Did you ever hear a character talk that wasn’t supposed to? We were at a character breakfast and this grandmother and her granddaughter kept following Dopey from table to table to get an autograph. Dopey would turn around and point back to her table again and again. Finally he turned around and pointed emphatically until they got the hint. And they call him Dopey? He showed great restraint and didn’t talk. Just wondered if anyone ever heard a slip-up.

Hi BriarRabbit - and Welcome to the DIS!!! :)

We have been to WDW 6 times and I have yet to hear a non-speaking character slip. I would imagine if that were to happen (unless there was an emergency) that there would be some Disney Discipline! :teeth:

Never but I've seen a few sign plus gesturing can speak volumes. You don't need a voice to be albe to speak.

I think it would shock me hugely if one was to speak, lol. I almost act like they are real and can't speak, lol.

Once. Tigger playfully grabbed a girl's stuffed animal at Chef Mickey's and said "Mine!" I was shocked, because I'd never seen a "fur" character speak before!

We had a face character break character! It was about a month ago at Cinderella's Breakfast and it was Cinderella!! Talked about being shocked! I didn't say anything though and I don't think that my dd noticed. Thank goodness!

Hes,they can talk, but they are 'in character' also. I was able to see the difference in the 'wig room' in the Utilidor area on a tour. Belle came in for an adjusment to her wig and was constantly going in and out of character, on purpose for us on the tour. You really learn to appreciate their talents while onstage.

Just curious... what did she say/do that broke character?

I'm curious too! LOL

My kids were the last to get an autograph with Aladdin in Morocco before he had to leave. As he was rushing off, my husband heard a cast member say "Hey, Billy" to him!

A side not about "Billy", he did an awesome job and must have heard us call our son by name while in line because when he had his turn, he repeatedly said our son's name while talking to him, it was very cool and impressed our little boy and us!

on our 2nd trip, our oldest dd was 3 1/2. we went to chef mickey's the first night. my dd had quite a bit of attention from minnie. she had little princess figurines with her and minnie was quizzing her on who they were. then it looked like she was whispering in my dd's ear!! after minnie left, i asked my dd if she said something to her. she said, "She said 'I love you!" So Minnie spoke, but only my dd heard her.

It wasn't anything too bad, but it was just a little disconcerting to me when it happened. Cindy asked my dd where we were from and after my dd told her, she turn to Snow White and was reminding her about when they visited a town near us and hung out together! Now, I guess Cindy and Snow White as characters could have been hanging out together in our state but the way they were talking together did not seem like it! Also, Cindy and Snow White seemed like they were more interested in each other then the kids! They went around the room together. My sister-in-law went the next week to the breakfast and said it was the same with her!

i've never had a non-face character speak..but on our last trip there, i did hear a lot of them make "kiss" noises! that was a little odd...but at least it was understood what they were doing! i was getting kisses from all of them!!

Hi BriarRose,

I am new here also!! Just wanted to tell you that we were there a few years ago (stayed at the GF) and my husband and I had dinner at Victoria and Alberts while our teen daughters went to the villans dinner at 1900 Park Fare. One of my daughters said that while eating Captain Hook whispered in her that she was very beautiful!!!

That is just about the sweetest thing I've ever heard! How special that must have been. :D

LAst year my family and I were eating lunch at HOllywood and Vine and there were very little people there so we got alot of attention from Goofy and Pluto. Pluto was playing around "running away" with my moms purse and she made a joke and we clearly heard him laugh. Then on a different round
of Pluto coming around he had burped. (LOL does that count?) :smooth:

Thanks for all of the replies. DS reminds me of the time Geppetto sneezed inside his mask but he made it look authentic by covering his mouth. :D
