I'm hoping to find a product that I can apply to my new shower floor...something clear that can be painted on acrylic. The floor shape is soooo odd that no store bought mat will come close to fitting and the finish is far too slick to be safe. :sad2: Anyone here used a product they can recommend?

I don't know of anything that you can paint on but we recently stayed with a friend and she had a soft/foam type bath mat that was very comfortable on the feet and would work to keep you from slipping. It had suction cups to anchor it in place on the floor (like the old plastic type ones) and you can hang it on the wall to dry as needed too. It might not be a perfect fit but it would work-you could get a couple of them even. I want to buy one for our whirlpool tub to soften the bottom some for sitting in the tub.

That's putting it mildly! This contraption has seats and footrests that give a strange floor shape. Nothing fits! I nearly busted my "big fat one" last night due to the slickness. I know there's a product to coat on ceramic tile, just need something for acrylic. The store here (town the size of a tiny village) didn't have a thing. But GOLFGAL, thank you for your suggestion!

While were on this topic, anyone have a idea of somthing we can get that the cat cant move? She ate a tub mat, a set of frogs, and two ducks (the tub decal kind). We also tried the sticky strips, she cant move those but can eat the edges (which means eventually they slip). Ive fallen like 4 times so far..

The mat I was talking about could probably be cut to fit an area. Do you have a picture of the shower?

Subscribing for ideas.

I use those dopey things they sell for kids. They're cheap and they work, but they're silly and a little garish, I suppose. Currently, I have frogs and chicks. But those are the last frogs and chicks and I'll be needing something new soon.

Don't like the mats. They get funky if you don't clean all those little suction cups and who wants to be doing that?

Just toss the mat into the dishwasher or washing machine every once in a while, not a big deal. I you hang it to dry after using the shower, they stay pretty clean.

I would just get one of those mats with the suction cups and cut it to fit the shape of the shower stall so that it fits correctly. To keep it clean, just hang it up after you take a shower and let it dry. Put it back down the next time you take a shower. You can toss it in the washer every now and then, or flip it upside down and spray a bleach/water solution on it to keep it from getting funky. I always replace the shower mat I've got about every 9-12 months when it starts getting funky anyway.

We bought this stuff for our bathroom floor and plan on putting it in our shower.

My 81 y/o mom lives with us in the winter. She has had hip and knee replacement and has horrible arthritis. I don't have rugs on the bathroom floor because she drags one foot and I am afraid she will catch it on the rug.

Before she arrived this past winter, my husband applied Johnny Grip in the bathroom she uses most and it worked out great.

She showers in our master bathroom because that has a walk in shower. She is back up north now and DH just ripped out our shower and is in the process of redoing it because we were having a mold issue. Once that shower is done, we plan on applying the Johnny Grip stuff to the new shower tile floor. My mom was using a bath mat at our house so I am hoping this will eliminate the need for that.

Her condo up north has something applied to all the tile floors including the shower and she has never had a problem. I don't know what they used but I am assuming it is a similar product. HTH

I was soooo excited reading about the Johnny Grip and thought I'd found a miracle. Nope. Can't be used on acrylic fiberglass. :sad1: Well, will just have to locate a mat that can be cut and design one myself as suggested above. Thanks to every one of you! :thumbsup2
