PLEASE HELP ME!! My brother is trying to obtain FL resident passes (we are from NY). I am trying to explain to him that he won't be able to use those, but he is insistent and will do anything to save a couple bucks. I told him they will check his id and see that he isn't a florida resident...but he's not buying it. We are all going together and I don't want to get to the gate and have him and his girlfriend stuck outside (I have an ap). What else should I tell him?

Tell him you hope he likes riding the monorail, coz that's the only ride he'll get to take for his money spent on "illegal" tickets.

The only thing I can suggest is find that information on the web and either show it to him or print it out. But at the end of the day, if he refuses to listen to you, all you can do is bite your tongue and when he gets there remember that you did all you can. Or you can talk to his girlfriend and see if she'll listen to you.

What a dope. They absolutely WILL NOT let him use those passes. Basically he's going to ruin the entire vacation for everyone. I'm sorry you're having to deal with this from a family member, but if he's criminally-minded, there probably isn't much you can do about it. Be prepared to leave him at the gate and go inside and have a good time. It sounds cruel, but he's been warned. If he still chooses to try to steal from WDW, you shouldn't suffer for that. Maybe he'll come to his senses (if he has any, lol). Good luck!

Yup. It's not gonna happen. He's welcome to try, but he's not gettin' in.

But I wouldn't worry too much. If he can't prove with a valid photo ID that he IS a Florida resident, he's not gettin' the passes in the first place.

Sometimes there isn't anything you can do, except let a person suffer the consequences. And do your very best not to let it ruin your trip.

Whenever we have purchased or renewed our FL resident passes, they only send us vouchers in the mail. YOu have to go pick up the actual passes at guest services--specifically so they will be able to check your FL ID before issuing the pass. So there's not even a chance that he could "slip through". Thankfully!

Here's the "more info" from where I can buy my resident tickets online:

Delivery & Will Call Options: If you select to receive your ticket via standard mail, an exchange certificate will be sent to your shipping address. To redeem your ticket, bring the exchange certificate and valid Florida Resident photo ID to any Walt Disney World® Theme Park ticket window. If you select Will Call, you should print a Will Call Certificate after completing the transaction. Then, bring your certificate, along with a valid FL Resident ID, to any Walt Disney World® Theme Park ticket window to pick up your tickets.

Proof of Residency per adult is required - you must provide any one of the following:
* Florida driver's license
* Florida state-issued ID card (must have Florida address)
* Florida voter's registration card with corresponding picture ID
* A college ID for a Florida college
* Florida-based military ID

Passes are non-transferable, are only valid during regularly scheduled operating hours and exclude activities / events priced separately. No additional discounts apply.

Dunno if it'll help your case, but there you go. :goodvibes

Thanks guys! I am hoping I talked some sense into him. He's got a friend living in Fl and he thought he could just get him to buy it....silly, I know. This is his first real vacation and he's proposing to his girlfriend and hes just trying to save money. I tried to explain that it's not LEGAL, but he wasn't thinking like that. He's a good boy :)

Tell him he'd better get a good fake Florida driver's license (plus one for his GF) if he plans to do this, because that's the only way this will work. Hopefully if you explain that he won't even be able to buy the passes with out ID, let alone try to use them at the gate, he'll change his mind.

Here's an idea, bet him $50 that he gets stopped at Guest Services and can't buy his passes. Then when he actually does get stopped, tell him to just use the $50 he owes to help buy the correct tickets.

I wonder how much he thinks he's going to save anyway?

Just print or email these responses for him.

:) Sometimes people just don't think. Especially if his mind is elsewhere!

Yep, show him this thread.

Disney are SO tight about tickets to the point of interrogating 2 and a half year olds to make sure they're the right age!!

My girlfriends and I have a Girl's Weekend every year in Disney and one girl is from NJ (all the rest of us are in FL, and I have an AP) and every year we try to think of a way to get her a FL Resident Pass, but it's just not possible. Every member of the party has to show ID and without a FL ID she can't get the FL Resident rate. If I try to get it, they'll see I have an AP and that won't work. She's o.k. with it, she knows how much it costs, so it's not a problem.

I hope he has better luck with the proposal :goodvibes

If just ANYONE could get the FL rate, I don't think anybody would buy full price tickets.

Let him buy the dang things, and let him suffer the consequences. Then if he says anything, give him a healthy dose of I told you so and enjoy your first 3 hours or so while he attempts to explain things.

A everyone has said to get the ticket you have to present proof of residency when you purchase the ticket. But I can also tell you he may be stopped at the gate at anytime and they may ask for ID. It has happened to us on numourous occasions.
