No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try. - ToT 10 Miler & F&W - Updated 12/21

Wow, I am impressed that you even tried on your cruise. I usually can't get up for any sort of working out on vacations. Yes, I realized I just said that and am going to run the TOT on my upcoming trip, but that is a bit different, I think.

Looks like your pre-trip report has been going on for quite some time, so I am going to have to head back and see whats up. :thumbsup2

Welcome back from your cruise!!

Ahhh, they throw so many tasty foods and drinks at us on those things, don't they?! Great job to you two for getting in whatever activity you could. And OMG...I totally feel you on the Castaway Cay 5K. Just finishing that race is a victory in and of itself.

I also totally feel your pain on the post-cruise weight gain/bloat. :( It's like...you expect it to happen but that doesn't make it suck any less. Just know that it won't last forever...you'll get back into your normal routine and it'll go away. :)

Yay for cruise! And doing any kind of exercise while doing it! Doing the Castaway 5K is awesome! Congrats on completing it!:cool1:

And DO NOT get down on yourself. You were on vacation, its going to happen, and now its done time to move on and as everyones favorite little blue fish says Just keep swimming! As long as you don't go crazy and just keep going and just remind yourself that you aren't going to stop take heart in that! lol, not that you really need a pep talk from me, you are awesome with the work outs and tracking it all. You have dedication which is amazing! And I mean seriously you are taking on the ToT thats serious business!! :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

The work outs were totally battle of minds rather than body as I didn't want to waste precious vacation time on that. I think I get what you mean about running TOT during a trip - that is the main goal of Trip #2 outside of our Flying Fish Wine Dinner. I'll worry about the F&W Booths in 9 days when I get there!

Thanks for joining in! I'm shocked I've been so diligent at this for the past few months & it should be moved to the main board in a little of a week!

They do throw a ton of tasty foods & drinks at us! I knew going in that the Castaway Cay was going to be rough - I think most people on the boat would say the same thing. I think we lucked out that we actually got off the boat early enough so we were running before 9AM unlike what you unfortunately experienced.

Exactly on the weight gain/bloat. I knew I was going to gain something & at least it wasn't as bad as it could of have been. Water has been my friend the last few days along with much better lunches and dinners.

Thank You :)

I like the just keep swimming. This weekend is my longest run prior to the race so hopefully it goes well. Thank you for the pep talk! Sometimes you just have to hear it from others even though you know it yourself.

Tower of Terror 10 Miler Bib Numbers

RunDisney does things that don't really make sense to me. When I registered my husband & I for this race, I did not have proof of time for either of us as we had never ran a 10K or longer prior to this race. I put my husband's estimated time of completion around 1:45. I put my estimated time around 2:10 give or take a few minutes.

My Bib Number: 5760
His Bib Number: 10998

See my confusion? Especially with seeing people with actual proof of times getting numbers in the 9000 to 11000 range as well & I see that they are upset with that. I don't blame them for it either!

I'll take the head start though as I know it will keep me ahead of the balloon ladies as even my slowest days are right around that 16 minute mile mark - maybe now I'll actually be able to stop for some characters & my husband can just catch up to me within 3 to 4 miles in and we'll finish the race together.

What the heck?! That is bizarre!

Just when I think I sort of understand how runDisney assigns their bib numbers...I don't. So weird! But hey, congrats on the awesome bib number! :)

Those bib numbers are seriously weird. I think my BF and I got the most reasonable I've heard. Last year we finished in 2 hours 10 minutes and we both got low 6000s, so are in H.

It really is! It seems there were some screw ups but I'll take what I get. If they end up putting a later corral number on my bib at the expo despite my bib number, I'll deal as well.

Those do sound reasonable! At least both of you are starting together! I know I could drop back to be my husband but I rather have that extra time just in case I end up being slower than what I trained for or if characters end up taking longer than planned.

September Week 2 Run Update

Monday, September 8th
Plan: Rest
Actual: Rest

It was the last week of our bowling league @ work. I bowled horribly too! (61, 75 & 89!)

