Nobby's Gnomies... heading to WDW in April 2010

It's the weekend! It's the weekend!

C, facebook is super fun and easy! You don't have to be friends with people that you don't want to be -- I have rejected friend requests and the nice thing is that the person doesn't ever know that you have rejected it -- well, except that their friend request is never accepted.

How's everyone else this evening?

I'm telling my Mom about the gnome right now. It's a pretty funny conversation.

Good morning, gnomies! It is gorgeous here in CT. Already warm enough to have the windows open and it's only 8:30! :yay:

Well apparently I do have a twitter account b/c LL and Paula are now "following" me. Not that there is anything to follow since I a) don't know how to do an update and b) nothing much really goes on to update about!

It will be fun to get updates about WDW though.

LL- how did the gnome conversation go with your mom?

What does everyone have planned for the weekend?

Good Morning, C! I saw that you were following me. I'm trying to talk myself out of buying a camera phone today. I just keep thinking about sending Disney pictures.....I've become obsessed. My current phone has no camera. :sad2:

I don't really have anything planned, just getting organized for Disney and maybe some house cleaning.

The gnome conversation went fine. I think she thinks I'm a freak. :rotfl:

Well, how much would a camera phone be? :rolleyes1 Not to enable you or anything but pictures would be awesome! Maybe we can take up a collection and the camera enabled phone can travel to WDW along with Nobby anytime anyone is going. :rotfl:

Well I guess between food porn and Nobby all of your Disney secrets are out with your mom now! :lmao:

I found one last night for $50. I just have a prepaid phone so the phones are not super fancy but they do have them with cameras. I'm trying really hard to be good. :lmao:

Wow. I was expecting you to say a lot more. But still $50. Think of the souvies you could buy. Or the food. Or the champagne. ;)

Well, we went from 85 and sunny yesterday to 58 and rainy today, UGH! I don't think we have any big plans this weekend. I'm going to hit the gym this morning and there is laundry to do

I think I am going to hold off. I think texts will be pretty awesome. :thumbsup2

Woo Hoo for crowd level 5. I am getting more and more excited for gnomefest! For some reason it feels much more real now that we are less than a year away. :thumbsup2

So Greg and I were watching a travel show on PBS this morning about Greece. I commented that someday I would like to take a cruise of the Greek islands. Greg agreed but said if he had to choose, he would go back to Switzerland first. I commented that I wish we had to make that choice. So of course, he says "maybe when you get Disney out of your system we will be able to" UM, EXCUSE ME? So I asked him how long it would be until he got buying new music equipment out of his system (after all, he has purchased 3 new items in the last 8 months and I haven't been to WDW yet) He then said I can't compare the two. EXCUSE ME AGAIN? The way I see it, he has something that is just for him because it brings him joy, so do I. How is it that they are different?

GRRRRRRRR! I knew I could come here and get some understanding from my gnomies!

UGH!! Men, they just don't get it. Marc is into music equipment too but he knows that we can't just spend tons of money on it whenever he wants, it's about the give and take. He tries to point out that I will benefit from the flat screen tv and he has no benefit from my Disney trip. But then I point out that I am perfectly happy with both of our current tv's and have no desire for a flat screen.

You are completely right in your reasoning, Katie!

Ugh!! Katie that is SO frustrating! Why is it that loving Disney seems so silly to people? Of course they are the same thing - just as you said you each have "your thing."

Oh and I'm also with you on dreaming about visiting Greece one day. :)

Of COURSE he gets a benefit! Doesn't a happy LL equal a happy Marc? That's what I always say, when Christine's happy, everyone is happy. :rotfl:

Hi Gnomies!!

I'm done with my 1st week...and I have to say that I like it a lot:upsidedow It's so much smaller than I'm used to...more similar to what my old hosp was like 10 years ago when I started. Since it's small there is very little 'automation' so it's back to basics...recording things by hand...actually SEEING nurses/therapists/anesthetists again...it's fun, reminds me why I went into Hospital pharmacy in the 1st place:goodvibes

I'm doing pretty good with the schedule thing...I only had one morning that I felt like a train wreck (thurs) and that's cause I didn't get to bed weds til 11pm:scared1: But after a pot of coffee, 2 Sudafed, and 3 motrin...i felt like me again:lmao:

I've been following along here (hence my new twitter acct) but not posting too much, cause I haven't spent too much time online. I like getting outta work at 4ish...but when the girls have practice...I'm still not home til 9-930 and I've been trying to get to sleep no later than 10:thumbsup2

The girls have commented that I haven't been nearly as mean as usual this week:thumbsup2

We got the schedule (without times:confused3) for Allison's States Meet next weekend... she competes Sunday afternoon. The scores are posted from the other sectional meets now...there's 2 girls that beat her score...but since there were different judges...we will have to see how it all pans out next week. I don't expect her to 'win' anything...but I'm hoping she at least medals in the AA, Beam and Floor....that would be awesome:thumbsup2 She has the highest Beam score from Sectionals, going in.... but I have the feeling that the one little girl may have fell (all her scores were crazy high but that one) and if she did she 'at least' would have tied Allison (maybe squeeked past even) But regardless, she has a pretty good shot at it...if she doesn't get herself all worked up like she did last year:sad2:

OKey Dokey...I'm gonna go be productive:thumbsup2 It's nice and warm...but cloudy...I think there's a chance of showers. I want to go get more mulch for my gardens:woohoo:

Tootles!
Paula

Hi Paula!!

