We're headed to HHI in early June. We're not staying at DVC because of availability and saving points but have found a place over near Coligny Circle to rent for the week. Just wondering from the Hilton Head experts where to eat in that area of the island? We've been to Steamers and will likely go there again, but wondered what else is in the area that we shouldn't miss for the evening meal?

There are a number of great dining options near Coligny Plaza.

Drive north on Pope Avenue and go straight thru the Sea Pines circle - Red Fish is about 1/2 mile on the right. http://www.redfishofhiltonhead.com/ordereze/default.aspx

Right in the Coligny area are:

Vine - http://www.hiltonheadisland.org/dining/restaurants/not-just-pasta-and-wine-bar/

Stellini - http://www.hiltonheadisland.org/dining/restaurants/stellini-italian-restaurant/

Big Bamboo - http://www.hiltonheadisland.org/dining/restaurants/big-bamboo-cafe/

There are over 200 restaurants on Hilton Head, so there is truly something for every taste. These are all within easy access from Coligny but nothing is too far on the island. Of these, our favorites are Vine and Red Fish. Others we enjoy are Catch-22, Michael Anthony's, On Hot Mama's, Alexanders, Black Marlin, Skull Creek Boathouse.

Have a great stay! :)

There are an enormous number of great and reasonably priced restaurant's for HH. I won't go into a big list, they're easy to find on DIS and elsewhere. For that area we love Wild Wings and NY city pizza for casual meals and the Alligator Grill for more upscale. Doc's suggestions are top notch as well. There are a ton of discounts including restaurant.com and the local tourist magazines. You can also use the DVC discount if not staying there. In every case we've asked, we've been able to get both any applicable discount (Marriott, DVC) in addition to either a coupon or early bird special. Got the free salad at the Old Oyster Factory and the 10% discount and got the 10% discount off early bird's at Alexander's and one other place I'm blanking on right now.

We went for Spring break and stayed for the first time at HHR. The best restaurant was A Lowcountry Backyard, which is #3 on tripadvisor. It's north of Coligny on Pope. Great classic southern - shrimp and grits, chicken and biscuits, meatloaf, and a banana pudding to die for that used mascarpone. Service is very friendly. It's small and doesn't take reservations, so we got there early (5:30) and were seated immediately. People who got there at 6:30 were told it's an hour wait. We also enjoyed Oyster House.

there is a great app called, "Open Table".. hooks you up with info and ability to make reservation ( which you should do here in the summer) to many places. Not all the eateries r linked to it, but many are...
one that I love here as a resident is on Marshland rad called Roastfish and cornbread. BUT you will wait as it is always crowded . the sante fe is closer to shelter cove but just off 278 , one I would stay far away from is the Big Bamboo. Its loud, and dirty and really just bar food, all fried, all the time.
hope this helps.. OH on 278 and Mathews is a bilo , in that little strip mall are several good places to try, Street meat, O'reilly's, a japanese steakhouse I forgot the name of and a couple other things!

I really like the smokehouse. It's on hilton head island. Great BBQ and beer. Anyone ever try that one?
