We have a holiday in London planned for March 29-April 5, 2007
We are currently booked at Le Meridien Piccadilly and plan on doing all the normal first time sights. I haven't been to London in over 10 years and DH, DD 12, and DS 10 have never been

Can someone recommend some restaurants / casual eatieries and pubs where children are welcomed for a meal, that they like in London?

We have one picky eater and one who will try just about everything

we always like smollenski's. there used to be one on the strand (not sure if it is still there) or Smollenski's Balloon in Dover street.

oops, forgot to add that the first ever branch of Hard Rock Cafe is in London too.

if you do go to Garfunkels go to the one on Leicester Square and get an outside or window table...it's great for people watching and there's usually a lot of street entertainers out too :thumbsup2

Theres a rainforest cafe at Picadilly and planet hollywood.

For something differnt there is Tower 42 in the City (Old Nat West Tower) Which does special lunch deals for £15 a head. If the weather is good you get fantastic views over London

Thanks everyone
We want to try and avoid places like Rainforest Cafe and Planet Hollywood as we have them near us. The exception is Hard Rock Cafe. I was there many years ago and would like to go again just because it is the original

Hi, I was a little shocked to see mostly American style places listed. Though, when we were there 2 years ago, we ate at Pizza Hut 2 nights out of 4. However, as I'm sure our UK friends will tell you, there are lots of great British restaurants that kids will enjoy. Let them try something different. We ate at Chesire Cheese one night, and at a great Italian place, right down from Selfridiges, called Carluci's, or something like that. Also had a great mid-day supper at a pub in Hampsted with our Dis friends. But like here, some of the pubs don't let kids in, even for meals.
I also saw a chain of sandwiche places, as well as lots of Stabucks, so everyone should be happy. Just experiment.

theres a nice italian round the back of picadilly topo giogio (cant remember how 2 spell it)

Thanks everyone. Any pubs that children are allowed in for meals
Topo Gigio was a mickey mouse type of character in Italy when I was growing up.

On the King's road there a great place called "The Chelsea Kitchen" where you get good fresh home cooked food for a really good price. Wine by the glass, kid friendly and good polite service. Standards aren't high class and it can be favoured by students due to it's reasonable price but £10 ($18) can get your tummy pretty full!
On a world famous shopping street that's littered with the usual chains (McD's, starbucks et al) it's a refreshing change!
