If a family is using the DVC points of a friend (who is a member) to stay at a DVC resort, is there is waiver that the member can sign so that the individual utilizing the reservation can talk directly to DVC customer service, thereby not requiring the "member" the responsibility of making additional options to the reservation?

Also as a "non-member" do you feel like an "outsider" at any DVC resort??

Thanks for your help!

No you can't talk to MS and no you won't be treated or feel like a outsider.

No, you will not be able to contact member services for any reason if you don't own points. Even a current member who takes a trip using a reservation that belongs to another member cannot talk to Member Services about that reservation. They don't own those points.

However, the member could add you as an Associate Member and you could do that. But that is a risk they would have to take. they can add up to four Associate Members to their contract.

If you are compensating the member for the use of those points, you are not able to take advantage of any DVC member perks or benefits. But, if the member gifted them to you with no expectation of compensation, you may be entitled to some member perks. Most member perks these days require that you show the blue member card, though. The member is required to notify Member Services that you are "renting" the reservation if you compensated them for the reservation.

What are member perks?

They could add you as an associate as noted above, that is the only way I am aware of. If they're a close friend and don't have other reservations, they may be willing to do so. If not, you're out of luck. As noted, if there's compensation one isn't a guest but a renter and technically, that's true even if you barter or buy them dinner. Otherwise a 3 way call might be the easier option. IF they are willing to add you as an associate, they can do that online and remove it just as easily. There really isn't much you need to do anyway, the DDP is about the only real issue other than simple requests.

There isn't any way to give limited access for others other than the above that I can think of.

You can just as easily get park tickets or make any other reservations other than the actual DVC room without dealing with Member Services. You can get tickets online or just wait until you arrive. You can call the regular disney numbers for dining, tours, recreation, etc.

I'm not sure of any special reservations or tickets that you can only get through Member Services.

It's not just DDP but tickets and special reservations
As noted, you can do everything else yourself outside the DDP without access to MS, likely even Magical Express. I'm guessing by the tone of your post and by the failure to address the issue since that this is really a rental from an acquaintance or stranger rather than a close friend. In that situation you will likely not get some of the perks you may be thinking about, like free internet, dining discounts, Pass dicounts etc. Good luck with your planning and enjoy your stay.

The only things the member would need to do for you are:

  • Add the dining plan
  • Add Magical Express
  • Make room/location requests

You would make your own dining reservations, buy your own tickets, make any reservations for things like illuminations cruises, tours, BBB, etc.

I understand your not wanting your friend to have to make a lot of calls on your behalf.....what you can do to make it easy for them is give them all of the info at once so they can do it all in one call. Once you've got your flight booked, give them that information and any room/location requests you have, and let them know if you want the DP added. They can take care of that in one call to MS. Easy. :)

You'll need to provide them a means of paying for the DDP because it must be paid for when it is added.

I don't really care about the free perks, we don't bring a laptop with us during vacation so the free internet is not a problem to us, and we are also getting the DDP is the discounts for dining doesn't really matter either. We have the Disney Visa so we get those discounts from that. The people we are getting the villa from is a very close friend and I do not like putting other people out. Since I have always done the vacation planning by the myself as a package this is just different for me so I had questions that needed help with.

Also Magical Express also needs to be done by the DVC member.

Good luck with your trip. I'd just get everything settled and together so the member can do it all at one time.

You might want to sign up for the mousesavers newsletter so you can get you tickets through their special link before you go. You will save a few dollars that way.