Tuesday, September 9th
Plan: 40 Minute Cross
Actual: 40 Minutes on the Bike - 10 Miles

Wednesday, September 10th
Plan: 50 Minute Run
Actual: 20 Minutes

20 Minute Run Up & Down My Street. I had a Wine Dinner to go to with 2 of my coworkers & I was being picked up at 5:45PM & I didn’t get home from work until 4:30PM so not enough time to go to the gym but figured something was better than nothing.

I also got my first shot today from the wellness doctor. I’m going to give it a chance for the 3 week period but I’m not entirely sure. After the shot, I could barely lift my right arm for about 3 hours at work. That doesn’t bode well when I’m having to sometimes lift items that are bulky & over 20 pounds - so much so I actually had to ask some of the guys to lift for me, which I never do.

Pictures from the Wine Dinner as being able to eat this fine food is one of the reasons I work out:

Thursday, September 11th
Plan: 55 Minute Run
Actual: 45 Minute Run

I was hungry & just wanted the run done with. I set the treadmill to the 5K program & had that as my goal to finish & I did!

Friday, September 12th
Plan: 40 Minute Cross
Actual: 30 Minutes Cross

I didn’t have much more time than to complete 30 minutes as I had a low country boil to get to at a friends house and I left work late.

Saturday, September 13th
Plan: 110 Minute Run
Actual: 25 Minute Lap Swim

My coworkers wanted to get together at 8:30AM for laps in the pool. We got through our 10 laps in about 25 minutes. I debated on getting my 110 Minute Run done outside later this evening starting at 6PM but there were thunder storms that killed that plan as it was already too late in the evening for me to head to the gym as they close at 7PM.

Sunday, September 14th
Plan: Rest Day
Actual: 110 Minute Run

I wasn’t going to skip my last longest run prior to the Tower of Terror.

OvokahT.png

It isn’t the farthest I’ve gone in training which was on August 10th @ 7.78 miles but the end of this workout today went a lot better than that last run. My husband ran beside me at the gym (yay for rain storms making us not run outside) and even commented that I looked less likely to kill someone than I did last time. I also felt like I had energy to go some more which is good & my body didn’t feel sick in any way. It still means I have to go at least 2.35 more miles for Tower of Terror but hopefully I can make it through that in 3 weeks. The ‘long’ runs for the next two weeks are a 90 minute & a 70 minute run so I won’t go a farther distance than I did today, unless I decide to switch to the Galloway Plan now & try to complete 11 miles next weekend during F&W Trip #1.

Running Amusements

Today on my facebook feed, the following Oatmeal comic showed up on my feed: (Warning, some of the links could be considered NSFW)

The Dos & Do Nots Of Running Your First Marathon
http://theoatmeal.com/comics/marathon_do

I then started reading some of the other comics they have:

The Terrible & Wonderful Reasons Why I Run Long Distances

The Blerch: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/running
The Feeding: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/running2
Selfishness & Krakens: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/running3
Vanity: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/running4
Agony: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/running5
The Void: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/running6

The Feeding totally is me! I mean, look at my F&W trips & special wine dinners (although I do have a Stoli Elit Vodka Dinner on October 16th)

It also works well for the lovely wine glass I saw on this link:
http://www.buzzfeed.com/jamesgrebey/cool-gadgets-that-every-runner-could-use#14av50r

I also ordered us a 24 pack of the Jelly Belly Watermelon Sport Beans for the races from Amazon.

We’re buying new shoes on Wednesday as the treads in my Brooks are dead. I want at least 2 weeks to break them in though before the run.

Trip #1 - Almost Here

4 Days until Trip #1!

I haven’t started packing nor do I know who is watching our dogs this weekend. I’m feeling really unprepared. I’ve been more focused on the run for Trip #2 than this trip. Hopefully I can get packing done by Tuesday as we have plans Wednesday Night and hopefully my husband’s coworker can come over and watch the dogs for us as I really don’t want to pay for the kennel again especially when they are going to be there again in 2 weeks. I rather pay him with beer and wine I can buy him from the Festival.

