Looking for private car hire to take us from Gatwick Airport to Dover and then return after the cruise. Some had mentioned airportcars.com, but I would like to compare prices with others companies. Any others you have used before?
Thanks,
Heidi

We used this company back in 2007: http://www.simplyairports.co.uk/

Their prices seemed fair and they were on time. No complaints. We are not using them this time because in the sprit of saving money...and hopefully not losing my mind...we are going to take the train from London to Dover.

Good Morning Cruisers!

Emily - I am glad to hear this!!! We are anxiously awaiting pictures!! I am sure you are more anxiously awaiting his arrival:goodvibes

Welcome to the new cruisers!!!

Easter was fairly nice here - but because of a nasty cold, I did not go outside for more than a few minutes. I have taken today off of work, it is supposed to be nice today also - I may try to get out for a short dog walk to build my stamina back up. Tomorrow is rain and snow!

Have a great week all!

We are definitely excited and I will definitely have plenty of pictures up Friday night after we get him home. We were hoping to bring him home yesterday, but Friday morning he and his brothers are going for their final checkup and to be microchiped. After that he'll be ready to come to his new home.:woohoo:

Good Morning Cruisers!

I have had the suitcases out on the "packing room" bed for quite a while now, some things are already packed, others our hanging in that closet - it is mostly my stuff - Scott's stuff will be packed later.

Happy Easter to All!

Have a great week!

Lynn-you are just an overachiever! :rotfl:

I still don't have my bags out for the April 15th on the Wonder for Jamie's 18th birthday. Just a little 3 night cruise, but for her annual mother/daughter birthday trip, she wanted to be on the ship, in Palo's eating her birthday dinner, on her actual birthday April 16th!

She has this Palo's thing all figured out already! We train them well, don't we.....

Hi Heidi,

I'm using http://silverlinetravel.co.uk/. Their quote for a Volkswagon Caravelle was £95.00 each way. I wanted the minivan as well - my wife and daughter don't always pack lightly.... We are staying for 2 nights before the cruise at the Hilton Gatwick and 1 night after the cruise there too.

We found their prices to be the best of who we priced.

Welcome to everybody new! Colette, my daughter Lauren will be on this cruise. She's also 15 so I'm sure that she'd love to have new friends too....

I keep putting off booking our flights in a desperate hope that the fares will fall. They've gone down about $25 each in the last week or so, but I am starting to get mighty nervous. One more week and we'll be within the 60 day window. I doubt that I'll wait any longer than that.

You and me both! I've been watching the fares drop a little too, but wanted to time it right to get a great fare (instead of using frequent flier mileage). So, I am going to make the move in the next couple of days and book my flights. We are within the 60 day window I think, flying out on June 5th, so I think I'll just go ahead and book now!

Well either way it is still nice knowing that their is another family traveling from our neck of the woods. :hippie: Looking forward to meeting all of you.

Yes I agree! And as DS18 says, this trip will be epoch!! DH retired this year and he & I are on the eastern TA this week, then after a bit in Europe, will be back & forth 'across the pond'............ so after all the running around the globe I expect some 'epoch' jet lag as well!! :upsidedow

Man, this has become the slooooooooooowest disboard! Guess everyone has their excursions, pre and post bookings, airfare, packing ideas. What will we do with ourselves for the next 2 months??

(I'm still hoping to get a call regarding an upgrade--I'm clinging to that!)

Don't know what everybody else's excuse is but I'm in the midst of planning 2 weddings....one 10 days before we leave and one 6weeks after we return! Unfortunately, the boards have been placed on the back burner. :sad2:

I just read a promo for this cruise & the following one for kids sailing free. You may get that upgrade if they are doing that kind of discount??

I'm not prepared for this cruise myself, but packing for the eastern TA...what was I thinking???!!!

My fingers are crossed!!!!

Finally a clear day here but kinda cool!

We are slowing down aren't we? Well anyway, I was reading other threads and trying to get an idea of items that I should take and someone mentioned travel extension cord, is this a regular extension cord? Also the over the door shoe thingy, what is that?

Also, I think I'm going to call DCL and see if I can find out what size table we are going to be sitting at. Are there any "early" dinners that want to share a table with us? Don't know if it will work but thought I would ask just in case.

I feel better that I was able to get the guys to answer the questions for the Secret Mickey exchange and I sent them to MJ girl. One less thing to think about. I'm still worried about getting from Dover to our hotel in London but my husband keeps insisting we can handle it via train and tube. I'm wondering about making reservations on the train out of Dover. Anyone else taking the train out?

When is the next shore excursion date? Day 60 or something? Will be interesting to see what happens!

Okay, gotta go bug the husband again about the luggage on the train:rotfl2:

Not sure about a travel extension cord... but I definately take an extension cord and a strip. Too many things to plug in and the only outlet is behind the TV. (Hope they fix this on the Dream!) I know that CPAP users will be happy if there was one by the bed.

The over the door shoe holder is a great item, especially if you have more than 2 people or do not have a split bath. It is a hanging thing that you would normally put shoes in.. maybe 4 wide... 6 long pockets that you hang over the door. I have used it for those things that just don't fit on the shelf in the bathroom. Deoderant, brush, sunscreen, etc. I now have a toiletry bag that folds out and holds many of these things, so I don't use one anymore.

Sorry I have not updated the page with the new folks, I will do that on Wednesday night.

I got a new toy! Bought a Dell netbook. :surfweb: It is going to be great to carry along on trips rather than the laptop.

Only 23 more days till a short trip to WDW!

We decided to just use DCL transportation from the airport to Dover and back. I forget how much it was, but for the 2 of us it was not that bad. Pretty comparable to others and very easy!

The hotel we are staying at is next to the airport and there is a bus that is free to get to the terminal, so that is our plan! Just have to call DCL about where and when to meet.

Debbie

We are flying in the day prior and using Disney transfers too. We are staying that the Park Plaza Westminster which is brand new so it should be nice. It is a DCL hotel so there will be a desk set up for questions and such. I am crossing my fingers everything will go smoothly and this will be a fantastic vacation. By the way, my DH and I were looking that google map and it seems like it's not a bad walk across the Westminter bridge to Big Ben and such. Has anyone ever done this? I'm looking forward to seeing London.

Marianne... Definitely bring a power bar. You will need it to charge your camera battery and to plug in your laptop (if bringing one) The one plug is not enough! I'm taking a private car to Dover, but DCL transfers on the way back. Using Silverline like some others on this board.
