It did make some difference. It loads slower, and larger people have a hard time getting in and out. My legs were pinned to my throat.

It looks like a tight fit in there,I remember riding it back when it was just one long bench with grips on the side,then they put in the seatback dividers and it definitely felt tighter but not that bad but now with lapbars it's definitely more confining!

Ack this is not good. I will be going there in two weeks. Wonder if I will still fit. I'm 6'0 and about 254. I wear a 1x to 2x shirt usually and waist is 38in. Ripsaw is my favorite ride there. I can still wear the clothes I word last time I was there but am about 20 pounds heavier. Anyone think one way or the other if I will have a problem?

I love the idea of the lap bars. A couple of times in the past I rode it and the lack of the bar scared me. Now, I'm looking forward to riding it again.

I am a little heavier than you, and I had little problem...it sucked, but I fit.
The reason for the change was that people kept getting out at the top of the lift, also people light enough would rise out of their seats and get injured when they slammed back down.

It's been 5 years since I rode this ride. I don't understand why it needs restraint bars when so many other rides like it do not. Kings Island has a boat ride which sends me up off the seat every time and it still has no lap bars. Why? Is this more intense?

it has quite a steep angle drop compared to other flume rides.

I hate to say this, but I like the lapbar idea, I've felt quite uncomfortable on the drop before, not much to hold onto

I didn't go on this but my youndest DD did and my 2 grand children 10 and 6. My DGS came off crying because he thought he was going to fall out..I understand the concerns but I am thinking there is a good reason they put in lap bars and hope no one was seriously hurt..

Well, personally, I'm glad that they put lap bars!!! I'm not skinny or small by any means, but last time I rode it, I was almost completely lifted from my seat and then fell hard back down. It was very painful and it hurt for days. My husband also felt like he was going to fall. We were NOT distracted or careless, and we were following all safety precautions, but still felt insecure in this ride. So, if it has already been a safety concern, I think it's much better that they're there, to protect us and let us enjoy the ride without worrying.

Haha, so I saw this thread, then immidiately hoped in my car and drove over to check them out. I live 10 min. away. I also have no life.

Anywho, the bars are all manually controlled via levers and buttons on the logs themselves, so there is no contraptions within the ride track to lock or unlock lapbars, which I though was interesting.

Also, if you've ever been on, you'll notice that that they load 3 logs at a time. It used to be, once everyone was seated then the logs dispatch. Now, there is a TM stationed at every log to check the bars.

The bars do make you feel safer, but it is going to be a tight squeeze for the bigger folks. Also, getting out is a big harder, as there was a 4 boat backup at unload, as opposed to none when I usually ride.

Also, the amount of TM's staffed in the station was crazy. It used to be a person at the dispatch panel, a grouper, and a merger. Now there's those 3 still, with 3 more for each of the 3 logs.

Their capacity is also going to be a nightmare. We waited 20 minutes, and we were in the room with the talking heads.

In the end, it will probably be better, to prevent jumpers (people getting out) and people complaining of not feeling secure. I talked to a Lead, and he said they had 1 jumper the first day in operation with the bars, and had none since.

I think it's pretty lame that in order to keep people from getting out of a moving ride vehicle, we have to literally harness them in.