I’m going to cancel our Yachtsman ADR for Thursday night just in case there are issues driving up with traffic & we’ll just book once we get halfway through I-4 for what’s available. Rather not have additional stress that day! We won’t have our TiW yet so I’m debating if I want to go to like Chef de France instead on Thursday as they don’t take TiW anymore for dinner. We then could get dinner at Yachtsman on Friday & get our discount.

My run schedule also switched a bit from the original plan but that should just make all the eating work out better! Completing a 90 minute run prior to having the Parisian Breakfast will let me feel less guilty about enjoying all those carbs & cheese.

Very jealous ;) but have fun!!:goodvibes I was just on MDE playing around with FPs and was thrilled with the 12 days :dance3:

So far so good! Its almost race time for us! I'm super excited for that! Here's to hoping I don't eat too bad this weekend to ruin 2 weeks from now ;)

Decompression

Our day started at 5AM. I had to get to work a little early to make sure I completed some tasks if I had any hope of trying to get out prior to 4PM. By busting my butt all day, I was able to leave a little after 3:15PM but I ended up bringing my work laptop along on this trip so I can handle somethings Friday Morning that I know will be needed. Its actually really sad, for 2 people, we have brought 4 laptops on a 3 night trip! (My work, My Personal, Shaun's Normal Laptop & his Macbook Air that he is working on reformatting so I can retire my 2010 Macbook Pro & just take his Air as its only 6 months old & he barely uses it outside of watching videos) We were on the road by 3:40PM heading up I-75 towards Disney. I drove.

T4TWiD8.jpg

About 90 minutes in, I was tired as I did wake up super early & work a full day, yet somehow I was the one driving the 3 hours to Disney. Luckily, there is a rest stop between the I-275 & I-4 exits that we were able to stop at & stretch. We were greeted by a friend Squirrel that also was slightly suicidal as it went under my car while backing up & I had to be careful to not hurt it (sorority mascot & all) I also picked up a Rockstar Sparkling Cherry Citrus so I could wake up along the drive. As I never really drink caffeine anymore, this helped a lot!

By 6:45PM, we were passing under these beauties!

l9ZP1WJ.jpg

Please excuse the bugs & now the chipped windshield. Thank you rocks on the highway!

We checked into the Beach Club Villas & were given a non-connecting studio on the 4th floor which makes me happy! I love having a non-connecting studio as they are quieter than the ones that have that connecting door. We brought our stuff inside & headed immediately back out to walk towards EPCOT. A short 5 minute walk later, we were inside the gates & headed to my husband's favorite place - L'Artisan des Glaces

6sKG4Ar.jpg

Mint Chocolate Chip for Him! Chocolate Macaron for me!

We enjoyed our ice cream as it was the first food we had eaten since lunch & it was already 7:15PM. As our dining reservations weren't until 8:30PM, we walked right towards the other countries in World Showcase & stopped at the Japan Food & Wine Booth for a small snack for me. The Sake Sunrise was amazing! The handroll was more tuna than salmon but had just enough kick to make me happy!

After my snack, we shopped through Japan, Italy & Germany while I played with my camera until it was time to turn back around & head towards France again.

We checked in about 30 minutes early to our dining reservation to Chefs de France and were seated within 5 minutes to a 4 top in the glassed-in area of the restaurant.

We began our meal with a bottle of Chardonnay as it was officially vacation & this is a food & wine trip afterall.

xJd3aOL.jpg

We have always gotten the same main meals here. I always start with the French Onion Soup & then have the Onion & Bacon Flatbread as my main meal. These are always splendid. My husband always gets the Roasted Half Chicken with Potatoes & Broccoli & it makes him very happy. That chicken was dead by the time he was done with it.

This time; however, we also got dessert. He had the ice cream dessert option while I had a grand marnier coffee spectacular that fit the illuminations going off in the background.

ExjgJuA.jpg

Our meal was awesome like we expected. We left $139 poorer but happily fed. It was now raining so rushed back to the Beach Club. We did a little shopping at the Marketplace where we bought a Marvel Vinylmation that still hasn't been opened along with some water for the room. When we got back to the room, I officially unpacked everything & got settled, dealt with my work emails & now played on my personal computer.

