No tags, no receipt, would you attempt an exchange?

I don't think I have ever bought a single item of clothing from JC Penney's in my adult life. On a whim, I stopped in there about 4 weeks ago. I was able to find adjustable waist blue jeans in a long length for my skinny, tall 14 y/o and they were buy 1 get 1 50% off. I bought four pairs and they fit great!

I pull the laundry out of the dryer this morning and the front button was gone. I found it in the bottom of the dryer and there is a big hole where it pulled off the pants. This isn't a normal button that I can sew on and with the hole, I definitely won't be able to fix it.

I don't have the receipt or the tags and I paid cash. Ugh! They are the Arizona Jeans which I think is their own brand but I could be wrong. I will be near JC P's tomorrow. Am I going to waste my time and end up frustrated trying to exchange them or are they easy to deal with?

Arizona is their own brand so that won't be an issue. Did you pay cash or what? If you used a credit/debit card you can show the charge on there but my guess is that they will exchange the jeans for you.

I loved Arizona jeans for DS16-they are cut longer and skinnier. Just an FYI, Aero and American Eagle now have 26" waists in their jeans. DS16 needs a 28x34, which are impossible to find. He gets the 30x34's but we often have to order them online.

If you're going to be close by, I'd give it a shot.. The most they can say is no - and some stores are really good about returns.. Do you at least have the bag?

I have made many exchanges/returns at JCP and usually they are pretty easy to deal with, but I have had receipts. Do you still have the tags on the other jeans you bought?

If I was in the area, I would stop by just in case. However I would probably go in thinking that they won't be replaced and if you do get them exchanged it will be a happy surprise.

Just explain to the customer service desk that you bought 4 pairs of them and love them and are disappointed in the craftsmanship. Those buttons should not come out like that, in the dryer.

GOOD LUCK!!

Since it's a store brand, and a quality issue, I'd go ahead and give it a try. I definitely wouldn't try it if it were a brand sold elsewhere (like Levis) or if you simply changed your mind about them.

I paid cash and I brought my own reusable bag. I can assume those two choices may come back to bite me!

I definitely will go into it thinking it won't happen and be pleasantly surprised if it does.

American Eagle's 26" waist pants are too short for my son. I have found a couple places with the adjustable waists or the smaller sizes in the waist but they are always so short.

I wasn't sure what the inseam was on those-I just looked online to see if they have extended lengths and they do not. DS16 really needs to move up to the 36" inseam but he would have to go up to the 32" waist and even with a belt that won't work. These long legged, skinny, skinny boys are hard to buy for. I have noticed since the boys aren't wearing their pants down around their knees as much that the offerings are better though.

I bet I know who moved the receipt and the tags. ;)

I'd give it a shot, but I have to say, I'm not good at that. I have several things laying around that I should return, and I need to look for the receipts in a huge pile, try to return them without the receipt, or chalk it up to experience (and find a better way to keep track of receipts) and donate it all. Anyone need a tiara or two? (Don't ask.)

I had the same problem, but it was with a St Johns Bay shirt..I brought it back, told them the problem . I knew exactly when I bought it. They looked it up in their computer. And they had no problem offering me either a refund, or another shirt (which is what I chose). Our JCP is VERY GOOD with returns, and since you bought a brand they carry, I don't think you will have a problem. If you do, simply ask for the mens dept manager. I had to do that a couple of weeks ago, when they had a bunch of shirts on clearance. Some were marked one price, some another, and all were the same shirts. They weren't coming up right in the register, so I asked for a manager, she came over and told the salesguy to ring them all up for the lowest price! Plus they were another 15% off, and I had a $10 gift card. I ended up paying like $2.25 for shirts that were originally $30!
Good luck!

OmG HOW many things have I returned to JCP!!

It was like the only store my sister and Mom went to for Christmas gifts and they always bought my son the wrong color or the wrong size. I hardly ever had the receipt or the tag. They're really good with exchanges and returns. :thumbsup2

I'd try it. Usually they are pretty easy going, and if it's obviously their brand, even more in your favor that they would exchange them.

Definitely worth a try. They may only offer you a store credit.

Arizona pants for boys by the way.....HORRIBLE. I've had buttons come off of the cargo pants and the jeans shrink badly after a few washes.

We get Levis at Penney. They cost a little more but well worth it.

I'd try it if you live close and it wouldn't be too much of a hassle. You never know!

Levi's run a good inch or two shorter though. That is the problem we ran into with those. If we got them to fit in the waist, they were 3" too short. Arizona jeans were our only option--and we tried them all. Macy's used to have a store brand called Badge and they were the BEST jeans, ran long and skinny but they discontinued those. They were very sturdy too and I could get them on sale for about $15.

I thought everyone in MN was just gilded in gold?

UPDATE:
Thanks again, everyone! It worked and wasn't too time consuming. I grabbed the right size off the shelf and took them up to the register with me. First she wanted to give me a store credit and said I could just turn around and buy the jeans. Since the store credit was the lowest sale price and the jeans were now a lot more, I wasn't interested. It didn't make sense to me that she was willing to give me a store credit but not willing to do an even exchange. After a bit of prodding, she relented. Hopefully that was just a fluke with that pair of jeans and the rest hold up.

Glad it worked for you. I had a feeling they wouldn't give you a problem.

I worked at JCP in college. One day a lady came in with a Towncraft (a JCP brand) shirt that she said did not hold up well. She had no receipt. The Towncraft label in the shirt was a label that had not been used for years. Yes, years. At least 5 +. The shirt was old. You could look at it and tell it was old. They still exchanged it for a new shirt.

I tried to return a shirt once and ran into a real witch. The sleeve had pulled off when I washed it before even wearing it. It WAS a clearance item but I thought they would at least stand behind their quality.

Anyway, she questioned my story and refused to refund my money. Basically accused me of trying to scam them. Thing is, she's standing there with my receipt in her hand showing I had spent over $300! So I'm trying to scam her for a ten dollar shirt?

I'm glad to hear it worked out for you!

I'm headed to Dillard's later. I bought a pair of black flats at a store out of town. I wore them Sunday & they scraped up my heels. I of course can't find the receipt (grrr) so I'm going to try & return them, if I can. If nothing else, store credit would be fine! I just want a pair of shoes that doesn't kill my feet, darn it!! :)
