We are looking to buy/rent(not sure of correct terminology) points for a 1bdrm at BW for either May 27-June2 or Oct 14-19th. My question is should I just post on the R/T boards what we are wanting .....OR I see listings for points good thru 2008 and points listing in use month June. Does that mean points are not good until June and only for June? Would our May27-June2 trip qualify? Or does it mean from June on the points can be used if bought and dates booked? Can you please explain to me how this works? How I should handle this?

I am sorry I am so backwards. We have never gone this route before and as a newbie to all this I think I ask and think stupid things! Ack! We usually geta package deal thru Disney ressies but we are no longer a family of 4 plus baby, we have added another baby to make us 6. Staying off resort is not an option as we are at disney for the experience and we only do disney every couple years.

Thank you all!

go here to figure how many points you need.

(don't worry too much about "use year" at this point, as long as the points don't expire before your trip.)

you can either request a rental from those posting available points or post your schedule and wait for someone (preferably with some posting history) to respond. (just understand that once the reservation is made, the owner risks losing their points if you have to back out at the last minute, so be sure of your dates.)

if there is availability, you should get a response. since your dates are when school is out and during "food and wine" - and you are specifying a smaller resort (BWV) - there may be a bit of risk that it will be booked up.

Thanks Chalee94! I have already figured out the amount of pts needed for both stays. 160 for the May/June stay and 90 for October. Disney is advertising the May date as Disney days with lower crowds, etc. Yet prices arent reflecting that! Go figure! But that date ties in with our annual beach vacation to give us two weeks of sun and fun.

If anyone else has any advice to add, please do! :thumbsup2

Your May/June dates are also Star Wars Weekend and Gay Days so I wouldn't expect "lower crowds".

Oh! Springandmac what days exactly are Gay Days? DH and the boys would love to do Star Wars Days, though........I just dont know how to explain Gay Days to a curious 3 yr old. My older two get that love is love but........

Thank you for the heads up and info!

You need to post the days you need, plus the type and location of accomodations that you want. The points are useless to you since you are not a member. Let the member figure out if their points can be used for your reservation. They should be able to do that.

If you are a family of 6, you can't stay in a 1br. The 1br units are for 4 people plus one child that can sleep in a pack and play. Don't want to stir anything up, but there is always alot of discussion on this board about people trying to put more people than allowed in the rooms.

I do believe that the OP's 2 little ones are under 3. So, can't she get into a 1 bedroom? Not trying to :stir: just curious. I do know that "technically" DVC only allows 4+ 1 under 3 in a 1 bedroom, but know that they will book 5 in a 1 bedroom. I don't want to turn this into a debate, please.

I just responded to your PM, so check your messages! :teeth:

I would post what you are looking for on the rent'trade board. But, I would also give 2 choices of resorts to give you a better chance.

I don't have enough posts to post links but you can get more info (so that you can figure out which parks to avoid, apparently there's one park each day that's the "park of the day) wwwdotgaydaysdotcom The dates are May 29-June 4th.

The trip I'm planning starts at the end of gay days so I'm not too worried, my plan is just to avoid the "park of the day". I don't have a problem with the event, my kids are older 13 and 11 so I don't think there will be much explaining to do there, but I think I'll be explaining alot to my husband :rotfl2:

They will allow 5 in a one bedroom, but not six, even if one is a child under the age of three. Five is the max.

We are a family of 6 but two of the six of us are babies sleeping in cribs/pack n plays. I am not going to pay for a room and beds that wont be used. If that is a problem we are just looking in the wrong place and I do appreciate all the info and help received but im not going to stir the pot or cause conflict. You all are too good of people for this to be argued.

Thank you all for your help. We will just keep checking out disney options and go from there! :thumbsup2

you may want to look into the all star suites - they may work for you at less cost than DVC good luck and happy planning

The Fort Wilderness Cabins also hold 6 persons. So you might try those.

Nor would I, and many DVC members (including myself) would go ahead and book a 1-br for themselves in this situation despite the rules. However, you would find it difficult to find someone willing to rent under those conditions, not wanting to be responsible for someone else. Good luck, I think those other options people suggested are worth looking into. Keep in mind, though, that a rental of a 2-br may still be cheaper than your other options.
