My DH is lactose intolerant, but of course loves ice cream and milkshakes!!:lovestruc

I already plan on getting him a dole whip, which I think he will love. We have ADR's at Sci Fi. I thought I read on here that they will make you a lactose-free milkshake? Am I remembering that correctly?

TIA!!

warning the dole whip does have dairy in it now.
i believe the popcorn is non dairy.

Popcorn is non-dairy. They will make milkshakes with rice dream or soy ice cream. My son has a dairy allergy, along with a peanut and fish one too!

The main ice cream parlor in MK has the same rice dream and toffutti for ice cream treats.

Oh and don't forget to ask if there is sorbet available at TS locations.

I agree with the prior poster who said dole whips are not non-dairy - what I have heard is that the Disneyland ones are, but the ones at WDW are now a different recipe and contain dairy.

They may be lactose free though if you're dealing with an intolerance rather than an allergy. I don't know, but it's worth looking into.

My son is Lactose Intollerant too....we're not going to chance the Dole Whip. He loves Ice cream too, but none of us want to spend our vacation chasing after him to find a toilet. :sad2: We'll stick with teh Itsakadoozie.

My DS is very allergic to dairy and I am so happy to see all of the non-dairy treats that WDW is offering now! Last time we were there (on DS 5th b-day), we had to pre-order Rice Dream for him and it was only available for our ADR locations. He will be so excited to walk into the ice cream parlor on Main Street and be able to order something just like everyone else! For those of you who have had to explain to your child why they can't have ice cream (or pizza, or the birthday cake brought to school by a classmate, etc.) you know what a HUGE deal this is!

Way to go Disney! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Just be prepared that you will not just walk into the ice cream parlor and get him non-dairy like everyone else. It will take quite a bit longer, you have to fill out paperwork, so give yourself some time and be prepared...then you won't be as annoyed as I was standing there for 20 minutes! Yes, it was 20. :confused3

IMO, it's well worth it! (just wanted you to know that it takes some time) I plan on getting some chocolate tofutti when I'm there next week! :goodvibes

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of paperwork do you have to fill out? It's nondairy ice cream not a controlled substance. :)

I have posted this before and can't quite understand it myself, but it happened TWICE, once when my friend went to get my ice cream and then a couple nights later when I went in as well. She told me I had to go get it myself this time b/c of the hassle she got! This was in Sept. 2008.

I went up and asked for the non-dairy ice cream (soy toffuti) and at first they seemed confused. They called the manager. He had a yellow slip of paper, asked my name, I believe address?? (I was sort of shocked that I had to answer questions to get ice cream!) and then I had to sign the paper.

What made it more annoying for me is that when he asked about my allergy, I told him I didn't have an allergy (which technically I guess I do b/c I react poorly to dairy) but that I was a vegan. He looked at me and his tone changed and he said, "Oh, so it's a CHOICE." :sad2:

In any case, they put on gloves, went in the back for a long time, I started to wonder if I was getting any and finally came back with my ice cream after I had watched countless people come in and order normal ice cream. Oh and they also had issues ringing it up. I thought that was strange b/c I figured they must have requests often? Maybe it was just someone's first night? :confused3

I'm used to this kind of thing, so it really wasn't that big of a deal, but wanted to warn you that it takes some time. My friend missed Wishes the first night getting it for me (luckily it was my first trip and she has been many many times, so she wasn't upset).

It takes longer because they keep those dairy free treats in a seperate room in the back where there are no chances of cross contamination. I honestly don't mind waiting for my son's treat as long as I know he will be safe.

Oh and during both of our trips last summer we never filled out any paperwork. They entered his allergy into the computer and a manager came out to talk to us. It did take about 10 minutes to get it to him...but not 20. I guess that could happen if they were very busy.

Yes, it was right before/during wishes, so it was busy and I'm sure that contributed! I agree that it's worth it and I am thankful they are careful so as not to have contamination. I just wanted to warn people so they don't get aggravated when it takes some extra time! :)

I know the first we we took my ds to the Parlor in 2007 they gave me my ice cream first and I was almost done by the time he got his! He was a bit upset but now he knows that he has to wait longer for his.
