Anyone have any?
(And I know this is the college thread, but it just seems to fit here more than anywhere else)

I'm planning on doing an audition coming up in Sept, that's for "character performers for shows & parades, Disney character look-alikes" that's not for the college program, and was just wondering if anyone has done one of these, and what the experience was like, both during the audition, and working for Disney after. I've heard/read that you do work in basically anything & everything in the World in the "entertainment" area, anyone have any input?

Thanks in advance!!

The audition process is the same, so check out the other threads.

As for "Entertainment, that's a pretty loaded word. Entertainment includes: Costuming, Technicians, Photopass Photographers, Attendants, Characters, Equity Performers (Actors/Singers/Dancers), and Musicians... plus all of their leaders and support teams.

Each of those fall into different bargaining units (aka Unions), so no, you will not be able to do everything. However, if you're thinking of Characters specifically, then yes, you could work everywhere: resorts, parks, water parks. Most people start with Meet and Greets and then advance to parades/shows. But you could be doing something different any given day.

Thanks, and for entertainment I meant character performing & parade performing. In the above mentioned audition, is it just for "movers" do they hire all their dancers for say, B & B and FOTLK seperately? It says that we will be taught a "movement routine" if you excell at that, do they maybe pull you out for a dancing role? (I'm a dancer as well, and am interested in shows/parades/characters)

TIA

Along for the ride.... popcorn::

Our daughter just got accepted into the college program and she might audition in mid Oct. for a character performer.

This is wear a gets a little more complicated... there are movers (aka Character Performers) and there are Dancers (equity). These roles do not cross over.

B&B is an example of dancer. In this case you would attend an audition specifically for B&B and then get cast for that show.

FOLK is an example of mover. In this case you attend a character audition (as you are) and if selected they will start you as a character and if you demonstrate the skill you could get trained in FOLK. Once you are hired, there are additional internal auditions in which you could be assessed for your potential for FOLK. You would not be selected for FOLK based on your initial audition.

I'm so glad that there are people like you who are this knowledgable! Thank-you!

So for something B&B would you know, do they announce those auditions internally, or is it more-so done through agents/recruitments because they are equity performers? I don't think I've ever seen an audition posting for dancers for Disney except the cruise lines. In terms of FOTLK, what about the bird dancers (Can You Feel the Love Tonight) would they probably be equity as well?

Thank you so so so much for all the info!

You're right! The birds and monkeys in FOLK are indeed equity and would require that other audition.

Disney posts all of their auditions on Disneyauditions.com. They typically audition B&B and FOLK twice a year. Just watch the website to see when their next post will be. They are regular open calls, you do not need to be a current equity member in order to audition. Be prepared though, some of the open calls bring out hundreds of people.

Okay my daughter is going to the Oct. 16th audition in Philly for character performance. She and I understand that she will do a piece of choreograhy and if she makes it through that cut...then they divide people up for "fur" or "face" auditions. Is this correct?? She is also a dancer and was wondering if there were any roles for dancers in parades that she would get to audition for during this audition or are CP cast members not able to do these type roles? I am just trying to understand these things. She said that the dancer who are "on stage" are union dancers and don't dance on concrete? Is that correct? THANKS

Trying to figure out what FOLK means?

I have some of the same questions as DD is also going to the Oct. 16th audition in Philadelphia! DD is particularly interested in the parade dancer end, but of course, who doesn't want to be a princess... or fur character?

We are wondering... How long do these auditions run? Will this audition finish in time for DD to get to the Philadelphia airport by 8pm, for a 9pm flight (reg is at 12:30, audition at 1pm)? Also, she has applied for the CP but hasn't received a reply yet (that she's told me about). Will this be a problem when attending the audition?

ALSO... RESUME HELP!!! We are not sure what to include, as all she's auditioned for so far has been summer intensives (ballet, rockettes, etc). Will she need a head shot? Additional dance poses? What to include on the resume, besides dance experience? Will they want to know about her working with kids? Community involvement? Should the resume be glued to the back of the headshot? We are SO new to this and Disney is SUCH a dream for her (in fact, we will be in Orlando 10/7 til 10/11... too bad they aren't auditioning then/there!)

For those of you asking about the College Program auditions and such, check out through this thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1694898&

I've been reading through it to get a better idea of things, its long, but also very very informative.

Now, pertaining to auditions that are NOT college program auditions, do you need to bring a resume/headshot? I've heard that they take photos at the audition, but it never hurts to have a resume on hand, right? Also, disneyauditions.com had auditions up until Dec 17th listed, then the website was down for a day, and now they're only listed until Nov. Do you think they'll keep the Dec auditions the same when they are announced, or no?
