My 5yo dd just got a DS for Christmas. I'm finding that many of the games are frustrating for her...she likes to play in the car and it is hard for me to explain what the game is telling her if I'm driving. She's a beginner reader but it still is a bit complicated/confusing for her. (right now, Club Penguin comes to mind...still trying to figure that game out!)

Any suggestions for other games that might not be as complicated for her to get her going? I do want to challenge her with her reading, but I'd like to at least get her used to the DS first before she gets frustrated. Thanks!

PS - Maybe I'm a gaming idiot, but if anyone has anyway to walk us thru Club Penguin, I'd really appreciate it!

My son who is 6 got a DS for Christmas as well and he is also just catching on to reading. I went to Gamestop and bought Warioware:touched. It's an older game, but the guy at Gamestop was right it's perfect for my son. There is not alot of reading but enough to encourage him to try and it has kept him busy. I also bought Deal or No Deal and it has little to no reading. I also bought a few game to encourage reading, my thought was that he would try harder to understand and thus want to read more.

It's an older game, but Cooking Mama is a good one that my niece enjoyed when she was younger. It doesn't require any reading that I recall and it demonstrates each step of the game.
