No Turn On Red...what does this mean to you?

The far right lane is allowed to turn. The one with the sign is not. Pretty typical when there are 2 turn lanes.

That's what I thought and I was sitting patiently in the 2nd turning lane and a motorcycle cop rolled up beside me and said it was o.k. to turn.

After the installation of red-light cameras, we've had a lot fewer problems with red light running.

My favorites are those who decide to turn left out of the second lane from the left when there is clearly only one turn lane. You have to really watch for them so that you don't swing into them when they turn illegally next to you.

Way too many people are horrible drivers.

What I don't like is the "yield to pedestrian" signs in one area of a nearby town. I can totally understand yielding at a stop light, like the right turn on red. If my side of the road is stopped and people are walking across, I don't get to turn until they are out of the way. But. When they have those signs randomly placed on a street it's annoying. I know there is one street that has 3 of those signs in a 4 block section. I think it's ridiculous. Especially since it's not a super busy street. Pedestrians should be responsible to watch traffic and cross when there are no cars, cars shouldn't have to randomly stop because someone is slowly walking across, not even watching for traffic, just walking because the sign says they can.

There's only two times a pedestrian has the right of way: when they have it and when they don't.

At a corner when there is a stop light or sign then yes, yield to pedestrians unless you have the green light and the pedestrian sign says not to cross and definitely not at some random spot in the middle of a block. Ridiculous. There are crosswalks at every corner, pedestrians should use those and not expect to be yielded to everywhere else.

An unmarked crosswalk is a basically an intersection.
It isn't just a random place on along a street.

May be the law, but a pedestrian is an idiot if they just trust that cars will stop. Not worth being "right" if it means injury or death!

True because most motorist never obey the law. The police keep doing enforcement here and the DOT also posts signs letting people know the law. Still I don't think it has sunk in with most motorists that they have to stop for pedestrians at unmarked crosswalks.

She FINALLY got across the walkway, but then the husband had to leisurely make his way out. He stopped, halfway through to find his lighter and light his cigarette. I could've sworn I was on some hidden camera experiment. Traffic from the road on the side was backed up because of this. It could've caused an accident with someone there, but we have to yield to pedestrians no matter how ridiculous!

Yeah, I would have used my horn on this one. No reason not to walk across quickly. Well, if you have a physical limitation of course that's different. But to stop 3 times and yell at someone behind you? Or to stop to find a lighter and light a cigarette? Ridiculous and very inconsiderate of cars waiting for you to get your butt across.

We have stores where cars are supposed to stop for the pedestrians in the crosswalks going to and from the doors/parking lot and anytime I'm walking across I walk quickly so as not to hold the cars up any longer than necessary. But it is irritating when someone takes their own sweet time and seems oblivious to the cars waiting for them to move out of the way.

What exactly does No Turn On Red mean to you guys? To me, it means... No....Turn....On...Red. So why is it that everytime I come to a red light and I am in the right hand lane, 20 buttheads behind me are playing a symphony with their horns???? Am I wrong? I discussed this with coworkers and ya know what one said??? "What that means is, no turn on red if there is traffic coming. If there is no traffic, then you can turn." Duhhhhh, really? Then what is the sign for???? Then what exactly does Wait For Green mean? If you have to wait for green, doesn't that mean no turn on red??? Is it me? Do I have to go back to traffic school???

This is an easy one. I just don't signal until the light changes. This only works if the right lane is for going straight OR turning right, though.

Glad you stick to your guns and don't let those losers encourage you to break the law. The one who get the ticket will be you.

Yup. Definitely means NO TURN on red. But here is the question: What does a YELLOW light mean? Because here on L.I. it means speed up and get through the light before it turns red!

Apparently that is what yellow means to my dad who lives in Texas! One day my mom was quizzing me on driving rules when getting ready for my driving test. She asked what yellow means and before I could answer my 4 yr old sister piped up it means "hit the pedal harder!" Mom and I had a good laugh over that one!

Our signs say No Turn on Red really large and then very small underneath it says when pedestrians and bicycles are present. It took me entirely too long at one close to our house to realize I could turn right on red.
