I have yet to go on a cruise, but the idea of bonding with other Dis-ers on board sounds really fun... it seems like every cruise has a group of adults that all meet up for mixology, and have a great time (at least most of them) I have also heard of bar crawls being set up for adult cruisers, unfortunately, my spouse is a recovering alcoholic, so we don't really do bars per say, or activities where the goal is to drink...

What else might we suggest to a cruise group for a grown up get together that people would actually go to? any ideas?

Thanks in advance

not that it's a problem for people to be drinking around us, but if alcohol is the goal, its easy to feel left out, and that is not a good temptation for some to have...

We've had adult pajama breakfasts; room crawls; just a general "let's all meet up at the pool" events. I know that DCL has things like vegetable carving races for the older kid's clubs (sorta like soapbox derby, but you use potatoes, carrots and other veggies to make your car). Maybe they could help you set one up for your group.

I can always count on you Princess Schmoo, :cheer2: These are a great start!

what exactly would a room crawl entail?
Usually, people on a cruise meet thread, who don't have issues with visitors to their rooms, will join up on a list. It's best if you can get an assortment of the various categories, so that everyone can "check out" what the different categories look like.

Then, one day, everyone will visit those rooms. Usually during a set time - say 2:00-4:00 on that day. If there are a lot of people who will be visiting, it's best to break out the list into different groups so that there are different groups rotating through, and not everyone starting at the same room. If you have one or two categories with a lot of volunteers, then you can break up the groups a little that way (as in group A will visit a different 9B room than, say groups B and C do). Does that make sense?

yeah, that sounds really cool, and like people would be interested!

We did the room crawl on our first cruise and it was really neat to see the differences in the rooms. We were fortunate that we got to see pretty much all the categories. That really helped folks make decisions for future cruises besides being fun to meet folks and see how they had decorated their doors.

Through the Disboard threads here, both my September 5, Dream cruise and the DVC Member Cruise on the Wonder, we've arranged for a breakfast meet on Day 2 in the MDR that is open for menu service breakfast.

These are wonderful posts I'm really excited!

If she's going to catch any Friends of Bill W meetings, tell her to catch the first one, attendance dwindles after the first day. It's great to connect at the beginning of the cruise. Just my $.02

Some other things you might want to consider is getting together a trivia group! And decide which days you should meet for trivia. There are usually different themes, Disney, television, 80s, music, sports. Playing with teams would be great fun. You could even set up a team challenge if you have a lot of takers. Each team would be a max of 5-6 people. And you keep up with how many questions you get right across all games of trivia played. Team with the most correct answers wins!

For our cruise last October, we just met up in the Promenade Lounge. Those who wanted to drink could drink, some others just hung out and talked. The kids danced. It was fun.

I'm glad you posted this. I'm not much of a drinker anymore (got my fill while in my 20s I guess, lol) Love hearing the different ideas of things to do with others. Hopefully something will come together for my cruise -- I'm cruising again on the Fantasy dec 24, 2016.