I'm so glad you like the new job so much! :goodvibes What a great feeling to really like what you're doing!!

:rotfl: on the girls not thinking you were as mean this week!

I'll have my fingers crossed for Allison and the meet next weekend!

Please be productive enough for both of us. I'm about to hit my lounge chair with a big stack of magazines. :)

Hey Paula! I am so happy to hear that you like your new job. :goodvibes You worked super fast on that twitter account! :lmao:

Good to hear from you Paula! I'm so glad you like your new job (and that you aren't as mean :rotfl2:)

I'm going to have a do nothing day too. Greg has been complaining for a few days about not being able to get rid of a headache and this morning I woke up with it :headache: so after my last note, I went upstairs to read a bit then very quickly started to get dizzy (my inner ear condition must be flaring up) so I took a 1 1/2 hour nap and now am finally getting some food but I think I will just lay low for the day. I took some medicine for the dizzyness that works really well but usually takes a good part of a day for full effect. So much for getting to the gym today.

Greg is off to the store to price out porch materials. We have been talking for several years about this project and this year Greg started to hint that he would rather pay someone else to do it. We called 2 different contractors, the first one said it would be $11,000 if we used composite materials :scared1: Using treated wood would be $7-8 grand :sad2:. The porches are NOT large and Greg thinks the materials won't cost more than $2000 so I think he is leaning toward doing them himself unless the other contractor comes back with a much better estimate.

I'm with you on the TV thing LL. Sometimes Greg doesn't realize that his tastes are much larger than mine but I indulge him sometimes to make him happy but he doesn't see it that way.

Thanks for all the good vibes gals!!:goodvibes

we are having our front porch done (hopefully) next month:yay: It's pretty big...runs the length of the house (50 ft x 10ft...give or take) We are having the floor replaced and the posts replaced. We are then having railings and bullisters put in (it's currently open with no railings). We are also going to have them put in new steps with matching bannisters too. The grand total is 5.6K... We're using a contractor and all treated wood (my house is 100 yrs old...I think the composite/vinyl stuff would take away from the house rather than add to it) And our contrator is designing the rails/bannisters himself, since what I want is very old fashioned and not commercially available

I think it was a fair price:confused3 Even if i didn't...Tom's certainally not competant to BUILD ANYTHING:rotfl: so we're stuck with contractor prices:rolleyes:

Oh ...I'm going to do all the painting myself...so that's not included in the price either.... maybe that will help you, Katie, in figuring out what to expect from a contractor:confused3

I've got very little done...it's TOO hot:lmao: I'm enjoying being outside...but wheeling around mulch is too tiring in this heat:rotfl2: I may need to finish later tonight after I drop Allison at her friends house for a sleepover birthday party.

I forgot to tell you all that I had the most lovely dream last night. I was married to one of the Deadliest Catch Captains. :lovestruc

I have a serious problem. :lmao:

wow Paula, you got a WAY better price than we are getting! Greg came back from the store and informed me that he can get the composite materials for around $4,000. We're going to wait and see what the second contractor has to say but if it is a matter of saving 6-7 grand, Greg will be doing the work himself!! We're already looking at 9 grand for the heating/AC units :scared1:

The real estate agent thinks we'll get about 20 thousand more for the house than what we paid for it 9 years ago. I don't even want to THINK about how much we have invested, much more than 20 grand, that's for sure! :sad2:

We were very fortunate that I have an 'eye for potential' when we bought our house. It was structurally sound....but very neglected. It had been used by a single male, basically as a party house for sseveral years. The lawn was a mess...the interior was dirty and paint was horrible. BUT like I said...the house is structurally good...just ugly:lmao: After about 1K in paint and cleaning supplies...I increased the sale value of our house an easy 10-15K...seriously...it's crazy! I feel we got our house for a steal... 91K for 6 bedrooms and 3000 square feet. Even though we are 'outside the main towns' which brings down the sale price...we got it so low, cause no one wanted to deal with the clean-up disaster!!

We have invested some $$ into it so far (electrical upgrade and new furnace...now the porch) but even with all that together....the original 1K in paint, made more impact in sale value:rotfl2: than what we have spent.

next year...windows, carpet/laminate, and if I'm really lucky...new sidewalks and blacktop the driveway (Tom really wants rid of the gravel driveway...but we can't do it all at once...but his pet project is moving up the leaderboard:thumbsup2) If I get the chance...I'll post a few 'before and after" pics ...in many ways it is hard to believe it's even the same house:eek:
