non DVC member renting

I have heard so many good things about the DVC resorts. Buying into it is not an option right now, but I am very interested in renting points. Staying in a two bedroom villa is much more appealing than cramming my family of five into one small hotel room for a whole week. A kitchen would be amazing as well.

I was just hoping for some good info on how this all works. We aren't planning to go on our next trip until August or November of 2007. How far in advance can we book? How do you choose who to rent from?

I'd appreciate any info you can provide. Thanks in advance

I just wanted to let you know our experiences... all great with renting from DVCers.
1st time.... (May 04)right after our wedding, did a Dis Familymoon and planned on staying @ CBR which we did. DH and I wanted at least 1 kid free night so we rented a 1 bdrm standard @ BWV for 2 nights. SEnt a deposit followed by full payment 30 days before trip. Beautiful place, lots of room, great quiet view.. had kid with us 1 night anyway.
2nd time....( Sept 04) SIL and pregnant me (4 months) rented studio @ BCV for 4 nights. Havd view of road which was busy during the day bit quiet @ night. Very close to quiet pool which we shared with a lovely little "Duck" couple and close to Parking. BCV are further away from main pool as DVC was added on building a while back after resort built. BWV surround main pool. Same payment plan.
3Rd time.... (oct 05) 1st trip with new baby.2 brdm for 5 night s@ OKW. Very spaced out. Not as convienent as BWV/BCV but very relaxed, and quiet. Nice new slide @ main pool.Bus transport frequent to rooms further away. Rooms are huge compared to other DVC. Deposit followed by full payment 4-6 weeks before trip.

WE are trying to buy into DVC right now and waiting for ROFR. I am glad we rented before we bought as it gave us piece of mind and let us know if it was really for us at a great price compared to other Dis resorts.

You may want to decide on a priority for resorts. You can reserve a villa at 11 months ahead of time. Only members with points at that resort can reserve from 8-11 months ahead of time. When you get to 7 months out, any member can use their points to make a reservation.

If you want a holiday time (Thanksgiving), find a member to rent from no later than 11 months ahead of time. Late Aug should be a bit easier to reserve.
