Northern Sights and Mickey's MAGICal Delights-1st Baltic Cruise-June 12,2010-Pt 2

Well, I thought I was one of the last to buy air this last Monday. Last year the whole family went to Paris for vacation. It was around $800pp (and we bought them in May!).

The lowest I could get for this cruise was about $1400. Amazing! We are flying into Paris for a two day visit with my sisterinlaw. I got my Eurostar tickets in the mail yesterday. We'll come back home via London.

I think that's pretty close to what we ended up paying as well, maybe a little bit less. You can get some pretty good deals if you fly out of JFK, you just have to watch for them, but you'll also have to deal with the tarmac repaving and that could cause some delays. That was why we chose to avoid JFK.

I have been told by a friend who has family in France that the airfares generally do not drop for travel in Europe once you get into April. There is a lot of vacation travel going on when we are doing our cruise so airfares don't seem to drop. I booked in Feb. because of this my ds and her husband did not book until 3 weeks ago and their fare was $300 more for the two of them than us. ugh!:confused3
I plan on booking in the next couple of weeks.

I've been watching the fares pretty much daily and, while there is day-to-day fluctuations, they haven't really changed much at all in the last several months. The AA fares are currently running a little less than the USAir ones were a few months ago.

If they start to really trend upward, I'll make the purchase sooner, rather than later.

The flights that are the current contenders are transferring in Miami on the outbound and are running and $1,100 each for Cathy and myself and then a little over $100 for Sarah.

We'll see what happens...

We were $998 out of Denver , Got them good while back, Delta to heathrow,

I hope the volcano stops soon, cause I don,t know where I am gonna go when the volcano blows...

Trip insurance wight have been a very good thing, probably a volcano clause you Ned an electronic microscope to read, we will see,

I just got the most groovy duct tape ever created, almost too nice to use....thanks Debbie

I leave in the morning for 2+ weeks in Mexico and I can't wait! Getting away from reality is always nice. I hope someone takes notes for me while I'm gone. May is very busy for me and I might not be able to catch up here!!!

OMG! You are going to Mexico for 2 weeks and THEN a 3 week vacation in Europe!!!???!!! Are you spending all your children's inheritance now?

We also have some strong suction cups, the type with a leaver to create a vacuum, with hooks. These we attach to the wall to hang lanyards, etc. on.
Bill

We actually use them at home, too , in the shower. I also use them to hang my wreaths on the front door of my house.

I bought some cool clothespins with hanger tops through a catalog recently. I think they will come in handy to hang wet things on the shower curtain bar.

I have a question please? How warm/ cool is it on the ship? When we went before it was in the Med and it was lovely in doors to escape the heat (we don't do heat lol). But if its chilly outside which I guess it might be at times especially when we're at sea, how will it feel inside? Will it be like going into a shop with the air con on too cold so you need a jumper? I'm starting to think about my packing lists :-)

Thanks
Kit

I would say bring a coat- jacket just in case. I know when went to med it was so nice & warm. I hope this will be the same again, but you can't always count on the weather being right.
Bot was thinking about trying to get things packed also. Hate the thougth so I don't over pack!!! But always do.
Love all the packing ideas keep them coming!!
Colette

We were on the Med cruise in 2007 also but we did do a Disney Christmas cruise. It did get cold outside in the evenings but the ship was nice and warm inside. I would bring a sweater or wrap to wear to dinner or show but in general I'd said you'll feel comfortable. I'm bringing a light jacket/coat that I can wear if it's cool or rains plus a sweater that I could wear to dinner. I'm really trying to cut down on what I am packing and wash clothes a couple times. With all the weight restrictions and fees on baggage on planes I want to leave enough space to bring home goodies! :goodvibes

AA just dropped their fares a little bit more.

Hearing all this talk about the flights into London being cancelled and I'm getting a little worried. We had fully intended to get travel insurance on our own, but with planning the 2 weddings, it just totally slipped my mind. Does anyone know if it's still possible to get still get it? And would volcanic ash be covered?

Just went to Travel Guard site and one can still purchase. I have not looked at our policy to see what is covered. We went with Travel Guard as we are on DVC points. I do recall that with a DVC point usage one must get the insurance right after booking.

I just checked insuremytrip.com (first one that came up on google) and plugged our trip details in. They came back with quite a long list of companies that would happily take my money.

Regarding trip insurance, I just read a note that suggested that you would have to buy the insurance prior to the incident that delayed you. That may mean that insurance may have needed to be purchased prior to the initial eruption of this volcano on the 13th.

Thanks guys.....I'm gonna get on that right away. I also use insuremy trip.com. Hopefully, one of the places will have a phone number so I can specifically ask about the volcanoes.

Please let us know what they tell you.

OK, got the travel insurance taken care of. Apparently you can purchase it right up to the day before you leave, but it only covers any pre-existing medical conditions if you purchase it before the final payment. Luckily, that is not an issue for us because we have no pre-existing conditions and take no medications.
Regarding the volcano....THIS eruption will not be covered because it took place before we purchased our policy. If for some reason, the flights don't resume before our trip, we would lose everything. If everything gets back to normal and a NEW eruption causes another set of cancellations, then we WILL be covered. That seemed fair, so I purchased it. One less thing to worry about......