Pre-Festival Wanderings

I had set the alarm for 6:30AM as I had a plan! I was going to complete a 50 minute run since I was lazy the last two days in my training plan. This was also going to be my first one in my new shoes I bought on Wednesday: They were Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14s exactly like my last pair although a new color as it as my only option for my shoe size (9.5)

2TpcEVx.jpg

Have you ever tried running shoe shopping in a dress?

So I warmed up by walking from the Villas to the Fitness Center the Yacht & Beach Club share.

3lS9RJX.jpg

I think I’m the only person that actually misses this restaurant.

As I had warmed up from that walk, I started faster than I usually do on a treadmill. About 20 minutes in, I started getting some pain on my left side IT band :/ I’m hoping it was because I’m breaking in the new shoes & not for some other reason. I called it quits on the treadmill once I hit 2 miles as I didn’t want to risk actual injury. I was faster than I have been in a while at least!

CaUWDuY.png

I then did some leg workouts with the equipment at the gym to see if I could work out those muscles. I headed back to the room to shower up and get ready by the time my husband got out of bed at 8AM.

UUw8SDV.jpg

We headed towards International Gateway shortly after 8:30AM as I needed to visit Guest Relations to pick up my new Tables in Wonderland card as my last one had expired on August 31st. At least this one is good until October 31st, 2015! Last night, we had decided to just skip going to Hollywood Studios & only do EPCOT this trip for parks since we focused on Hollywood Studios so much at the end of May.

Until then, we waited until slightly before 9AM when we were let into EPCOT. We were going to ride Figment first as our first FP+ was for 9:10AM but Figment was still sleeping.

WNTRYR9.jpg

So we walked through Innovations & then looked in the Art of Disney store until 9:10.

Yxm5JUu.jpg

Important Advice!

At 9:10AM, we headed over to Spaceship Earth & pretty much wasted a FP+ but aren’t most EPCOT Tier 2 ones wastes anyway?

GoQFu4E.jpg

iNkC8Hl.jpg

When then looked around the stores inside the Food & Wine Festival Center & got some free samples of chocolate along with a $1 off ice cream coupon. We didn’t buy anything yet as we didn’t want to have to carry it for the rest of the morning/early afternoon.

6nCGO5W.jpg

Then it was off Mission Space!

J1q2xt0.jpg

It was then time for our next FP+ at Test Track where we decided to switch up our typical design goal. We normally go after a ‘power’ heavy vehicle - this time we went for the most efficient. In the design center, it stated we got a 99 in efficiency but it sure was an ugly car; however, once on the test track, it was a 100! It was the top efficient vehicle for the day as well with an overall score of 202! Not bad for an ugly little vehicle!

My husband wanted to stop by the World of Coke prior to the booth openings at 11AM so we got a quick drink & then decided to wait by the booth we were starting with...

y0slwWx.jpg

Booths Vs Dis_Yoda & DH - Round 1

I had my eyes on the Desserts & Champagne booth for our first stop! You see, I haven’t had a glass of Dom Perignon in forever because usually you can only get it by the bottle when out & trying to convince my husband of a bottle that expensive while out usually is a no go. My husband went with a more conservative option for his first glass - the Nectar Imperial which is something we had last year at the Moet & Chandon dinner @ Flying Fish.

dIjIHSY.jpg

We toasted & headed towards more food options. Our next booth stop was Mexico

Shrimp Taco & Sangria

VVzEqri.jpg

I’m totally tasting my way around the world

I love that shrimp taco every year! My husband stole some of it which is fine as there would be more food ahead. The Sangria was ok - drank a bit thicker than normal for sangria.

We stopped at Farm Fresh for my husband for the Pepper Bacon Hash. He really enjoyed it, stating it was good drinking food.

1wsaZZt.jpg

Pepper Bacon Hash

We walked ahead of Norway so we could eat at China and eat lots of their options. We got the Beijing Roasted Duck in a Steamed Bun with Hoisin Sauce, Mongolian Beef in a Steamed Bun with Chili Mayo, Chicken Potstickers and TSINGTAO Beer. The buns were for me whereas the beer & potstickers were my husband. I shall save getting the Black Pepper shrimp for another day! The Mongolian Beef Steamed Bun was the winner of the two buns but everything was great here!

