I've heard you can order name brand furniture from a furniture outlet type deal in North Carolina. It takes a couple of months to get the furniture, but you save a bundle of money. Have any of you tried it? And what is the website or phone number?
Thanks!

FurnitureLand South 336-841-4328.

If you are ever on Route 85 Business South going thru Greensboro/High Point, NC, you must stop herte....This place is HUGE!!!!

We have purchased lots of furniture here.

We have done this before. It worked will. My wife was in North Carolina this summer and stopped by the stores There are some great deals at these stores.

My sister does this all the time when buying all her furniture. She has a huge catalog with all these distributors listed in it.

We did it once to get a matching dresser for the kids set. It was MUCH cheaper...even considering the shipping charge.

A couple years ago, there was a big "truck" parked at FIL's house when we were there and they were from NC selling the furniture out of the truck.....we got a beautiful curio cabinet for, I think, about 500.....I guess trucks come around every now and then like that....I thought that was kinda weird.

The place I'm thinking of all you have to do is call them with the model number and brand and then they ship it to you in a moving van. There's a dining room set I want and if I could save some money I'd probably get it sooner and have a happier dh!;)

We just bought our bedroom furniture through N. C. We had a wonderful experience. We called several outlets and were quoted the price plus shipping. We bought from Stevens because they gave us the best deal. We actually got the furniture 4 weeks early!

So how do you get a hold of a catalog to find out model #'s ...or are they on the web?....I really need some furniture!...

There are HUNDREDS of places in North Carolina where you can order furniture at a huge discount and have it delivered to your home. When we got good-quality bedroom furniture (Councill), I called the factory and asked for a list of places that sold it. I got a variance in price for the six pieces of more than $2,000. Ordered it from a place about 150 miles from my house. Last year, we bought an entertainment center, bookcases, etc., for the family room. We chose what we wanted at a store in the mountains, then I went on line and found other places that carried the brand -- Hooker. Saved about $500 over the price at the first store (which we had thought was good!) and got it from a store which looks like an absolute dump about 15 minutes from my house.

If you are buying namebrand furniture, you can likely find retailers on the company's website. Hickory and High Point are the furniture centers (Chamber of Commerces there can give you lots of info.), but we've actually gotten better prices on the pieces we wanted elsewhere.

An important thing to remember is that stores do not discount all brands by the same amount. Most usually have a few brands that they work really closely with -- they might do a 50% discount on those and only 30 or 40% on other brands. So, if you're buying a lot of furniture, you may not get the best prices on every thing from the same retailer.

Another important thing to remember is that the "retail price" of furniture generally represents a 200% markup, so there'a a lot of room for discounting.

Good luck.

tar heel,
My end tables and entertainment center are "Hooker" also! :)

I got the phone numbers from "Southern Living" magazine. I went to the furniture store and got the prices & model #'s. The NC prices beat the store prices by SO, SO much.
BUT, then I went back to the furniture store and said that I could order these pieces of furniture through NC for such and such price. If I order all 3 from you, will you match their price? And you what? They did! :) I did have to pay some TN sales tax (I believe) but it was worth it to me because the store backed me up on the furniture just like a regular store guarentee. :)

I did buy a sofa and loveseat from NC and had it shipped to me though. That worked out fine. However, I liked the store matching the price better. :)
Good luck!!

I drove down there to get a quote on some Thomasville furniture at one of the few stores that carried it. Good price. Then I saw an ad in the paper for a store in Fredricksburg saying "north carolina prices". Yep, same price, they deliver, so I didn't have to deal with a shipping company. I've bought all my furniture since from the same sales person. Never met her in my life, we just talk on the phone!

So, you never know. But some stores won't quote you unless you've been there in person within the last 90 days.
