My 5 yr old is sensitive to some sudden noises or alot of screaming, I am looking for noise reduction headphones, something that will cut the noise down some and something he can use to plug into a laptop to watch a movie on the airplane, any suggestions?

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

I know of several people with chiildren with autism who have gotten shooting muffs at sporting goods stores or places as WalMart. These are designed to cut down on sharp and loud noises, but still allow for hearing conversation. Note these are not electronic and cannot be plugged into anything (but also don't need batteries).

We bought a pair of the of the bose noise reduction earphones for our son. He loves them and he can plug them into his ipod or laptop when needed. I found them on ebay for a great price. Just this last trip he started wearing regular earbuds for the trips to the parks and is only wearing the noise reduction earphones on the plane.

We also bought those same earphones for my ds, we got ours at Fun And Function website. It has really helped him, we go to Sea World quite a bit and he wears them through the whole park because he can't stand the noise. This will be our first time to WDW and I'm holding my breath that this will alleviate some of his sensory issues. I also use his little earbuds for his iPod and just put them into his ear and than put the earmuffs over them, works like a charm!

Good luck!

I am so glad this question was asked. Not to highjack this thread, but I have a couple fo questions I hope someone can answer for me.

I'm an adult with sensory issues.

does anyone know if the adult ones work as good, I noticed on line they look to differ a little.

Also, can you still hear if someone is talking to you? I will have dh, 3 teens and 6yr dd with me. It is imperative I can hear them if they need me.

And has anyone tried the noise reducing plugs, the ones hunters use?

Thank you.

I know my ds can still hear me when I speak to him, it more muffles the loud sounds than cuts them all off. I don't have any experience with the adult ones though, sorry!
