Noise in the Hallways?

Has anyone else found this to be a problem at WDW? Since joining DVC, we sleep late while on vacation--no need to be first in line anymore. Don't people realize that their voices carry in the hallways? Do they care? During our last visit, there was a child who would walk down the hallways hitting the walls with every step, and then there are the kids who just run the 50-yard dash down them, but it was the adult voices that really come booming through the walls. Do you think "Quiet Please" signs might help?

No, I do not think "Quiet Please" signs will help.

We stay at the BWV and I agree that hallway noise is much more bothersome than any noise that may come form the outside. IMHO, the early morning noise is not nearly as annoying as the late night noise. I've learned that being close to the elevators is not necessarily a good thing, LOL!

I agree, it is a problem in any "hotel" style lodging, just as connecting rooms will usually have noise carry from one room to the next. You could try to roll a towel and place in front of the door...if there is a gap there...it should absorb some sound...otherwise hallways (even in our house) seems to be echo chambers and natural amplifiers.

When we went in Dec we stayed at BWV for the first time. The hallways were always quiet. We barely even passed someone just walking thru and trust me we walked. I personally do not let my girls be rude and diruptive while walking thru hallways. Just not acceptable...its rude.

We had in the last studio on the second floor, standard view side, 2133, and it was very quiet!! There are some benefits to the long walk! (Another benefit is that MGM is so much closer!)

I don't think that Quiet Please signs would help, there are those who would make noise just "becauz."

We try not to, but spend the whole vacation telling them "Don't run, be quiet babies are sleeping" when they go through the hallways. We do it quietly - my favorite is when the kids come running through (which is really just a patter from inside the rooms) and then Dad's booming voice comes through the wall "HEY! KIDS! I TOLD YOU TO CUT THAT OUT!"

Just another reason why I like the "no hallway" OKW accommodations.

We were at BWV (2123) in October when the place was packed. We didn't hear a single hallway noise the whole time. Not even when the cleaning carts were out. The ducks in the pond outside were the the only sound we heard.

I can sympathize with someone trying to get some sleep, but mornings at any WDW or DVC resort are, I suspect, not ever going to sound like libraries. I guess we more or less expect that the sounds of excited children ( and their parents ) will be somewhat noticeable as the anticipation of the day's events takes hold of everyone.

It's funny, as crisi points out, that it's usually the parents who are attempting to keep the wee ones quiet who end up making the most noise. OKW, as some have suggested, might be better for sleeping late than the other resorts.

Yep! The BWV rooms far away from the elevators are among the quietest in WDW - you were in one of my favorite standard view areas!

A few years ago we were in that room a floor lower and I think it was my favorite room. Long walk to front but short to MGM and very quiet. My beef is people on upper floors that come in late and sound like a heard of elephants. I think people just don't realize the noise they make they are just excited.

This reminds me of when I used to work the midnight shift. My wife would try so hard to keep the kids quiet so I could sleep during the day, but the funny thing was they never woke me up, it was her telling them to be quiet that did it.

We LOVED that room! Wow. Those "corner" rooms (all 1-bd) have to be some of the biggest and best on property, even if they are "standard" view. (The view is actually lovely.) I wish we knew how to get them more often, but I think there are only four(?) of them. I'd take one over a preferred garden/pool view any time.

I should probably say they're awful and to stay away. Everyone will want one.
