I've been resisting the eReader craze for a while now, but I think this one just might have me hooked. Anyone else interested in this?

I'm a little hesitant, mainly because it's so new. Kindle and Sony Reader are already tested technology and are probably pretty stable right now. Is this nook going to be as stable when it first comes out? I'd hate to buy this only to have the price lower drastically in 6 months and/or a way better version come out.

I've been looking at these e-readers a little bit lately and this is intriguing. It has a few features that the Kindle doesn't have, and just about all of the features it does have. But, I'm with you, I don't want to buy it and then have the price drop as soon as I do.

I did find it interesting that the books appear to be cheaper than Amazon. I looked up a new release that I would be interested in and it is only $9.99 for B&N, but Amazon had it for $15.37. Also, I liked that it supports books from the e library, which Kindle does not. May need to keep my eye on this.

Yes, you have a point about the prices. I looked up most of my favorite authors and saw that the books were less than $9.99 each. It looks like we get to use our member discount on ebooks!

I'll be interested to see how consumers like the combination touch/Eink screen. I already have an Iphone so the concept of the cover art flashing up on a touch screen is not new to me. I use my Iphone in a pinch but honestly I hate the smudgy fingerprints (OCD, anyone?) so the thought of having to constantly polish away fingerprints on my ereader would bother me a little.

Also, I don't lend books - well, rarely, and only to one or two friends. I will be interested to see this "lend" feature up close. It will be a very small population who can take advantage of it, if the loan comes with an expiration date. Only those people who have another Nook or one of the compatible devices AND can read and finish the book within the time period. It's not really that flexible a feature when it comes right down to it.

I am glad to see the ebook world moving forward, though. But I'll stick with my Kindle DX for now!!

I'm interested in seeing it, I'm kind of confused about the book organization thing. I have over 300 books on my Kindle now. If I built up that many on a Nook (the name totally cracks me up) and had to scroll thru all those icons 5 at a time to find the exact I was looking for -- it could take forever to find the book I was looking for. I really like the user changeable batter and the SD card slot though. Amazon never should have removed those from the Kindle.

I'm confused about the Library access too. The Nook says it supports ePUb, but doesn't say whether it can handle DRM'd ePub ie Adobe Digital Editions. All the other readers can work with Overdrive make big deal about it and B&N has been silent, so I wonder if it will support library books?

Watch the prices carefully. Nearly all the stores (Amazon, B&N, Sony, BooksonBoard etc) will drop the bestsellers to $9.99 within a day or two of each other. I've been price watching for a couple of months now Amazon vs Barnes and Noble for the actual books I buy and Amazon is consistently cheaper. I think it just really depends on what books you specifically are buying.

I have been going back and forth on a reader myself and this one REALLY has me intrigued. Once they release at the end of November, you will be able to try them out at your local B&N. I like the fact that it is running the Android OS from Google - you will see about 50 phones in the very near future running Android - which means that this or future versions of the device will be updateable with new features.

I think this one is going to knock the Kindle 2 on it hind end.

I was looking at it this morning (got the email...). I have been resisting too, but this one is tempting because the book prices are so much cheaper. I did download the B&N ereader on my iphone. Going to try that first, maybe that will be good enough for me. You get a few free books to try it with.

I got the email for the Nook yesterday and I know I want an ereader for Xmas. I wanted the Kindle last year but didn't get it. I will get one this year...but now I have too many choices!

I spent some time on the Barnes and Noble page looking up prices for my most recent Kindle purchases. So far -- I'm finding that Amazon is consistently beating Barnes and Noble based on what I read. I left off a few new releases that were $9.99 at both stores (ie the Lost Symbol).

I'm asking hubby for an e reader for Christmas this year and I've been going back and forth between the Kindle and Sony now I have to seriously consider the Nook - it does look really cool. I'm anxious to see how everyone likes it and I like the fact that I will be able to go check it out at B & N store.

Don't rush.

The iRex reader will be coming out before the end of November, too, and it will also have a lot of these features, but it's a bit larger, with an 8-inch screen. It is going to be marketed through BestBuy, and it has a much higher price-point out of the box. However, I suspect that when both of these actually hit brick and mortar stores a price war will begin.

Both the iRex and the Nook (and the Sony) have operating systems that are hackable, so there will be lots of folks cooking up new third-party applications for them. Just wait a bit -- this is about to get very interesting.

On the Nook:

The Nook does look very promising. I particularly like the WiFi feature with the ability to browse full length books at Barnes and Noble. I would wait until you can get your hands on one at the upcoming kiosks at B&N and until the new Sony reader comes out presumably in December with wireless download capability. The e-reader market is going to get much more crowded before Xmas.

One of the reasons I've been resisting is that I don't think it'll save me much money and might actually cost me way more. We love going to B&N on the weekends and bring home books. I can't see us stopping that habit any time soon.

Sorry if this isn't the right place for my post but I've recently been trying to find info and answers about these ereaders and there is no better place than the Dis right? What are the major differences between Kindle and Nook? Up until yesterday I didn't even know there were other options besides the Kindle. Would all of you who own one recommend that model? How would I know if I can use the wireless access in my area (Monterey Bay, CA)? I saw on there website that Kindle 2 is international, we are taking a trip to Eastern Europe in the spring will I be able to use it there? I would love some feedback if any of you would like to PM me. I really, REALLY want one!

I went to B&N this weekend and picked up a booklet on the nook.
I have a question. On all of the screen shots and everything I have seen online shows the color book fronts on the bottom of the screen. Do you know if that is always there? It is very annoying looking.
My Dad had the Kindle and I am going to check out the nook at a local university that has one to try to decide between the 2.

The Kindle can. It's a basic web browser and you wouldn't want it to be your only option, but it does function as a web browser, not just a link to the Kindle store.
