your last TR that because of your pics I went out and got the Sony and I absolutely love it. Now I just need to plan a trip to use it again! We are tentatively planning a CA trip next summer so I cannot wait to see your photos from Disneyland. Have a fabulous time .

Thanks too for all the pics from Tom Sawyer Island. We haven't been over there in about 12 years and at that time we were chasing two toddlers so it's all just a blur. I vow that next trip we are going over there just to explore and relax!

Am loving the TR and the book sounds great...can't wait to read it .

I can't believe that I'm going to be in DL in just a few days! I'm woefully unprepared.

I was at TSI with my 3-year-old niece last month, and it was definitely a different experience! Not much time for looking around, that's for sure -- too busy helping her negotiate all the stairs!

In the original Peter Pan ride at Disneyland in 1955, riders were meant to be Peter Pan, not to see him. Apparently, this didn't go over all that well. But those have always been the parts of the ride Nory loved most, ever since she was a little girl -- the moments when she's flying over the twinkling lights of London, or the green mountains, or the mermaid lake -- the parts without any Disney characters to distract her from her imagination. And she still feels that way: She would be happy if the ride were only London, for three whole minutes.

Of course, she likes it the way it is, too, and she had a lovely trip through Neverland. Part of her novel features a Peter Pan-like boy, and she was hoping to be inspired. But nothing struck her. Not yet, anyway.

She had a little time to kill before she could use her Splash Mountain fastpass, so she walked through the castle. On past trips she'd always rushed through, anxious to avoid the inevitable people holding up crowds as they photographed their children from as far away as humanly possible. This time, she lingered, and it paid off. After a moment, there was no one in there but her. She could almost believe it was her castle. Or, at least, that she worked there as a scullery maid.

I wish I were eating at Cinderella's Royal Table, so I could really see the inside! she thought. She'd tried and tried for the elusive reservation, with no luck. Maybe next time.

The murals were more beautiful than she remembered, with their vivid colors and shimmering gold tiles (real gold!).

After spending a few beautiful solitary minutes in Cinderella's domain, Nory left the fantastical world of Fantasyland for her prearranged date with Brer Rabbit, Brer Bear, Brer Fox, etc.

I think the deal with Peter Pan's Flight has happened on many rides. I know Snow White's Scary Adventures was the same way. When they built that ride, it was meant for you, the rider to be Snow White. People just get upset about the main character not being present in the ride experience. :/ I personally like it they have those moments with characters to see them in their natural habitat, though it's cool to feel like them. I love your pictures of the castle murals, they are beautiful! And I think I would have the exact same reasoning to make an ADR for Cinderella's Royal Table, I want to see what it looks like inside. Can't wait to hear about your adventure to find your laughin' place! Update soon!

Yay, Nory made it onto an actual ride! And Peter Pan is fabulous, it's my childhood favorite actually. I love the scene over London as well, it feels very magical.

Fantastic mural shots too! But, (blush!) I'm one of those crazy parents who makes their kids stand in front of the mural while I stand practically inside CRT to snap the picture! I wait for a gap in the crowds to do so though.

Scullery maid? Not such an exciting job I'd imagine. Unless you enjoy scrubbing dishes and chamber pots.

Wow, no matter how long I ever linger (which really, isn't that long, I'm quite impatient), the crowd never clears out from in front of the murals, let alone from the entire corridor! How fun to be able to savor that moment.

Scullery maid? Nah. I would totally go with Keeper of the Wardrobe.

Great shots of the murals. I never even knew we were there until the photographer took us there for our wedding shoot. Usually there are so many people you can't even move. How lucky to have a few solitary moments. It really does make it feel like your castle. If you can ever get into the "waiting" room for CRT when it is nearly empty, that's an awesome space too! When we were there by ourselves, it felt like a sitting room in our castle

Ok, I'm going to have to go against the grain here, and say that my favorite scene is the one over the Lagoon. I always have to think that for a brief moment in time I'm one of the mermaids. And in general, PP is sort of so-so. But I DO love those murals! Never seems like I can get enough pictures of them.

I did finally make it to CRT on my solo January trip, and it was great! I was worried it would be totally weird solo, but it was super fun.

I think It's a Small World slightly beat it out for me when I was little. Just because it was so much longer than PP. I felt like I got more bang out of my line-waiting buck for it.

I'm sure you know this but just in case I better tell you. when you go to DL don't forget to go to Sleeping Beauty Castle Walk through. It's kinda hard to find, walk thru the castle then look for the entrance to your left. It's not well marked. And don't forget to open all the door inside!

I agree with Nory, I'd love to be in London for 3 minutes, it is by far my favorite part of the ride. I hope that Nory's heroine finds harbor in a cave...but no injun joe. I love TSI and was reminded how very very much I do, by two little boys I was afeared (channeling my inner Tom) were too old.

As a first time semi solo triper, I can relate to Nory's random conversations with strangers, truly some of the most magical moments of my recent trip.

I like Nory's take on POR, it might mirror some of my own impressions but Nory would have to visit the east/west TR to see what those might be.

I'm back! From a day in DL, a long weekend in wedding-shower land, and an even longer week in catching-up-at-work land. Whew.

Disneyland was WEIRD. Not bad, of course, and I'm certainly happy I finally saw it, but it was still W-E-I-R-D. I took a bunch of pictures and notes, and am hoping to sneak a DL mini-TR up at some point, though who knows when!

I'll also get an update up here in the next day or two. Plus I have to begin the long process of catching up on all your TRs that I'm following! Could someone give me an extra five or so hours in each day, please?

I did go through the castle -- it was really neat! I didn't open any doors inside, though...there were too many people around (bored teenagers, for the most part, sadly) most of the time. But I still really enjoyed it!
