DawnCt1 said:Who cares, it was an accident.
Mugg Mann said:Yes it was. And guess what Dawn, so was Chappaquiddick. But that doesn't stop you from being a hypocrite and bringing it up at every possible opportunity. Obviously you must believe that Kennedy planned out his accident in advance, because you want to hold his feet to the fire but look the other way when Cheney has an accident. And if you assume that the circumstances are different because someone died due to Kennedy's accident, then why don't you hold Laura Bush to the same standard because someone died due to her negligence?
Of course, the only explanation that fits all the facts is that you look the other way when republicans are involved and go for the jugular when it's a democrat. In your world, republicans/conservatives=good and democrats/liberals=bad, and no fact that contradicts that narrow-blinder worldview of yours can possibly be true. But you can't admit that, can you?
My apologies to the rest of the posters for going off topic...and MossMan, once again, good stuff!!!
Uh, uh, no way. Do you hunt? Look, this was an accident. But in any hunting accident the blame goes to the shooter unless there is extraordinary negligence on the part of the shootee.DisneyMomOK said:Mr. Whittington apologized because he knew he had failed to follow the rules of bird hunting safety: You hunt in a line, with all other hunters in your peripheral vision, in order to avoid an accident.

My 11 year old said it best I think, My wife and I were discussing the matter and how the media was in a frenzy.
The very sage 11 year old said "It was an accident, get over it."
Seems about right....
chobie said:Aaah, the old "my child said" comeback. As if your child is not just parroting the views of her family.
My 11 year old said just the opposite about the vice president shooting an old man in the face, and though I would love to believe that her views are completely her own....I suspect she is still being influenced by the thoughts and feelings of the adults that she loves and respects.
Robinrs said:Man, I thought the very same thing when I read that! My son reflected MY thoughts, too, and it was quite different from "get over it"...

You were looking for non-partisan opinions? Well, I don't think you got many, but this I wonder about Cheney--can there seriously be many registered voters in this country who feel he is healthy enough to run for president in 2008?
I swear I'm not being fasticious when I say it seems like he's had 5 or 6 heart procedures since 2000. How a man who's been sick as often and seriously as Cheney could be elected president is beyond comprehension.
DawnCt1 said:Oh but there are several things that are different here. He was with a woman, not his wife that was many years younger. He swam away, went to a hotel and failed to report the accident until he built a story for himself and the body was discovered. Leaving the scene of an accident is at the least, evading responsibility. He was more than likely drinking, so we have a potential DUI with vehicular manslaughter. Of course, if Ted had driven a Volkswagen instead of an Oldsmobile, he might have been president by now. Check out http://fatboy.cc
LakeAriel said:Cheney was more then likely drinking also since he didn't even accompany his good friend and victim to the hospital but stayed out of sight till the next day.
Why though, are we talking about Ted Kennedy and what happened 36 years ago? Was he hunting quail with the VP?
Galahad said:We don't know whether either was drinking, do we? All of the witnesses to the VP's accident say he wasn't. I suppose they are all lying?
LakeAriel said:Really? Cheney himself said he had a beer. So they WERE lying?