GmbmAYo.jpg

Buns next to a bun

We headed backwards towards Norway to use our last FP+ for the day - Maelstrom.

oSNciLs.jpg

I ended up recording the entire voyage so I have it forever as it was one of my favorite rides & am sad its turning to Frozen. When we return to EPCOT tomorrow, I shall just enjoy it without the camera out! After visiting the trolls & polar bears, we stopped at South Korea to pick up a Roasted Pork Lettuce Wrap w/ Kimchi Slaw.

RLGYEXQ.jpg

Roasted Pork Lettuce Wrap w/ Kimchi Slaw

It was then off to the Brewer’s Collection where we ran into some issues with our picks as they were out of the Pilsner already and when they were pouring one of our beers, the keg didn’t want to let them have the beer. I told her it was close enough to filled for us as we knew we would be drinking more if we wanted anyway & losing an ounce of beer wasn’t a big deal. The lesser filled beer did turn out to be our favorite of the two though!

usx7mhN.jpg

BraufactuM Palor & BraufactuM Colonia

We visited the trains to see there were getting ready for their own F&W Festival before heading to Italy where I had the Ravioli while my husband had the Cannoli. The ravioli was a huge portion that I only ate about half as there were at least two more food items I wanted to try before leaving today & wanted to make sure I didn’t burst at the seams. My husband loved his cannoli.

4w4Zbew.jpg

Rcy78d2.jpg

Ravioli alla Caprese & Cannoli al Cioccolata

We stopped at Hops & Barley My husband wanted the Beef Slider, to which he claimed was also great drinking food. I wanted the SnapShot Beer which was the best of any of the beers I tried today! It reminded me of what I like to drink out at home.

lXoIpKp.jpg

Florida Grass-Fed Beef Slider w/ Pimento Cheese & New Belgium Brewing Company, Snapshot

We stopped at Japan for the Teriyaki Gyoza Bun - Steamed Bun filled with chicken, vegetables & sweet teriyaki. This was great as well & huge! The portion sizes this year seem to be better for your money.

ZmdBfly.jpg

Teriyaki Gyoza Bun

Our last booth stop was for me in France While I was in line for my sea salt caramel creme brulee, my husband went to his favorite place in France - the ice cream shoppe & got a scoop of chocolate. We were both happy with our dessert choices!

y7Bv0rm.jpg

10 out of the 36 booths visited in 1 day!

As we were near the International Gateway & both unable to eat anything more without reaching that uncomfortable state, we headed back to the Beach Club where we relaxed, played on our computers some, and then took an hour long nap before waking up around 2:30PM.

September Week 3 Run Update

Monday, September 15th
Plan: Rest
Actual: 41 Minute “Walk”

I had a goal! I was going to keep to my updated plan for the race. My body did not want to run after doing 110 minutes the day before so I compromised with it & agreed to mainly walk. In 41 minutes I got 2.18 miles done.

Tuesday, September 16th
Plan: 50 Minute Run
Actual: 40 Minute Cross Training

I got 9.24 miles done in 42 minutes so a bit slower than normal. I had a friend stop by while I was on the bike at the gym & was chatting with her so I wasn’t paying much attention to my speed for a bit (& I also got invited to her Disney wedding in December!)

Wednesday, September 17th
Plan: 40 Minute Cross Training
Actual: Nothing

While I didn’t work out, I did 2 training related things.

1) Buy New Shoes as the tread in my newer pair is dead. Shaun was going to buy new shoes as well but they didn’t have his size. Because of this, we were able to get his size on hold at the Fit2Run store at Downtown Disney so we rearranged some of our Trip #1 plans so we can head to DTD & get him new shoes.
2TpcEVx.jpg

2) Get my shots from the wellness doctor at work. Still not decided if this is actually helping or not but I’m going to finish the treatment & see what happens.

Thursday, September 18th
Plan: 50 Minute Run
Actual: Rest

There was no time in the day!

Friday, September 19th
Plan: 50 Minute Run
Actual: 27 Minute Run

As I had warmed up from that walk, I started faster than I usually do on a treadmill. About 20 minutes in, I started getting some pain on my left side IT band :/ I’m hoping it was because I’m breaking in the new shoes & not for some other reason. I called it quits on the treadmill once I hit 2 miles as I didn’t want to risk actual injury. I was faster than I have been in a while at least!

CaUWDuY.png

We also picked up the new shoes for Shaun at the Fit2Run at Downtown Disney. He got a pair of Asic Gel Kayano 21.

yV9k1hx.jpg

Saturday, September 20th
Plan: 40 Minute Cross Training
Actual: 60 Minute Walk/Run

3.41 miles in 60 minutes, so I was really slow. I didn’t get pain today at least!

Sunday, September 21st
Plan: 90 Minute Run
Actual: 30 Minute Cross Training

When we got back from Disney, we headed to the gym around 11:30AM. We only got around 30 minutes of exercise in before we were done & did our grocery shopping. I got 8 miles done on the bike! We also wanted to deal with getting unpacked and ready for work tomorrow.

Avoiding The Rain

We woke up from our nap & needed to wake up. Shaun’s idea to wake up was going to the gym.

TPUlbVT.jpg

While he actually did a full workout, I was lazy and slowly walked a mile on the treadmill as I had run 2 miles that morning really early. I left him at the gym after I finished my mile in 20 minutes as I looked at what the radar was going to be tonight & knew that we would need the poncho that I keep in the backseat of my car along with just picking up another poncho from my husband from Beach Club Marketplace. If there was going to going anywhere this night, we would need to avoid getting wet.

TR7tttQ.png

We got cleaned up & dressed. I decided to wear a dress as I had only brought dresses and jeans and with the amount of rain, I didn’t want to walk around with wet ankles all night. I also left my purse & camera behind and just had my wallet & phone. We took the bus to Downtown Disney as we needed to visit Fit2Run to get Shaun’s new shoes for Tower of Terror as they were the only store with his size in a non-horrible color unless he went with female shoes. He got the Asic Gel Kayano 21 in Royal Blue. We window shopped around some of the other stores but didn’t buy anything.

yV9k1hx.jpg

We had decided on doing the AMC Fork & Dine for dinner & a movie but we still had about an hour to kill before we could be seated, so we killed our time at the outdoor (covered) bar at Splitsville enjoying the band and having some drinks.

Nice & relaxed, we walked through the rain to the AMC Fork & Dine. We had seats for the 6:30PM showing of Maze Runner.

I started with one of their special drinks that came with a free glass.

Prior to the movie, we got our appetizers - Breadstick Sampler for my husband & Fried Cheese for me.

wWE5Nlx.jpg

Xg4pfoP.jpg

For our main entrees, I had the smoked brisket quesadilla, while my husband had the double decker club sandwich. We skipped on dessert. The dinner only cost $63 for our food & my drink which is very reasonable for as much food as we got! The movie was enjoyable, much better than the book which I was unable to finish reading as I found it uncaptivating when I first tried to read it.

When the movie was over, we headed back through the mess that is Pleasure Island and got onto the buses at the Marketplace where luckily there was already one for the Beach Club there about to leave! Talk about perfect timing! We were seated next to this very drunk man that provided us some entertainment on the way back talking about his fun at the F&W today, “I double fisted the beer in Mexico & then I got turned around and went to Canada & got a STEAK DINNER! and then I went back for more rounds in mexico then I got 2 STEAK DINNERS! in Canada” My husband and I laughed as we know the samples of the beef tenderloin at the booth is so small that I don’t see how anyone would call that a steak dinner. He probably need something with a bit more substance to soak up everything ;)

Once back at the resort, we watched some tv & went to bed.

Looking like a great visit. All those F&W booths; I would be about to bust! but some of that food really looks appetizing. I for one would like to eat the ravioli right this minute. I'm glad I'm staying on Disney property for some of my vacation so I can have a few of those drinks during my trip!

The visit to Splitsville really looks like a good time too! What is a White Gummy Bear? Are there other colors too?

And finally, the AMC Fork & Dine; what a great idea!
